Names too similar?

[name_f]My[/name_f] top 2 favorite boy names of all time are [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] and [name_u]Lane[/name_u]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think these names are way too similar to be brothers or would they sound fine together?

Thanks!

I think they’re absolutely fine together.

It’s like [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_u]Jack[/name_u] - both only syllable ending in the same consonant sound. But different starts, different vowel sounds… I reckon totally usable.

I think their similarity would bother me as a prospective parent and I probably would not use them as siblings. However, are they unusable together? No. [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] and [name_u]Lane[/name_u] would grow to be people in their own right and that they share a 1 syllable name with L and N sounds with a sibling really is not an issue!

If [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] (b) and [name_u]Lane[/name_u] (g) or vice versa, I feel the similarity matters even less.

TLDR: very similar but not too similar.

Agree with PP, it would slightly bug me as a name nerd parent because I’d want to mix them up in terms of syllable count and make them more similar in terms of style - but it’d be fine for the two sons making their way in the world!

Eg for me, I would go something like [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] & [name_u]Landon[/name_u] (or another name altogether with [name_u]Lane[/name_u] as middle name) and [name_u]Lane[/name_u] & [name_u]Finley[/name_u] (or another name altogether with [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] as middle). But if these are your all-times, use them!

I think they sound okay!

Totally fine

Not too similar at all!

They’re close, due to both being one syllable with an L and N sound, but not too, too similar in sound - so I think overall they’re definitely usable as a sibset! I wouldn’t use them together myself, but if they’re your top 2 favorites of all time, I don’t see any reason you couldn’t use them together. As long as you are happy with them, that’s all that matters!

I think they are close. But they do have different vowel sounds. I have 2 boys [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_u]Layne[/name_u].

[name_f]Pretty[/name_f] similar and i can’t say them together very fast easily. If that matters! I’d keep looking
