I’m looking for help coming up with name options for boys and girls that are pronouncable in [name_f]English[/name_f], [name_f]French[/name_f] and Arabic. 12 weeks to go. [name_f]Baby[/name_f] has an 11 year old half sister named [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. We are a Canadian (Anglo) + Lebanese couple living in francophone Switzerland.
Some names we both like but nothing so far jumps out as “the one”:
Boys:
[name_m]Idriss[/name_m] (Amelia has a new cousin via her mum with this name) - is independently Welsh (like my name) and Arabic
[name_m]Kian[/name_m] / [name_m]Kiyan[/name_m] (Gaelic and Arabic)
[name_m]Killian[/name_m]
[name_f]Issa[/name_f] (not sure I can get over the religious connection – is [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] in Arabic)
Girls:
Avene
[name_f]Neve[/name_f]
Unisex:
[name_f]Solstice[/name_f] - we both love this but not sure we can bring ourselves to be this hippy
Names one of us loves that don’t work:
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] (vulgar in Arabic)
[name_f]Iona[/name_f] (my very favorite, partner doesn’t like it)
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] (partner)
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] (partner)
[name_m]Solaris[/name_m] (partner)
[name_m]Oisin[/name_m] (partner)
[name_f]Oceanne[/name_f] (partner)
[name_f]Clea[/name_f] (I don’t like it)
[name_m]Laith[/name_m] (both like it, impossible to say in French)
No top 100s. Doesn’t need to match [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] but no similar names (eg Amira).
Honestly, the first thing that came to my head was [name_f]Asha[/name_f], because of the [name_f]Disney[/name_f] movie! I think it’s so short it should be somewhat easy to pronounce in most languages, not sure about [name_f]French[/name_f], but I speak a Latinx language and it’s pretty easy (could be Arab influence on Portuguese though). [name_f]Yara[/name_f]? Overall short names are probably the safest bet! [name_f]Laila[/name_f] / [name_f]Layla[/name_f] maybe?
I second:
[name_m]Amir[/name_m]
[name_f]Inaya[/name_f]
[name_f]Mariam[/name_f]
[name_f]Calla[/name_f]
[name_f]Hana[/name_f]
[name_f]Samira[/name_f]
[name_f]Farah[/name_f]
