When I search for names with the meaning of faith only a very few pop up. I was wondering if anyone knows how this word/name translates into other languages. I would especially be interested in Hebrew, [name_m]French[/name_m], & Greek names. However, any translation of this name would be helpful. Thanks so much!
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_f]Vera[/name_f], which means “faith” in Russian.
[name_f]Imani[/name_f] means faith in Swahili, and it is rather pretty.
The [name_m]French[/name_m] word for faith is “foi”, but that’s not a name at all. I don’t know much about Greek names, but there are some Greek speakers on here, so hopefully they can help.
I want to like [name_f]Vera[/name_f], it so classic but I want something a bit longer. Otherwise we may just use [name_f]Faith[/name_f].
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] means fidelity or faithfulness…
it’s one of the reasons we chose it:)
From nameberry:
: ancient Greeks presented an ivy wreath to newlyweds as a symbol of fidelity. And in the language of flowers, [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] signifies faithfulness.
[name_f]Fidelity[/name_f]; [name_f]Leala[/name_f]/Lealia ([name_m]French[/name_m]); [name_f]Iris[/name_f] (the flower of [name_f]France[/name_f], symbolizes faith); [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (symbolizes faith).
[name_f]Minette[/name_f]—meaning faithful defender
[name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f]—meaning faith
[name_u]Nakia[/name_u]—meaning pure, faithful
The Hebrew word for faith is Emuna, and it is used as a feminine given name.
[name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f]/[name_m]Emmanuel[/name_m] doesn’t mean faith, it means “God is with us.” A relevant idea, but not a translation.
[name_f]Amina[/name_f], [name_f]Imani[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Minette[/name_f], Fedella, [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Leola[/name_f], [name_f]Petra[/name_f] (technically means rock, but the rock is a symbol of faith, due to its steadfastness).
Oh I love how you referenced the language of flowers. That opens it up a bit. Thank you!
spring13 do you know how Emuna is pronounced? Thanks for the clarification too.

As a name, Eh-MOO-nah. In [name_m]Israel[/name_m] you might get Eh-moo-NAH.
It symbolizes fidelity but it actually means “bitter”.
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] is my favorite name that means “faith”.
I’m curious where you found the meaning of "bitter"I haven’t come across that anywhere for [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]…everything I’ve read mentioned fidelity or [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] plant name, the Greek history etc…
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is derived from the Old English word ifig.
Here is where I got my information on the meaning: http://www.docstoc.com/docs/129643173/The-name-Ivy-comes-from-the-Old-English-Ifig-meaning-bitter
Interesting…I’ve only been able to find that ifig means [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or “climber” from several sources or “unknown original meaning” I’d be interested in knowing where the author of that article got the information.
