Our last name is [name]Cherry[/name], and I’m having a tough time thinking of names that would go well it. Obviously, [name]Bing[/name], Popper and [name]Buster[/name] are out
My husband keeps suggesting what I would call “cutesy” names, like [name]Kayla[/name] and [name]Bailey[/name], which just aren’t my style and in my opinion are just a bit to precious with our last name. I like more classic, vintage names, but I also want something that sounds nice with our surname. A few I’ve liked so far include [name]Nora[/name], [name]Eliza[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name]. I was hoping that the Nameberry community could give me some great suggestions that would go well with our last name.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Matilda[/name]! [name]Danielle[/name] is so lovely, but it’s actually his sister’s name. [name]Gabrielle[/name], [name]Victoria[/name] and [name]Catherine[/name] are also gorgeous.
My first thought was [name]Bryony[/name]/[name]Briony[/name]
It has the cuteness factor and the classic name factor I think you’re looking for…
Also loving the suggestion of [name]Marjorie[/name], which is supercute and graceful all at once!
It’s true, [name]Cherry[/name] is a hard one to match! I’d avoid all word names, if I were you, and all names ending in a y. I think you’re right that you need something with a bit of weight to it to avoid sounding cartoonish.
I like [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Cherry[/name] and [name]Norah[/name] [name]Cherry[/name] a lot. I think the alliteration of [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Cherry[/name] might be a bit much.
That is a bit of a tough one, but I think it is cute! I would personally stick with strong, elegant classics that maybe aren’t too feminine but still names that have a sweet sound. Also, [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Cherry[/name] is a bit much with the CH sound, so I’d say let that one go (as much as it pains me to say it!)…
[name]Caroline[/name] [name]Cherry[/name] - This is lovely and elegant.
[name]Cornelia[/name] [name]Cherry[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name] [name]Cherry[/name]
[name]Dorothea[/name] [name]Cherry[/name] - But, you can’t call her [name]Dotty[/name] [name]Cherry[/name]!
[name]Daphne[/name] [name]Cherry[/name]
[name]Diana[/name] [name]Cherry[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name] [name]Cherry[/name] - This is about as feminine as I’d get…
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Cherry[/name]
[name]Florence[/name] [name]Cherry[/name]
[name]Ursula[/name] [name]Cherry[/name] - I can’t ever think of U names!
[name]Vivian[/name] [name]Cherry[/name] - Quite nice, if I must say so myself.
[name]Victoria[/name] [name]Cherry[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Cherry[/name] - Ha! Had to throw that one in there…
[name]Vanessa[/name] [name]Cherry[/name]
Some were just for fun, but I think you have some good girl options here! Unfortunately, [name]Cherry[/name] seems to make many nicknames sound silly (e.g., [name]Sarah[/name] “[name]Sadie[/name]” [name]Cherry[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name] “[name]Libby[/name]” [name]Cherry[/name], [name]Caroline[/name] “[name]Carrie[/name]” [name]Cherry[/name], etc.), so you need to work with that…
Wow, fantastic suggestions everyone! You have no idea how helpful this is…I actually have a nice, lovely list of names to present to my hubby
I could also use some suggestions for boy names. I tend to like a lot of the classics ([name]William[/name], [name]Daniel[/name], [name]James[/name], etc), but I’m not opposed to names that are a bit out of the mainstream (I quite like [name]Atticus[/name], for example). [name]Henry[/name] is my absolute favorite boys name of all time, but I’m a bit worried that the ‘y’ ending will be a bit to sing-songy with our last name. What do you think?
[name]Henry[/name] is my favorite male name - along with [name]Nathaniel[/name] - too! I think [name]Henry[/name] [name]Cherry[/name] is fine, but [name]Harry[/name] [name]Cherry[/name] is not…
[name]Henry[/name] is my favorite boys’ name, too. To me, [name]Henry[/name] [name]Cherry[/name] is matchy, but not over the top sing-songy. If you’re not comfortable using it up front, you could always use it in the middle!
