I’m looking for names that mean dawn. Other than [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]. I know about [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], and that’s a possibility. My father died last year and his name was [name_m]Donald[/name_m], and everyone called him [name_m]Don[/name_m].

I’m looking for a word that means [name_f]Dawn[/name_f], which sounds like [name_m]Don[/name_m], to be used as a middle name for a girl. I’m pregnant and don’t know yet if it’s a girl or a boy so I guess I’m getting ahead of myself! I just miss my dad so much.

I’m sorry for your loss. My husband’s father passed away last year as well, also named [name_m]Donald[/name_m]. We’re considering our options for honoring him, too!

The only one I know of outside of the PP’s suggestions is [name_f]Alba[/name_f], which I love! [name_f]Alba[/name_f], [name_f]Zora[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] are all great ‘dawn’ names.

[name_m]Donya[/name_m] is a female form of [name_m]Donald[/name_m]; and [name_f]Ailani[/name_f] | [name_f]Maelle[/name_f] | [name_f]Maelys[/name_f] all mean the same thing, ‘chief’.

Also, I realize this is a girls name forum…but some great international variations of [name_m]Donald[/name_m] for boys: [name_m]Bohdan[/name_m] | [name_m]Donal[/name_m] | [name_m]Donovan[/name_m]

These are great ideas; another approach could be to use [name_f]Donna[/name_f], [name_f]Donatella[/name_f], [name_f]Madonna[/name_f], [name_f]Donita[/name_f], [name_u]Lindon[/name_u], [name_f]Sidonie[/name_f], or even [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] … Is that last suggestion silly?

One way to honor your father is to choose a name that contains “don.” Names that mean dawn:

I found Keiba which means sunrise. You could use Sunrise as a name but beware… that is also the name of a famous porn star! I know it doesn’t mean the same thing but I like the idea of Donnelle or [name_u]Donnelly[/name_u]. Although [name_u]Donnelly[/name_u] is a surname I think it is soft enough for a girls middle name.

Oh… what about [name_f]Lani[/name_f] or [name_f]Leilani[/name_f]?

[name_u]Dagny[/name_u] is good one which others have suggested!

The only other I can think of off the top of my head is Aamu [[name_m]Ah[/name_m]-moo] , which in Finnish means “morning” or “dawn.” But while I think it’s beautiful, I can’t imagine it being very popular here…

[name_f]Danica[/name_f] would be my favourite for a similar starting sound, initial matching, and “morning star” meaning. The first syllable is not a hard “[name_m]Dan[/name_m] as in [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]” but more of a “DAH-” which sounds sort of like [name_m]Don[/name_m]. As much as [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] does anyway. It seems like a great mesh to me.

In terms of just dawn meaning I think [name_f]Roxana[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] are super pretty I just think it’d be a bit of a “secret” only you get. IYKWIM.
