Names that aren't said how they're spelt?

Looking for names that aren’t said how you might initially read them.
Examples;
[name_m]Lincoln[/name_m]
[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]
[name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]

[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u]

[name_f]Kalliope[/name_f]/[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]

There’s others I thought of but they’ve slipped my mind right now.

Please give me some more.

[name_f]TIA[/name_f]

A lot of Greek names aren’t…
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f]
[name_f]Antigone[/name_f]
[name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]
[name_f]Eurydice[/name_f] etc.

Yes, they were similar to the ones I must have been thinking of.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] those names though, so pretty. Very strong and outgoing, not sure we could pull it off but still fantastic names.

Thank you.

Most Irish names are definitely not said how they are spelt!
For example:

[name_f]Saoirse[/name_f]
[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f]
Tadgh
[name_f]Rois[/name_f]ín
[name_f]Niamh[/name_f]
[name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f]
[name_f]Mair[/name_f]éad
[name_f]Grainne[/name_f]

They are lovely names though!

[name_m]AH[/name_m] yes! They are beautiful too!

Why didn’t I even think of that?

Thank you.

And Sean and Seamus. And Spanish names starting with a J aren’t immediately obvious to the English speaker, e.g. Jesus, Jose, Juan.

Thomas–I realize everyone knows how to pronounce this, but a silent h is a little unusual. Some places say Anthony as Antony. Same with Charles–I know the French ending -le as -el is common, so not really in this, but it isn’t phonetically spelled either.

Geoffrey.
Wilhelmina, because either you say it the correct way with the w as a v, or you say it Willa-mina, neither of which go with standard English pronunciation based on spelling. And Wilhelm. Michaela, because I think your immediate impression would be Michael-uh. A lot of feminized male names are not just the male name with an ending and have different stresses, actually, now that I think about it: Geraldine, Ernestine, Josephine

Leonard.

When I first came to nameberry, I would say [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] like “muh-[name_m]LOCH[/name_m]-ee” in my head for the longest time.

[name_m]Cassius[/name_m]
[name_u]Shiloh[/name_u]
[name_m]Esau[/name_m]
[name_u]Yeats[/name_u]
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u]
[name_m]Phelan[/name_m]
[name_m]Leif[/name_m]
[name_u]Schuyler[/name_u]
[name_u]Michael[/name_u]
[name_m]Vaughn[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] (American pronunciation)
[name_m]Palmer[/name_m]

[name_f]Boheme[/name_f]
[name_f]Soleil[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]

  • [name_u]Roux[/name_u] ([name_m]French[/name_m])
