Names with Beautiful Meanings?

My husband and I recently experienced a pregnancy loss, miscarriage at 6 weeks. This was a very upsetting time for us, but through love and support from each other, our family and wonderful midwife, we pulled through and are looking forward to trying again in [name_u]November[/name_u].
We’d love to in some way honor the baby we lost with our future child’s name. (as more of a celebration of new life after sadness, rather than grief.)
A couple we’ve thought of are
[name_m]Josiah[/name_m] (meaning, “God Heals”)
[name_f]Evelina/name_f
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] (one meaning is rainbow…for those who don’t know, a pregnancy/baby after a loss is called your “rainbow baby”)

What other names can you think of with beautiful meanings that could be significant to us?

Other criteria: We have one child already, named [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f], so we’d like a name that doesn’t clash with her name

I’m so sorry for your loss. I think [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] would be lovely! Definitely similar to [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] in some ways, I think it’s subjective whether too much or just right. I like it.

[name_m]Josiah[/name_m] is also lovely. Other thoughts for a boy:
[name_m]Emrys[/name_m] or [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], meaning immortal… as in your lost child lives on through you all?
[name_m]Amos[/name_m] - carried by God
[name_m]Eli[/name_m] - ascended, uplifted

for a girl, maybe a celestial name?
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]/[name_f]Celestia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aster[/name_f]
[name_u]Seren[/name_u]

or a name meaning life/spirit?
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_f]Liv[/name_f]
[name_f]Enid[/name_f]

@emsky Thank you. And thank you for your suggestions.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I personally named my miscarriage. I gave it the name at first of [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Noelani[/name_f], [name_u]Winter[/name_u] which was the season and [name_f]Noelani[/name_f] means mist of heaven but I recently renamed her [name_u]Reagan[/name_u] [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]. It’s not for everyone however it really helped me.

I never before considered honoring the lost pregnancy/baby before by giving the next child a name that is in part a reflection of that.

I do love [name_f]Iris[/name_f] with [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], and I also think [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] would be a great name. Same meaning as [name_f]Evelina[/name_f].

[name_m]Josiah[/name_m] is just perfect.

@Scblovesnames Thank you. We did name our miscarriage ([name_u]Wren[/name_u] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f]) but, I think it would be nice to celebrate life with the name of our next baby as well… In more of a happy, joyous way, than a sad way. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] that makes sense.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

For girls, the names Amadeé and [name_f]Amadea[/name_f] mean “God’s love/beloved.” [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Amadea[/name_f] is a beautiful combination in my opinion.

Here are a few names I could find that may be what you are looking for. I’m truly sorry for your loss.

[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] - “awakening, enlightenment”
[name_m]Abel[/name_m] - “breath”
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] - “told by God”

Really sorry to hear about your loss. I hope that all goes really well with the next pregnancy and your new life brings lots of smiles!

I love the idea of honoring your last baby with the next one’s name.

As you know, I love the name [name_f]Evelina[/name_f], so my vote for a girls name would be [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]…then we can have “matching” [name_f]Evelina[/name_f]'s

Other names I thought of/found: (this is not my strength, so just a couple…)

For a girl…
[name_f]Viva[/name_f] (life)
[name_u]Vida[/name_u] (life)
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f] (hope)
[name_f]Esme[/name_f]/[name_f]Ismay[/name_f] (esteemed, beloved)
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f] (joy)

For a boy…
I like [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]!
Or…
[name_m]Asher[/name_m] (happy)
[name_m]Caradoc[/name_m] (beloved)
[name_m]Jubal[/name_m] (Biblical inventor of the lyre, a musical instrument used in celebrations; sounds like “jubilee”)

@aread I love [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]! [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] is one we’ve tossed around a bit too. I love [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_m]Asher[/name_m] too  I’m definitely wanting a name that leans more towards “happiness” than reminds me of our sadness.

I’m so sorry! I think a name with a beautiful meaning is a lovely idea.
