Names that go with our German last name

We are not yet TTC, but I have been enjoying reading all of these threads and have been making a few lists of my own recently. I love dreaming of great name combos! We have a very [name]German[/name] sounding last name, Fernbach ([name]Bach[/name] like the composer). My husband is not very adventurous with names and tends to like more Biblical or traditional names. I had never really thought about Biblical names before, so I started looking and I am recently crushing on [name]Levi[/name]. We don’t need to stay with the Biblical names, but that is just what he gravitates towards. If we have a girl, I would love to pass on my middle name, [name]Gray[/name], as it has been passed on to the girls in my family for several generations (as a middle name, not a first). I tend to stray away from the more trendy names, but am agreeable to most! Here are a few that I enjoy just to give you an idea of what sounds good to me (in no particular order): [name]Levi[/name], [name]Eleanore[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Finley[/name], [name]Theo[/name]/[name]Theodore[/name], [name]Nora[/name], [name]Lyle[/name]… I also adore the French language and would love some French suggestions, but I don’t want them to sound too out of place with our [name]German[/name] last name!

I am intrigued as to what combos you all come up with!

Thank you in advance =)

I really like the idea of [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Gray[/name] Fernbach. You could even go with the [name]German[/name] spelling of [name]Mirjam[/name] (pronounced same as [name]Miriam[/name]), though that could be problematic in an English-speaking country. Other ideas:

[name]Rebecca[/name] [name]Gray[/name] Fernbach
[name]Sarah[/name] [name]Gray[/name] Fernbach
[name]Anna[/name] [name]Gray[/name] Fernbach
[name]Lena[/name] [name]Gray[/name] Fernbach ([name]Lena[/name] pronounced [name]LAY[/name]-nuh)
[name]Sandra[/name] [name]Gray[/name] Fernbach
[name]Alessia[/name] [name]Gray[/name] Fernbach

I know a [name]German[/name] woman named [name]Felixa[/name], and [name]Felixa[/name] Fernbach sounds pretty cool if you like alliteration.

[name]Michael[/name] Fernbach
[name]Timothy[/name] Fernbach
[name]Benjamin[/name] Fernbach
[name]Lukas[/name] Fernbach

I think [name]Levi[/name], [name]Eloise[/name] and [name]Theo[/name] all sound great with your last name! A few other ideas (both biblical and not):

[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Sampson[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Peter[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name]

[name]Susannah[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Camilla[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Gray[/name]

Good [name]Luck[/name]!

I love that both of you have named my brothers! ([name]Michael[/name] and [name]Peter[/name]). My name is [name]Jennifer[/name], so I fear that [name]Genevieve[/name] may be too similar. My [name]MIL[/name] is [name]Elisa[/name], so my DH feels [name]Eliza[/name] is too similar, although I love it!

I enjoy the suggestions of:
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Lena[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name] [name]Gray[/name]

[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Lucas[/name]/[name]Lukas[/name] (DH knocked that one down, but we have time for it to grow on him…)
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Sampson[/name] (DH likes [name]Samuel[/name], I like [name]Sampson[/name] much, much more)

I’ll bring these up the next time we discuss names and see how they go over =)

Thanks for the input!!! I love hearing what names other people put with our last (I feel like it’s somewhat difficult to pair with such a strong last name…my maiden name was nothing like this, so when I thought about names in the past it didn’t seem as difficult!)

I have a [name]German[/name] LN too, [name]Hugo[/name] is a good [name]German[/name] option.

[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Gray[/name] Fernbach (French and sort of biblical)
[name]Amelie[/name] [name]Gray[/name] Fernbach
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Gray[/name] Fernbach
[name]Noelle[/name] [name]Gray[/name] Fernbach (also sort of french and sort of biblical)
[name]Juliet[/name] [name]Gray[/name]

[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] Fernbach
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] Fernbach
[name]Severite[/name] [name]Elijah[/name] Fernbach
[name]David[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name] Fernbach
[name]Benedict[/name] [name]Abel[/name] Fernbach

I love the sound of [name]Eleanore[/name] [name]Gray[/name], and [name]Norah[/name] [name]Gray[/name] is a stinkin’ cute nickname! Other possiblities may be:

[name]Amelie[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Vivian[/name] [name]Gray[/name]/[name]Vivienne[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Gray[/name]

For boys I love [name]Theo[/name] for your last name! I’ve also included:

[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Mason[/name]/[name]Maison[/name]
[name]Dashiell[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name], [name]Samuel[/name], or [name]Benjamin[/name] for the bible side

Best of luck!

Loving the following:
[name]Eleanore[/name] [name]Gray[/name] (I was just talking to DH about using the nn [name]Nora/name for this last night!)
[name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Gray[/name]

[name]Love[/name] [name]Madeline[/name], but a friend of mine named her adorable girl this, so I can’t steal it =)

[name]Theo[/name]/dore [name]Sebastian[/name] or [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]
DH likes [name]Samuel[/name]

Thanks everyone!!! This is so helpful!

My favorite of your girl’s names is definitely [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Gray[/name], it has a great meaning as well as sound. Of your boy’s, [name]Theo[/name]/dore and [name]Oliver[/name] are my favorites, but the ‘ver’ in [name]Oliver[/name] brings out the ‘fer’ in your last name, which is off-putting for me. So my vote goes to [name]Theo[/name]!
