I love the song [name_m]King[/name_m] and Lionheart by Of Monsters and Men, and thought it would make a fun theme to base a list around. So far, all I have listed are [name_m]Ouen[/name_m] (the [name_m]French[/name_m] variation of [name_m]Eoin[/name_m]/[name_u]Owen[/name_u]) and [name_m]Pike[/name_m] (an unusual, yet familiar sounding, seafarer.)
For the kings, names you’d find in a fantasy novel are ideal.
For lions (not real lions, obviously, a term that refers to loyal knights/warriors,) names with fierce meanings or just something you’d imagine on a knight would be perfect.
Well, in my fantasy novel the main character was [name_m]Giles[/name_m] --which means aegis. Then one of the great heroes in American history was [name_m]Giles[/name_m] [name_u]Corey[/name_u], who refused to give innocent names to the witchhunters of [name_u]Salem[/name_u] and so was the only American ever pressed to death.
[name_m]Lion[/name_m] itself was a common name – one of the founders of the town in Connecticut where I grew up was Sir [name_m]Lion[/name_m] [name_u]Gardiner[/name_u].
And then there’s [name_m]Ettore[/name_m], the Italian version of [name_m]Hector[/name_m]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] that name.
I like a LOT of these suggestions. @jackal I didn’t realize it was so popular! It comes on my [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] stations a lot, so I’ve grown fond. lol [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know where I can find the meanings of some of those names that aren’t on Nameberry?
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] or any variation of this such as [name_u]Alexius[/name_u], [name_m]Xander[/name_m]
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m], it means “bright”
[name_m]Luther[/name_m] - [name_m]German[/name_m], means “army people”
[name_u]Paxton[/name_u] - translates to “peace town” Latin I think
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]…also means bright
[name_m]Edward[/name_m], means “wealthy guardian” or [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] which is a wealthy friend
Yeah, they are very big in Iceland. People are very excited that they are making it abroad, just like all Icelandic stuff that manages to become known outside of Iceland, before the inevitable backlash if they become an Icelandic stereotype (Björk, Sigur Rós)!
I think they are all on behindthename.com, or at least the modern versions are. Nameberry meanings seem a bit dodgy to me sometimes, behindthename is way better! Some of the meanings are not particularly fierce or to do with lions or kings or bravery, but I went on the sound/vibe more than etymology

[name_m]Gethin[/name_m] - dark, swarthy
Hróar - famous spear

[name_m]Bard[/name_m] - battle peace (could also just be the word bard, minstrel - but I was thinking of the modern version of Bárður)
