Names to go with Sofia

[name_m]Hi[/name_m],

I have already made a post regarding our baby girls name. I absolutely love the name [name_f]Mila[/name_f] however our niece is [name_f]Myla[/name_f] and they will have a chose relationship. Myla’s parents have given us to go ahead with [name_f]Mila[/name_f], I’m just struggling with the similarity. I’m trying to find an alternative.
We originally liked the name [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] as a middle name however our families opinions have kind of put us off.
[name_f]My[/name_f] partner and I got engaged a few weeks ago and he proposed in [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] at a chapel called [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]. We adore this as her middle name, we just can’t find a first name to match. Our last name is [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]. We talk about this daily!
I LOVE [name_f]Mia[/name_f], and think [name_f]Myla[/name_f] and [name_f]Mia[/name_f] go well, but [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m] is a bit of a rhyme.

Other names we like but unsure/can’t use:
[name_f]Amalie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m] (initials ASS…)
[name_f]Marlie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m] (we just don’t love it)
[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m] (again a rhyme and [name_f]Myla[/name_f] and Mila)
[name_f]Marla[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m] (too much of the ‘a’ sound?)

I need to find a name ending in ‘ie’ I think. [name_m]Just[/name_m] typical every name we love ends in an ‘a’.

Names we can’t use:
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Millie[/name_f]
[name_f]Emelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Maya[/name_f]
[name_f]Sofia[/name_f] as a first name (close friend with a daughter called Sophia)
[name_f]Mollie[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]

We prefer short and sweet, and my partner isn’t keen on the ‘old fashioned’ names, for example I love [name_f]Margot[/name_f]!
He likes [name_f]Eleia[/name_f] / [name_f]Alaia[/name_f] but too similar to [name_f]Sofia[/name_f].
Please help:joy::heart:

Congratulations on your engagement!

[name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m] sounds charming to me - bubbly and bright! But I guess it depends on how you say [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]? I sort of blur the last two syllables into one and a half - like so-feer almost - whereas [name_f]Mia[/name_f] would be two distinctive sounds - me-uh. As for [name_m]Spencer[/name_m], I know plenty of people with (-a) (-er) names if that helps!

[name_f]Marla[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m] is nice - but maybe a bit too ‘Marks and Spencers’?

[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m] is sweet too!

Some ideas:

[name_f]Callie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] S.
[name_f]Kaia[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] S.
[name_f]Libby[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] S.

I wouldn’t worry about the repeat A endings. [name_f]Marla[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] is really cute and I love [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f].

The -a names sound fine to me with [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]! Nicely melodic, if anything. [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] is the only one that I find noticeably rhymey, but it’s not the end of the world if it’s your favourite name!

I probably wouldn’t do [name_f]Mila[/name_f] & [name_f]Myla[/name_f] personally, but since Myla’s parents don’t mind, I think you could make it work!

I do love [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] from your list, but since you aren’t sold on it, here are some ideas:

[name_f]Belle[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Colette[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]

[name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mira[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Noelle[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Nina[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Penny[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]

Many years ago, I came up with [name_f]Maren[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] on the boards for a fellow contributor, which was selected for her daughter. Still like it!

[name_f]Marla[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] doesn’t bother me. It’s not the American way, normally, so to speak, not knowing where you are. But, in many places -a endings in combos are preferred. It can have a lovely sound, imo.

Maybe:

[name_f]Maren[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marietta[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mari[/name_f], [name_f]Etti[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f] even [name_m]Ari[/name_m]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marisol[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marnie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]

Other non M/ IE-ending names:

[name_f]Callie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruby[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] ** Personal fav with the surname
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]

Hopefully these help

If you like [name_f]Marla[/name_f], I don’t think that’s too many a sounds, [name_f]Marla[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m] is a pretty name.

If you want some cute ‘ie’ names, what about:

[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_f]Katie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_f]Lucie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_f]Lillie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_m]Charlie[/name_m] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_f]Millie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]

Other names I think you could use:
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_m]Rory[/name_m] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_f]Juno[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m] (this one would be a good alternative to [name_f]Amalie[/name_f], maybe?)
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]

i can sense an american vs. british name pronunciation kerfuffle coming

I love the meaning behind [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] for you, so that’s a lovely middle name you’ve chosen!

Since her last name will also start with S, I wondered if there are first names that sound good with [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] that start with S too, and you could just go full throttle with that initial. Put a big S up in her nursery, get her cute monogram clothing with just a big S on it…I don’t know. This suggestion is not for everyone, and it’s cool if you hate it. You’ll get lots of great suggestions from other people. But I’m going to roll with it:

[name_m]Sawyer[/name_m] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_m]Shalom[/name_m] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_f]Sharlene[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_m]Sheron[/name_m] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_f]Shirley[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_f]Sierrah[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_f]Sloane[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m] - probably my favorite of these options
[name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m]

Alternatively, I’m just going to point out that besides the close friend whose daughter is named [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] seems perfect for you. It sounds great with [name_m]Spencer[/name_m], it’s not “old”, it’s got the feminine, global flair you seem to gravitate toward. It has a wonderful memory attached to it. What if, whenever you’re around that one friend, your daughter is called “Fia” (like [name_f]Mia[/name_f], which you love), and hers is hypothetically, maybe called [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], and there’s no confusion and everyone gets the name they love? And you could still use [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] in the middle, if you still love it. [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] “Fia” [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m].

right  I forget how much difference it can make

Congrats on your engagement! I have only skimmed the other replies so may be repeats etc but how about:

Mary-Sofia Spencer (ie double first name, nn Maisie - Mary-Sofia would age so well whereas to me, and obviously subjective, Marlie for eg, is a great name until you exit your teens…)
Marion Sofia Spencer (again Maisie a possible nn)
Marianne Sofia Spencer (Maisie, Mari, Moppy)
Charlotte Sofia Spencer (so elegant, Lottie, Charlie & Arlo for short)
Lily Sofia Spencer (how sweet! And not as close as Mila/Myla)
Romy Sofia Spencer (super chic!)
Cleo Sofia Spencer (though maybe Autumn better as a middle with Cleo?)
Gemma Sophie Spencer (think Sophie better here)
Zoe Sofia Spencer (love this bright and energetic name - youthful but ages well)
Keira Sofia Spencer
Neve Sofia Spencer
Blair Sofia Spencer
Darcy Sofia Spencer
Claire Sofia Spencer
Noelle/ Joelle Sofia Spencer
Philippa Sofia Spencer (Pip, Pippa, Polly)

Edit: just saw above re Sofia in first - it would be such a beautiful name in top spot. I have close friends who have the same kids’ names (as in three names have been used twice among a close group) and it really doesn’t bother anyone or cause confusion in real life. Sofia Autumn Spencer would be so beautiful - you could use “Fia” (like Mia) - and even “Sass/Sassy” in the home from her initials. I would keep that on the list!

Hope that helps!

Sorry if this is unhelpful - but I actually think [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m] is an awesome name and I would keep it. I know a little girl called M i a M a r t i n a and I hear compliments about her name often (including from me)! It’s not a tongue twister, it’s straightforward and very cute. So just a vote here for [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]! :heartpulse:

[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Emery[/name_f]
[name_f]Molly[/name_f]
[name_f]Camille[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mila[/name_f]

Haha exactly this! I’m [name_f]British[/name_f] and say so-fi-a, however everyone I’ve asked is pronouncing it so-feer. Very interesting!

What about

[name_f]Mallory[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m] - i think it gives you all the things you like in a name but is distinct from names already used in your circles

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

Ooh, [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] is such a pretty middle name and has a very sweet meaning for you. I think that [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] sounds okay. It’s a little rhyme-y, but I really love [name_f]Mia[/name_f], too. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mia[/name_f]? Is that less rhyme-y? Maybe not…

From your list, I think that [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] [name_m]Spencer[/name_m] seems to be the only one that you don’t have a problem with. I used to be staunch on [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] only as a nn for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] & it’s too nick-name-y on its own. But I’ve come around & think that [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is cute on its own. As for [name_f]Marla[/name_f], I don’t think that it’s too ‘a’ heavy. I don’t like it that much personally, but it’s a fine name & sort of unique.

Here are a few ideas that you may like…

And another vote for [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]! It would give you both [name_f]Mia[/name_f] and [name_f]Mila[/name_f] options.

From your list I would pick [name_f]Amalie[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f], but I agree with others that [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] is a great choice for you and gives you [name_f]Mila[/name_f] or [name_f]Mia[/name_f] as a nickname (and lots of other great choices).

I would also consider just going for [name_f]Mila[/name_f] as you have the parents go ahead on that. It’s most important to pick a name you love out of context of other names, so don’t let the similarity of [name_f]Myla[/name_f] put you off as it won’t always be said alongside her name.
