How about [name_f]Polly[/name_f] for a girl? It shares a sound with [name_m]Paul[/name_m] (or kind of does, depending on your accent) and it is another ‘Mary’ name like [name_f]Maureen[/name_f].
[name_f]Paulina[/name_f], [name_f]Pauline[/name_f], [name_f]Polina[/name_f] and [name_m]Paulino[/name_m] are the most intuitive options.
I may also consider the following names with similar sounds or letters:
[name_f]Paislee[/name_f]
[name_m]Pearlie[/name_m]
[name_f]Pansy[/name_f] - “thought”
[name_f]Peony[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Presley[/name_f]
Polianna
[name_f]Praise[/name_f]
I’m just going to second @Estrela and say [name_f]Paulina[/name_f]! Such a cute name and feels fresher than [name_f]Pauline[/name_f].
I looked up the meaning, I could sort of see why “small and humble” wouldn’t be the most ideal meaning for a girl’s name, but it’s not bad either. I think in your case, the meaning is in the honor, so I wouldn’t let it stop you!
I sort of think [name_f]Polly[/name_f] would work for both (Mary historically has roots in [name_f]Polly[/name_f] and [name_f]Maureen[/name_f], while [name_m]Paul[/name_m] to [name_f]Polly[/name_f] feels more obvious). But I like the idea of [name_f]Opal[/name_f]! Maybe [name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] or [name_f]Opaline[/name_f] for both.
