I don’t have the same surname as my dad ([name_m]Leonard[/name_m]) by my own choice, but I’ve been toying with the idea of naming a future child a name beginning with [name_m]Leo[/name_m] to honour that side of my family. However, I don’t like any of the [name_m]Leo[/name_m] girls names I’ve found! Can I get some some suggestions please?
The only ones I can think of are [name_f]Leona[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonie[/name_f], other than really stuffy ones line [name_f]Leonarda[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonor[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonicia[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonice[/name_f]
[name_f]Leola[/name_f]
[name_f]Leora[/name_f]
[name_f]Leocadia[/name_f]
[name_f]Leola[/name_f]
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Leora[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonore[/name_f]
[name_f]Leota[/name_f]
[name_f]Leopoldine[/name_f]
The are all I can think of/find.
What about names that contain ‘[name_m]Leo[/name_m]’
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleora[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleonore[/name_f]
Or the similar sounding ‘[name_m]Lio[/name_m]’
[name_f]Eliora[/name_f]
[name_f]Liliosa[/name_f]
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f] - maybe just by looks.
[name_f]Meliora[/name_f]
What about names that mean ‘lion’ or ‘brave’?
[name_f]Aria[/name_f] “air; lioness”
[name_f]Leya[/name_f] “the law; lion”
[name_u]Ariel[/name_u] “lion of God”
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] “brave as a bear”
[name_f]Valencia[/name_f] “brave, strong”
I don’t think [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] has been mentioned yet! She’s really sweet ^^
My favourites are [name_f]Leonor[/name_f], [name_f]Leonie[/name_f], [name_f]Leocadia[/name_f] and [name_f]Leopoldine[/name_f]. I also like the idea of [name_f]Leora[/name_f] (though I prefer the [name_f]Liora[/name_f] spelling) and [name_f]Cleo[/name_f].
Others:
Leonina
[name_f]Leandra[/name_f] (also means ‘lion’)
Lioba
Cléophée / Cleofe / Cleofa
There’s also the old Anglo-[name_m]Saxon[/name_m] name element Leof-, which means ‘dear/beloved’.
Names containing this element for girls are Leofwynn and Leofrun along with Leofeva.
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] is my favorite [name_m]Leo[/name_m]- name for girls, I think it’s utterly beautiful.
I love [name_f]Leona[/name_f]. You could drop the o and go with [name_f]Lenore[/name_f].
Thank you all! I really like [name_f]Leonie[/name_f], [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], [name_f]Leola[/name_f], [name_f]Leora[/name_f] and [name_f]Leopoldine[/name_f].
