Are there any? If there are, I know the people who’ll know are the Berries.
I adore [name]Oona[/name], but it seems too ‘normal’ next to my other favourites … Not common, at least not outside [name]Ireland[/name], but still easily recognisable, and wouldn’t make you look twice.
And that’s all I can think of… Sorry…
I love [name]Oona[/name] as well, but I fear using her since most of the other names I love are really long. [name]Persephone[/name] and [name]Wellington[/name] long. [name]Una[/name] would feel left out.
Searching some more I only find [name]Urbana[/name] with the right U/Oo sound and an N and it’s a stretch.
What are your other favorites? Because I think [name]Oona[/name] is very unusual and would certainly make me look twice. [name]Don[/name]'t take that the wrong way, I love [name]Oona[/name], I think it’s so beautiful! I’ve only encountered one [name]Oona[/name] and everyone always talked about how unusual her name was.
I looked some more!:
Aluna - [name]African[/name], ‘approach’
[name]Aruna[/name] - Sanskrit, ‘red, rust-coloured, passionate’
Elunia - Hebrew/Greek/English, ‘my God is a vow’, apparently a form of [name]Elizabeth[/name]…
Emuna - Hebrew, ‘faithful’ *MY FAVOURITE! it’s Awesome!
[name]Eluned[/name] - Welsh, ‘idol, image’
[name]Fortuna[/name] - Latin, ‘luck’
[name]Junia[/name] - Latin, ‘adolescent’ (YOO-nee-ah)
Karuna - Sanskrit, ‘compassion’
[name]Luna[/name] - Latin, ‘moon’
Muna - Arabic/Swahili, ‘hope’
Munya - Arabic, ‘wish’
Sundara - [name]Indian[/name], ‘beautiful’
Sunniva - English/Norse, ‘sun gift’
They all have such wonderful meaning! It’s not often you can find this long and diverse list of names and origins and have them ALL mean something pleasant!!
Emuna is my favourite though. It’s nothing but gorgeousness!
[name]Fortuna[/name] and [name]Junia[/name] are great as well, I love those! ^^
Thank you all so much! I wasn’t sure any could be found, so I was so pleased to log on and see all of your responses.
@jlm - I have a soft spot for the [name]Oona[/name] spelling, but the sound is the most important thing. I really like the initials idea … I shall try to think of some combinations.
@sunnyshine - actually, [name]Laguna[/name] has a really nice sound. It reminds me of a holiday resort a little, though …
@Dearest - from the couple of names you mentioned, we have similar taste Thank you so much for finding all of those names! I like quite a few of them, especially [name]Undine[/name], Elunia, Emuna and Karuna, and they do have lovely meanings. Perhaps they will grow on me. I love [name]Luna[/name] - it is still shorter than other names I like, but it is that bit more unusual.
@Lyndsayjenness - I’m glad you think it is nice, and that it is quite unusual. While I’m still not sure, mainly I am concerned about the length, as most other girls’ names I like are three or four syllables. I am still not totally confident with sharing my favourites on here, both because I worry about more negative reactions and for privacy. And I am still quite far off having children. One of my favourites, to give you an idea, is [name]Persephone[/name] (I told you we have similar taste, Dearest!). I am big on nicknames, and so if I had an [name]Oona[/name] her full name (I wouldn’t nn an [name]Oona[/name]) would be only as long as the others’ nicknames ([name]Persephone[/name] would be nicknamed [name]Effie[/name]).
[name]Al[/name] I could think of was [name]Luna[/name] to get [name]Una[/name], though [name]Luna[/name] is not that unique. What about Aloona (uh-loo-nuh)? I’ll admit it’s made up, but it gets you where you want! In fact, you can put almost any prefix on [name]Oona[/name]!
