My sister has a 4 year old boy named [name]Luca[/name], and my husband and I are pretty much settled on the name [name]Lucia[/name] for a girl (we are not finding out the gender). We not only love the name (and nn options), but there is personal meaning behind it. The only hesitation being that the cousins names would be too similar. We have different last names and live on opposite sides of the country, so we will sadly, only be together a few times a year.
I talked to my sister about it (we are very close and talk on the phone daily), who said, she thought it was a little weird for cousins to have names that are so similar, but she will support whatever we choose.
I would love to hear some thoughts! Thank you!
Well, they’re pronounced in two different ways so if you’re really keen on calling a daughter [name]Lucia[/name], I reckon its not the end of the world.
This is a tough one for me. Spelling wise they’re similar, but are said differently. If it still bugs you after seeing what responses you get here, here are some other suggestions:
[name]Isla[/name]
[name]Paloma[/name]
[name]Lavinia[/name]
[name]Lura[/name]
[name]Luce[/name]
[name]Gianna[/name]
[name]Elena[/name]
[name]Mia[/name]
[name]Mila[/name]
[name]Aria[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Noelle[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
It’s fine, especially as your sister is okay with it. I don’t think you should let go of the name just because it’s similar.
I have a friend (widower) with a daughter named [name]Milla[/name], and he lives with his girlfriend who has a son named [name]Milo[/name]. They live in the same house and makes it work perfectly fine.
I think [name]Luca[/name] and [name]Lucia[/name] are fine. They are pronounced differently. And, you already discussed it with your sister so I say if you both love the name and it has special meaning to you go for it!
Totally fine. If your sister is okay with it, I don’t see the problem. I have 2 cousins born a month apart named [name]Ryan[/name] and [name]Brian[/name] and its never been an issue. They also saw each other far more often than you said you see your sister’s family. [name]Lucia[/name] is so pretty, good choice!
The spellings look similar, but the pronunciations are totally different. I’d go for it, you might regret giving up a favourite name with some much meaning.
It’s completely fine, they’re said differently and different genders/origins etc.
I say it’s fine too. My nephew’s nn is [name]Anders[/name] and we plan on naming our next son [name]Andrew[/name].
I actually think it’s kind of cool.
I think it’s ok to use [name]Lucia[/name]!
Thank you for your feedback! All your comments make me feel much better, I think we will go for it!
