I’m in love with the name [name]Magnolia[/name]. I love everything about it. The sound, the fact that it’s sweet and sassy at the same time, the way it flows as you say it, the possible nicknames, the ‘southern feel’ of the name. My only issue, dh is really not a fan. Our first daughter’s name is [name]Carolina[/name]. I love that name for the very same reasons [name]Magnolia[/name] appeals to me. I also like, but cannot use due to relatives already using the name or clashing with our last name, the names [name]Clementine[/name], Jessamine and [name]Georgia[/name]. I know I’m just hitting a mental block, but I am unable to come up with alternatives that ‘feel’ the same.
I’d really appreciate some help in shaking me out of my name fog. What names would you suggest that have a southern feel, flow off of the tounge, have at least one nickname possibility and are sweet yet sassy at the same time.
Thanks Berries!
what about [name]Virginia[/name]?
I just think of [name]Caddie[/name] from The Sound and the Fury . She’s not the greatest namesake though.
[name]Savannah[/name] (as in [name]Georgia[/name])
[name]Susannah[/name]
Anything with [name]Belle[/name] at the end.
[name]Magnolia[/name] is a pretty name, but if DH is totally against it then you need some fresh ideas. [name]How[/name] about [name]Cecilia[/name]?

[name]Virginia[/name] does fit into that mold but I knew a [name]Virginia[/name] growing up who wasn’t a very nice. I think that association is too strong for me to consider using the name. It’s funny how you have strong associations with names that you don’t even realize you hold until you stop and really think about it.

I do love [name]Savannah[/name]! It’s sweet and sassy, I love the flow of it and has some great nickname possibilities. I am going to add that to the list I run by dh! Thanks! The other two names are just not my style.
Actually, dh has a cousin with that name who is much younger than the rest of the cousins and is actually younger than some of their second cousins. Anyway, due to the age difference, she’s more like our children’s cousin than dh’s so it’d be pretty confusing at [name]Christmas[/name], Thanksgiving, etc to have another one in the family.

[name]Annabelle[/name] Maybe? I’m going to throw that on the list and see how dh reacts.
[name]Amabel[/name] nms
[name]Maribelle[/name] nms
[name]Belle[/name] I love this name. However, it’s maybe too popular for my tastes.
[name]Eliza[/name] I simply love this name. We almost used it last time. Since our daughter was born, another cousin was born named [name]Elizabeth[/name]. She sometimes goes by [name]Liza[/name]. So, we are out of luck with using such a beautiful name now.
[name]Delilah[/name] I like this a lot and it’s dh’s grandma’s name. The only hold up I have with it is the whole [name]Delilah[/name] and [name]Sampson[/name] thing.
[name]Dahlia[/name] pretty but it reminds me of an old murder case.
[name]Mayella[/name] I’ve never heard this one before.
[name]Savannah[/name] I love this name and it’s now on the list to go to dh, once again, my only drawback is how popular it currently seems to be
[name]Vera[/name] another name ruined by an unpleasent association to someone in the past
[name]Azalea[/name] Huh, I’m not sure if I like it or not. I am going to run it by dh and see how he reacts.
[name]Daisy[/name] A sweet name, but one we’ve already used for a pet.
[name]Poppy[/name] I’d love to use this as a nickname but I’d want something more ‘formal’ on the birth certificate
[name]Zinnia[/name] Same as [name]Azalea[/name], just not sure how I feel about it.
[name]Marietta[/name]nms
[name]Roselina[/name] We call [name]Carolina[/name] “[name]Lina[/name]” a lot of the time so anything with [name]Lina[/name] in it might be too matchy matchy.
[name]Susannah[/name]nms
[name]Georgiana[/name]to close to [name]Georgia[/name] (who is a cousin to our baby-to-be)
[name]Louisa[/name]nms
[name]Posey[/name]nms
[name]Virginia[/name]I once knew a [name]Virginia[/name] that was a mean, so all these years later, I still associate that name with a naughty little girl
[name]Talullah[/name] good idea, I will put this on the list
[name]Georgina[/name]once again, too close to [name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Maisie[/name]sweet but already used by a close friend
[name]Dinah[/name] I tried this one out on dh when we had our first daughter and it was a no go.
[name]Jemima[/name] I like the sound of this one a lot. However, the whole racial overtone thing makes me think it’s best left off of the list. Maybe I’m being over sensitive?

[name]Carolina[/name] and
[name]Adele[/name] Makes me think of the singer.
[name]Alessandra[/name] [name]One[/name] of her big brothers already has [name]Alexander[/name] as a middle name. So, it feels too similar to me.
[name]Amelia[/name] We know a lot of Amelias. For that reason, it’s a no go.
[name]Annabel[/name]I do like the name. I added it to my list to run by dh.
[name]Camille[/name] Nms
[name]Dorothea[/name] We already have a niece named [name]Dorothy[/name], so too close.
[name]Evangeline[/name] I love this name. We are thinking of using [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name] or [name]Angeline[/name] as a middle name.
[name]Felicia[/name] Nms
[name]Genevieve[/name] Too close to another family name.
[name]Giselle[/name] Nms
[name]Isadora[/name] nms
[name]Juliet[/name] I love this one. For some strange reason, dh doesn’t.
[name]Lenore[/name] nms
[name]Lucinda[/name] I am torn, one day I really like [name]Lucinda[/name], the next day, not so much.
[name]Lucretia[/name] nms
[name]Magdalena[/name] Now this name, I [name]LOVE[/name] IT! So pretty! Still has spunk. Not overly common. I love it. Thanks for suggesting it! I’ll be running this one by dh for sure!
[name]Millicent[/name] Dh already x-ed this one off of the list.
[name]Natalia[/name] Pretty
[name]Octavia[/name] Nms
[name]Rosalie[/name] Pretty
[name]Rosalind[/name] nms
[name]Rosamond[/name] nms
[name]Scarlett[/name] I like this one. It’s going on the list.
[name]Thalia[/name] [name]One[/name] of my college roommates used this name for a baby she gave up for adoption. I think it’d hurt her if I used the name even all of these many years later.
[name]Theodora[/name] Pretty, however, one of our sons’ middle names is [name]Theodore[/name]. Once again, maybe too close to be useable.
[name]Victoria[/name] My niece’s middle name.
[name]Violette[/name] This one has real possibility. I love it actually! On the top of the list!
[name]Viveca[/name] nms
Thanks for all of the input! My responses are included in the quote above.

[name]Opal[/name], [name]Maple[/name], [name]Acacia[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name], [name]Francesca[/name], [name]Vivianne[/name] (has a more southern twang to it than [name]Vivian[/name]), [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Gloria[/name], [name]Santana[/name]
[name]Gloria[/name] is in the running. I also [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]. However, it’s one of the top three names we are considering for a middle name (along with [name]Emmeline[/name] and [name]Angeline[/name]). [name]Acacia[/name] is adorable, I’m going to add that to the list to run by dh. Thanks!
I guess we like that sort of name too much. [name]Daisy[/name] and [name]Sadie[/name] are (or were) names of our dogs. [name]Eliza[/name] is one of my favorite names but we have a niece named [name]Elizabeth[/name] who goes by [name]Liza[/name] sometimes. Sadly, [name]Elizabeth[/name] is out in all of it’s forms for us. [name]Susannah[/name] doesn’t click with me for some reason, even though I know it should. It’s perfectly in line with everything I love about [name]Carolina[/name] and [name]Magnolia[/name] but yet it doesn’t make my list. [name]Hazel[/name] is pretty and so is [name]Pearl[/name]. I will throw those on the list to see how dh reacts to them. Thanks for the suggestions!
[name]Magnolia[/name] brings to mind [name]Marigold[/name] (nm [name]Goldie[/name])

[name]Abilene[/name] For some reason, I really like this one. I didn’t like it until I said it out loud, but now, I really like the sound of it.
[name]Hilary[/name] nms
[name]Fiona[/name] I like this name lots. It’s the name of one of the characters in the book, The [name]Thorn[/name] Birds. Our first daughter, [name]Carolina[/name] has the middle name [name]Justine[/name] which was inspired by another character in the book.
[name]Naomi[/name] nms
[name]Lorelei[/name] Adding to the list for dh.
[name]Sybilla[/name]/[name]Sybella[/name] Am I terrible if this reminds me of syphillis?
[name]Florence[/name]/[name]Flora[/name] Pretty, sweet but nms
[name]Mabel[/name] nms
[name]Margot[/name]/[name]Margo[/name] I do like this but dh crossed it off of our list last time.
[name]Arabella[/name] [name]One[/name] of my favorite names that’s been suggested. However, do you think it’s ‘too popular’ right now?
[name]Veronica[/name] nms
[name]Miranda[/name] nms but pretty
[name]Phoebe[/name] nms
[name]Lydia[/name] I like this one. It’s simple yet beautiful.
[name]Sylvie[/name]/[name]Sylvia[/name] We almost ended up naming [name]Carolina[/name], [name]Sylvia[/name]. She literally was ‘baby girl’ for days while we debated. This is at the top of our list. However, I was hoping to come up with a few ‘new’ additions to the list as well.
[name]Claudie[/name]/[name]Claudia[/name] I like this one. If our first had been a girl, he may have ended up with this name. However, for some reason, it’s not as appealing to now. I have no idea why.
[name]Adelaide[/name] I hadn’t thought of this one and really like it! On the list it goes!
[name]Johanna[/name] nms
[name]Verity[/name] sweet, maybe ‘too sweet’
[name]Felicity[/name] same as [name]Verity[/name]
[name]Blythe[/name] pretty but no
[name]Bethany[/name] nms
[name]Clarissa[/name] nms
[name]Larissa[/name] nms
[name]Clara[/name] I do like this one!
[name]Imogen[/name] On the list this one goes!
[name]Leonie[/name] Hmmm, I am going to ponder this one.
[name]Leona[/name] I like [name]Leonie[/name] better.
[name]Romilly[/name] nms
[name]Lucille[/name] nms
[name]Cordelia[/name] nms, I think? It might grow on me though.
[name]Tessa[/name] nms
[name]Penelope[/name] nms
[name]Gwendolen[/name] already used by a family member
[name]Eleanor[/name]/[name]Elinor[/name] I really like this name, however, dh does not.
[name]Norah[/name] Won’t work with our last name.
[name]Hermione[/name] I think this name is awesome. [name]Do[/name] you think it’s overcome being soley thought of as the girl from [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] yet?
[name]Audrey[/name] nms
[name]Freya[/name] pretty but nms
[name]Helena[/name] I love this one, but we have a niece named [name]Elena[/name] and it may be too similar.
[name]Sabrina[/name] cute
[name]Sabine[/name]/[name]Sabina[/name] ?
[name]Cosima[/name] nms
[name]Edwina[/name] nms
[name]Philippa[/name] cute, is it too connected to [name]Pippa[/name] Middleton or could it be used without that association among the baby’s generation?
[name]Harriet[/name] nms
[name]Gemma[/name] I like it but wouldn’t actually use it, I don’t think
[name]Bryony[/name] pretty
[name]Evelyn[/name] nms
[name]Nella[/name] won’t work with our last name
[name]Inessa[/name] nms (at all)
[name]Ambrosia[/name] for some reason, I find this one adorable. It never crossed my mind before but I like it. I’m adding it to the list.
[name]India[/name] I absolutely love this name. I [name]LOVE[/name] the nickname [name]Indie[/name]. I love the flow of the name. It is on the list for sure!
[name]Juniper[/name] I like this name a lot. I’m just not sure that it fits with the names of our other kids ([name]Jason[/name], [name]Griffin[/name], [name]Jackson[/name], [name]Landon[/name] and [name]Carolina[/name])
