Names that mean "wanderer"

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! My fiance’s name is [name_m]Scott[/name_m] and he’d love if I used his name as a middle, but its just not my favorite name to pick from. [name_m]Scott[/name_m] means “from [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]” but in Scottish it can also mean “wanderer”. Well, I searched for boy names that mean “wanderer” and found virtually nothing. [name_f]Do[/name_f] any of you berries know of any secret “wanderer” meanings in names?

Thanks a ton!!

I didn’t know [name_m]Scott[/name_m] had that meaning too.

This is what Behind The Name gave me for ‘wanderer’:

[name_m]Doran[/name_m] (from Ó Deoradháin meaning “descendent of Deoradhán”. Deoradhán means ‘exile’ or ‘wanderer’ in Gaelic)
[name_m]Stian[/name_m] (modern form of Stígandr, means ‘wanderer’ in Old Norse)

It lists [name_m]Scott[/name_m]'s meaning as ‘Gaelic speaker’ and [name_m]Omar[/name_m] is ‘speaker’ in Hebrew. It might be a stretch but you could use a Gaelic name with [name_m]Omar[/name_m] as a middle name to construct a whole name with the same meaning as [name_m]Scott[/name_m] maybe?

There’s a cool diminutive of [name_m]Francesco[/name_m] - Francescotto - which has ‘[name_m]Scott[/name_m]’ right in there (I see [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]'s already on your list though, so maybe not). Or there are a few surnames/place names with the ‘scot’ sound in: [name_m]Prescott[/name_m], Ascot, Wescott etc.

[name_f]Wendall[/name_f]: Wendell - Name Meaning, What does Wendell mean?
[name_u]Perry[/name_u]: Perry - Name Meaning, What does Perry mean?

Personally not big on [name_f]Wendall[/name_f], but [name_u]Perry[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] sounds good.
What if it means traveler?

[name_u]Noah[/name_u] means wandering
[name_m]Cain[/name_m] spent his life as a wanderer in exile
[name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] or [name_u]Perry[/name_u] means traveler or pilgrim (I think Pilgrim is an awesome middle)
Rover (but I wonder if people still remember this as the goto 1950s dog name like spot–though I think it sounds really cool on a person)
[name_u]Wendell[/name_u] means to travel, to proceed
[name_m]Christopher[/name_m] is the patron saint of travelers
Cree Indians were great warriors and travelers
Faramond or Faramund means traveler’s protection
[name_m]Nestor[/name_m] means traveler/voyager
[name_m]Stian[/name_m] means wanderer
[name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_m]Brendan[/name_m] is also known as [name_m]Brendan[/name_m] the Voyager
Farold means mighty voyager or powerful traveler
Viator means wayfarer/traveler in Latin

[name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] means “pilgrim,” which seems maybe a little bit related.

You might consider the variant [name_m]Prescott[/name_m]. Or [name_u]Scout[/name_u], which is similar in both sound and meaning.

Here are a few names that came up on a “wanderer” meaning search:

Thanks everyone! That’s about all I came up with on my search too but you all found a couple more  I actually quite like Rover! But not sure if its usable.

Might have to honor his name in a different way… [name_m]Just[/name_m] not sure how!

Ok, 2nd try: [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] is also called [name_m]Albion[/name_m] so there’s that name. [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] is from words that mean mist…so [name_m]Haze[/name_m] or [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] or [name_m]Hazen[/name_m]? [name_u]Gale[/name_u] for Gaelic/Gaels or [name_m]Walsh[/name_m] for Welsh. Brume is a poetic way of saying mist or fog. It’s the middle? I think Rover is doable in the middle. There’s [name_m]Ranger[/name_m], Rambler, Roamer, [name_m]Gad[/name_m], Gallivanter.

This might not be your taste, but the Berber name Aheyyâd means artist/wanderer

Going a bit of a different route, what about a word name? [name_f]Journey[/name_f], [name_m]Quest[/name_m], Adventure…? Probably better as a middle name idea.
