Names to Honor a Kelly?

Hi all! In my family the people we would likely honor with our name choices all have pretty flexible options for namesake choices (Mary, Ann, Walter, etc.). However, my MIL’s name is Kelly which doesn’t seem to lend well to modifications. (Her middle is Lynn, which is very off the table.) I’m looking for some creative ideas that honor the name without getting toooo convoluted. Thanks in advance!

Maybe…
[name_m]Kellen[/name_m] / [name_m]Kellan[/name_m]
[name_u]Keller[/name_u]
[name_u]Kelsey[/name_u]
[name_u]Keeley[/name_u]
[name_f]Kelilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Kellina[/name_f]

[name_u]Keeley[/name_u] sprung to mind.

[name_f]My[/name_f] mother in law is [name_u]Kelley[/name_u], when pregnant with my son if he had been a girl middles were going to be

[name_m]Kellyn[/name_m] or [name_f]Brielle[/name_f] (my sister BRI +kELLE)

Another choice for you

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] + [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] =Mael/Maelle (means princess)

Maybe Kesley or [name_u]Kelsey[/name_u]?

[name_f]Kalista[/name_f] also came to mind, but I’m not sure if it’s too much of a stretch for you.

[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] which blends some of the sounds from [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] and [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]

If that doesn’t appeal then what about a name with a similar meaning to [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] (which means war, or warrior in some definitions). Here are a few ideas but there are lots more girl names meaning/related to warrior out there. [name_u]Or[/name_u] you could even use [name_u]Warrior[/name_u] itself like [name_f]Bindi[/name_f] [name_m]Irwin[/name_m] just did!

[name_f]Athena[/name_f] - Greek goddess of War
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] - [name_m]Roman[/name_m] goddess of war
[name_f]Marcheline[/name_f] - warrior
[name_f]Mathilda[/name_f] - battle-mighty
[name_f]Maude[/name_f] - another variation meaning battle-mighty
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] - renowned warrior

If those angles don’t appeal, does MIL’s maiden name work as a middle?

Good luck!

Kellyce or Kellece, Kellbie, Kellista, Kellene, Kell, Kellynda.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] those ideas, Elsterg! I didn’t think I would like names with the meaning war/warrior but seeing [name_f]Athena[/name_f] does give me a second thought on that. Husband loves greek mythology names, so that could be a nice combo of namesakes.

Unfortunately MIL comes from dysfunctional family with the unfortunate last name Pitts… so probably not much there. But this got my wheels turning, so thank you!

Loving [name_u]Keller[/name_u], EagleEyes! Actually a perfect fit as [name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_u]Keller[/name_u] is a favorite of mine (both mine and my husband’s grandfathers are blind). Thanks for the idea!

Thanks all for your contributions. I think we’ve found a couple really good ways to bend the name.

Well the name means [name_u]Green[/name_u]. So other names that mean [name_u]Green[/name_u] maybe like:
[name_f]Cloris[/name_f]
[name_f]Laverne[/name_f]
[name_f]Jada[/name_f]
[name_u]Cypress[/name_u]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Beryl[/name_f]
[name_u]Or[/name_u] one of the [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] sound-alike names:
Kelia
[name_f]Kelani[/name_f]
Kelise
[name_u]Keller[/name_u]
[name_u]Kelsey[/name_u]

I love mythology names - [name_f]Athena[/name_f] was on my list for a middle. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] you get to use it as I can live my name dreams through you ha ha!

There is [name_f]Kehlani[/name_f] - it seems like a name for which [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] could be short for. It’s Hawaiian.
Other ideas:
[name_u]Kay[/name_u]
[name_u]Kelsey[/name_u] / [name_u]Kelby[/name_u]
[name_f]Keira[/name_f] (the spelling is kind of simillar, the pronounciation goes more like “Kee-ra”)
[name_u]Kestrel[/name_u] also came to mind - it’s a nature name, but it contains K and L so maybe not that much of a stretch?
[name_f]Carly[/name_f] / [name_f]Karly[/name_f]
And maybe you could try names that start with the K sound and have a -lynn ending like [name_f]Coralyn[/name_f], [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] etc.

Have you thought about other ideas to honour your MIL like giving your daughter the name of MIL’s favourite flower, her birthstone, a place name that’s important to her, something connected to hobbies and interests of her? There’s endless possibilities in that regard.

[name_f]Kelis[/name_f] would be my first thought.
