Hello,
My husband (American) and I live in Southern California, but I’m originally from Germany, with all my family still living over there. We are expecting our first baby in May/June. Our names have to work in both languages (which is why my husband’s favorite name Conan is definitely out for me). Here are some of the names on our list:
We have pretty much narrowed down our boys list, but would still be open for suggestions:
Benno
Carlson
Jasper
Theo
Bruno
Girls:
Rosa (We both love the name, it’s also my mom’s middle name and my grandma’s first name, but in SoCal it sounds very Mexican. So most likely it would be the middle name.)
Antonia (we both like the nn Toni, but my husband actually doesn’t like the full name all that much - any other names with the nn Toni?)
Mattea (a lot of Americans tell me the name is a bit too foreign?)
Thea
Elsa
Stella
Names that I like but were ruled out by my husband:
Henry
Mathilda
Josephine
Valentina
Lennard
Elisabet
Thanks for any suggestions, comments, help narrowing down the list.
My favorite out of your boy names is Jasper
Out of your girl names, I like Stella. You could even use Rose as a middle name if it works in both languages
My favorite from your girls list is [name]Mattea[/name]. I live in New [name]York[/name] and I don’t think that there’s anything foreign sounding about it, but then again I come from an Italian family and in an area where there are a lot of Italian-Americans, so I could be a bit biased. Not really crazy about any of the boy names (just not my style), but I think that [name]Jasper[/name] would work the best in both [name]America[/name] and Germany.
And just as a suggestion, I think that [name]Hanna[/name] is a really beautiful name to consider, as it would work well in both the U.S. and Germany. Good luck!
I like [name]Jasper[/name], [name]Theo[/name], [name]Elsa[/name], [name]Thea[/name] and [name]Antonia[/name] from your list. Here are some other suggestions.
The only ones that are a bit “foriegn” are:
[name]Benno[/name]
[name]Bruno[/name]
[name]Mattea[/name]
[name]Lennard[/name]
[name]Mathilda[/name]
Everything else is totally fine. And [name]America[/name]'s so multi-culture, foreign shouldn’t even be an issue.
The ones I really love on your list are:
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Carlson[/name]
[name]Antonia[/name]
[name]Elsa[/name]
[name]Valentina[/name]
[name]Elisabet[/name]
[name]Rosa[/name] is nice, but the [name]Rose[/name] is so overdone as is, and you don’t like the Mexican thing.
What about [name]Rosalie[/name]? It’s very Twilight though. I think it’s a lovely name. There’s also [name]Rosamund[/name], Rosamarie, [name]Rosalind[/name], [name]Rosalyn[/name].
Idalie I think is [name]German[/name].
[name]Antoinette[/name] is a name with the nn [name]Toni[/name], but it’s French.
[name]Antoinella[/name] is another.
One name that I really love is [name]Liesel[/name].
