What names can you only picture on a child/teen, but just can’t imagine it on an adult or elder?
My list:
[name]Lindsey[/name]/[name]Lindsay[/name]/etc.- I knew plenty of these growing up and I will always picture them as children or adolescents.
[name]Princess[/name] - This is on the top 1000 right now. Seems like something you would call a toddler as a pet name.
[name]Maddison[/name] - I have a hard enough time picturing this on a girl.
[name]Aidan[/name] - I still see this as being a child’s name.
[name]Lilou[/name], [name]Eulalie[/name], [name]Ottilie[/name], Ombeline, [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Poppy[/name]: they’re all too overly cute for adults but I do like Ombeline more than the others.
All the princessy, fussy, ellaianna craziness happening for girls right now. Also, [name]Piper[/name] is the cutest, but not necessarily adult-friendly.
Also [name]Lulu[/name] and [name]Zuzu[/name] and [name]LaLa[/name] and [name]Gigi[/name]. These girls might wanna go to college one day or be lawyers or politicians or anything they can dream! They need some solidity in their names. For nicknames, sure! But I wouldn’t vote [name]Lulu[/name] for president. [name]Just[/name] sayin’, y’all.
The [name]Aiden[/name] trend, so [name]Kayden[/name], [name]Brayden[/name], etc.
[name]Jaylin[/name]
[name]Aubrey[/name] on a girl, or a boy…mostly on a girl.
[name]Gigi[/name], [name]Lulu[/name], [name]Lola[/name], [name]Mimi[/name], etc.
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Dylan[/name], which I love the name, but it doesn’t seem very adult imo.
[name]Cody[/name]. Same as [name]Dylan[/name].
[name]Kayley[/name] (and various other spellings)
[name]Kayla[/name]
[name]Kiley[/name]/[name]Kylie[/name]
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Tiffany[/name]
[name]Brittany[/name]/[name]Britney[/name] (and various other spellings)
[name]Nevaeh[/name]/[name]Neveah[/name]
Most of the formerly masculine but now unisex or even solidly feminine names ([name]Peyton[/name], [name]Taylor[/name], [name]Sidney[/name]/[name]Sydney[/name], [name]Avery[/name], [name]Riley[/name], etc.)
I am a [name]Lindsay[/name] all grown up and I think I wear it well I definitely agree though on [name]Princess[/name] (just makes me shudder) and [name]Aidan[/name].
For me I would have to add [name]Campbell[/name], I cannot see this on an adult.
For me, its nicknames as given names. [name]Maggie[/name], [name]Gracie[/name], [name]Nate[/name], [name]Ben[/name], [name]Tommy[/name], [name]Jimmy[/name], [name]Katie[/name], [name]Libby[/name], [name]Evie[/name], [name]Alfie[/name], [name]Archie[/name], [name]Theo[/name], etc., etc… there are so many of them and more and more people are considering them without fuller names! I just don’t understand that trend at all. There are only three names (at least, that I can think of off-hand) that I would actually consider using that are diminutives/nicknames: [name]Jack[/name] (because I utterly refuse to contribute to the [name]John[/name] frenzy in my family tree! Besides, if my brother wants to have a 4th–he’s a 3rd–then he can have [name]John[/name]/[name]Johnny[/name] and I can have [name]Jack[/name]. ), [name]Kate[/name] (but only as a MN… because [name]Arianne[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] is way to long. [name]Just[/name] [name]Kate[/name] honors more family pretty much equally, too), and [name]Tess[/name] (because, for some reason, it just stands on its own for me. I can see a [name]Tess[/name] as a businesswoman just as equally as I can see a [name]Grace[/name]. [name]Tess[/name] and [name]Gracie[/name] just aren’t on the same level to me. [name]Tessie[/name] would be another story, though…).
Other random names:
[name]Jasper[/name] (I can see this on an old man, but not on a baby/kid/teen. Does that count?)
[name]Lacey[/name] (I can’t imagine a Grandma [name]Lacey[/name]. I wish I could, because I love the name, but I just can’t.)
[name]Zoe[/name]/[name]Chloe[/name] (I don’t even know why, because these names go way back. But I can’t picture them past a seven-year-old)
I have to agree with some of the previous posts- [name]Kaylee[/name] etc, [name]Nevaeh[/name], also nn names like [name]Maddy[/name], [name]Emmy[/name], [name]Gracie[/name]. [name]Brittany[/name], [name]Kayla[/name], [name]Kylie[/name], [name]Cody[/name]. Any misspelled name such as [name]Karsyn[/name]. [name]Kiki[/name], [name]Mimi[/name], [name]Didi[/name], [name]Bibi[/name]. Some nn names are better than others.
For some of the previous posts- I’m a [name]Lyndsey[/name], I have to agree that it doesn’t seem like an older name, although there is [name]Lindsay[/name] [name]Wagner[/name] and [name]Lindsay[/name] Crouse to consider, who are older.
[name]Aidan[/name]- I think of this is a man’s name because of [name]Aidan[/name] [name]Quinn[/name].
[name]Campbell[/name]- I know a woman named [name]Campbell[/name] who is 54, she carries it well and it seems very professional (she’s in training to be a counselor).
[name]Chloe[/name]- this one seems to age fairly well for me, but not [name]Zoe[/name]
[name]Piper[/name]- I actually see that as an adult name because of the adult [name]Piper[/name] character on Charmed
[name]Liberty[/name]
[name]Honey[/name]
[name]Blossom[/name]
[name]Cadence[/name]
[name]River[/name]
[name]Bentley[/name]
[name]Mercedes[/name]
BMW (joke. Kind of, I expect there is one out there)
[name]Daisy[/name]
[name]Mason[/name]
[name]Landon[/name]
[name]Cameron[/name]
[name]Brooklyn[/name]
[name]Trinity[/name]
[name]MacKenzie[/name] and other [name]Mac[/name]/Mc/Mak names
[name]Bailey[/name]
[name]Genesis[/name]
[name]Diego[/name]
[name]London[/name], [name]Paris[/name] etc
Last names as first names on girls.
I agree, I know quite a few Lindsays (various spellings), [name]Kayla[/name]'s, [name]Cameron[/name]'s and [name]Jimmy[/name]'s and I never thought their names were childish.
I do think a lot of nicknames don’t age well, but that’s why I’m a huge fan of giving the child a longer name and using the nickname when they’re young and then letting them change it when they see fit.
[name]Amber[/name], [name]Melissa[/name], [name]Lauren[/name], [name]Laura[/name], [name]Amy[/name]? Really? I know so many adults of various ages with these names, they all sound pretty adult to me…especially [name]Laura[/name] and [name]Melissa[/name], I don’t know any very young Lauras or Melissas
It’s not so much that I know children with the names, I know young adults. None of whom are older than 23, so with the ones you quoted back to me…I can only imagine them being fairly young. But I suppose it depends on where you live, as to the age range attached to specific names.
I’m a [name]Melissa[/name], and I’m [name]WAY[/name] older than 23! Along with [name]Amy[/name], [name]Melissa[/name] was a hip name in the late 60’s where I grew up in [name]Texas[/name]. Come to think of it, I’m named after a great-grandmother whose father was a Confederate cavalryman, so it’s a pretty old name. But anyway, this question of names that don’t age well made me laugh because I was trying to imagine a little kid saying, “Grandma [name]Brandi[/name]? Can I have a cookie?” LOL!
