Thinking it would be weird to use anything with [name]William[/name] since the person being honored is actually named [name]Billy[/name]. My criteria is that it cant be dated, it needs to be stylish and not too frilly.
I do like [name]Willa[/name] but not enough to use it. What about [name]Lily[/name]? Is it too far of a stretch and is it no longer really stylish since its become almost too saturated? (Im in the us) also is [name]Lily[/name] to cutsie and do you think its frilly?
[name]Lily[/name] is definitely a stretch. If you want to honor [name]Billy[/name], why not [name]Billie[/name]? There are girls named [name]Billie[/name].
Is [name]Lily[/name]/[name]Lilly[/name] a stretch? Its essentially the same sound just with a different beginning. I dont want to use [name]Billie[/name], its too masculine for my taste and NMS.
Im intriged by the suggestion of [name]Mia[/name]. Im guess Im missing the connection between [name]Mia[/name] and [name]Billy[/name]…? I do like [name]Mia[/name] though. Anyone else think that [name]Lilly[/name]/lily is a stretch?
I think it’s a stretch. If my name was [name]Billy[/name] and someone said they were naming their daughter [name]Lily[/name], I wouldn’t make the connection with any of those names mentioned. The only one I could see is if the person’s full name was [name]William[/name] and you named your daughter [name]Willa[/name]. [name]Mia[/name] is another stretch for me.
[name]Lilly[/name] is stretching the honor thing a bit, though not miles and miles imo; I wouldn’t make the connection myself but then if you said “We chose it because it rhymes with my grandpa [name]Billy[/name]'s name” I would think oh that’s nice.
For me instead of a name that rhymes I would probably go with a connection on the meaning of the name but you may like the idea of the same letters being in there.
More ideas:
[name]Abilene[/name] nn [name]Abbie[/name] *cute
Bailly *just one added letter, & is a valid variant spelling of the old English [name]Bailey[/name] per some sites. As a first name perhaps sounds dated but could be be a cute mn since it is honoring.
[name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Cybil[/name] or [name]Cybille[/name]
[name]Emily[/name]
[name]Illyssa[/name]
[name]Romilly[/name]
Like pp’s ideas of getting an -illie nickname from another full name such as [name]Amelia[/name]/[name]Millie[/name] or [name]Matilda[/name]/[name]Tillie[/name].
