I’m due in 6 weeks and can’t decide on a boy name. I feel like they’re just all so common and overused? I saw a post on here earlier where someone was giving examples of a first and middle name with beautiful meanings behind them. So please share your favorite name combos and the meaning behind them. Thanks!
I don’t really have combos, I’m struggling for a boy’s name too, here are some I like that I can’t use for a reason or another:
[name_m]Sirius[/name_m] (brightest star in the sky)
[name_u]Orion[/name_u] (a constellation I always like for no particular reason)
[name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] (west wind, the breeze of spring)
[name_m]Mael[/name_m] (Prince)
[name_m]Oswald[/name_m] (divine power)
[name_m]Orson[/name_m] (little bear)
Ayur (moon)
[name_m]Adriel[/name_m] (one who follows [name_m]God[/name_m], not too fond of the meaning but it’s so pretty)
Was there a particular meaning you’d like to convey?
Here are some names that have beautiful meanings (in my opinion). If I knew a bit more about your style and desired message I could [hopefully] be of more help!)
These are beautiful combinations I don’t ever plan to use for myself (I don’t like repeating first initials among siblings):
+Ambrose Christopher “immortal bearer of Christ”
+Amias Nathaniel or Amias Theodore “loved gift of God”
+Amos Gabriel or Amos Othniel “carried by God; God is my strength” or “carried by God; lion of God/strength of God)
+Balin Dominic “mighty sword belonging to the Lord” In Christianity the “sword” is the Spirit/Word of God (just in case you didn’t already know )
+Hugo Prosper “heart, mind, soul prosper”
+Hugo Leon or Hugo Lionel or Hugo Leonidas “heart, mind, soul [of a] lion
+Hugo Christopher “heart, mind, soul bearer of Christ)
+Jasper Hugo or Casper Hugo “bringer of treasure, heart, mind, soul” (related to a Bible verse about the heart bringing forth good from the “good treasure” stored within.)
+Cashel Vincent “castle/fortress conquering” (related to overcoming in Christ and God being a “fortress” to the believer.)
+Florin Christopher or Florian Christopher “flourishing bearer of Christ”
+Leonidas Christopher or Lionel Christopher “lion, bearer of Christ” (related to a verse about being bold as a lion)
+Matthias Valor “gift of God; valor”
+Oswald Matthew or Oswald Theodore or Oswald Nathaniel or Oswald Jack “divine power; gift of God or God is gracious” (symbolic of the gracious gift of freedom/power to overcome granted by God through Christ)
+Prosper Nicolas “prosper victorious people” (the spiritual prospering that believers gain through victory in Christ.)
+Valentine Christopher “strong & healthy bearer of Christ”
If you have a more specific idea of what you’d like to convey and a couple names you like I can help with a combo that suits you better if none of these are your style!
Also if meaningful biblical combinations interest you, I have a thread dedicated to that (I can link it here for you if you are interested)
I’m pretty terrible with name meanings, both remembering them and putting them together, especially for someone who spends so much time immersed in names as a hobby But here are a few ‘meaningful combos’
[name_m]Maxen[/name_m] [name_m]Irving[/name_m] ‘great, green river’
[name_u]Blythe[/name_u] [name_m]Tarka[/name_m] ‘cheerful, wandering as water’
[name_m]Aurelian[/name_m] [name_f]Prideaux[/name_f] ‘golden meadow’
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] ‘laughter and light’
[name_m]Oisin[/name_m] [name_m]Miro[/name_m] ‘peaceful little deer’
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_m]Dalziel[/name_m] ‘immortal white field’
This is boy number 5. Siblings are [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_u]Levi[/name_u], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. The one name I do like but my husband does not is [name_u]Luca[/name_u].
[name_m]Sholto[/name_m] [name_m]Felix[/name_m] (sower of happiness and good fortune)
[name_m]Otto[/name_m] [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] (prosperous traveller)
[name_m]Nevan[/name_m] [name_m]Silas[/name_m] (little saint of the forest)
[name_u]Ezra[/name_u] [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] (help and brave counsel / brave, helpful counsel)
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] (peaceful mind / peace of mind)
I would love the link to that thread! I tend to lean towards biblical or nature inspired names. Thank you!
[name_u]Welcome[/name_u]!
It depends on what you want! You could go directly biblical or you could do something like:
Rowell [name_u]Darby[/name_u] which is “spring/well” + “deer park” which is reminiscent of [name_u]Psalm[/name_u] 23 just in a more indirect way.
Other names less common biblical and/or nature names:
[name_m]Jorah[/name_m]
[name_m]Hananiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Jeriah[/name_m]
[name_u]Cedar[/name_u]
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m]
[name_m]Osias[/name_m]
[name_m]Jerome[/name_m]
[name_m]Zadok[/name_m]
[name_m]Benaiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
Hopefully these help!

The names there are particularly matched to specific readings so you may or may not find something you like!
As far as names that go with your boys I think of (not sure what is popular in your area);
Theodore, Levi, Isaac, Rhys &…
Adler “eagle” (brings to mind the verse in Isaiah, “mount up like eagles”, though some sources say the translation “vultures” would be more accurate.) A very handsome choice, I think!
Amos “carried by God”
Asher “blessed, happy”
Barnabas/Barnaby “son of consolation”
Benaiah “built by God”
Felix “happy; fortunate”
Galvin “sparrow”
Josiah “God supports; heals”
Silas (disciple who ministered/traveled with Paul) “of the forest” or “prayed for”
Jude/Judah “praised”
Nolan “champion”
Zane “God is gracious”
Xander “defender of mankind”
Otis “wealthy” (treasures in heaven, spiritually prosperous, etc.)
Dalton “the settlement in the valley” (can be a picture of looking to God for strength in struggles/hardships/lowly places when paired with a middle like Amos or Gabriel, etc.)
If you think of a specific message I can give you suggestions based on that as well
I love [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_u]Dawson[/name_u]! [name_m]Felix[/name_m] means happy or lucky and [name_u]Dawson[/name_u] means beloved or favorite. As someone who has struggled with infertility I find these both to be very meaningful names!
