Names with Nickname Eli

[name_m]Hi[/name_m], we like the name [name_u]Eli[/name_u] for our baby boy, but feel it may be too short/informal. Does anyone have any ideas, even if they are somewhat of a stretch. Considering [name_u]Eliot[/name_u] and [name_u]Elias[/name_u] right now but don’t love those, and we don’t like [name_u]Elijah[/name_u] at all. Thanks!

I love a short name

[name_m]Elian[/name_m] ? Much less common but lovely.

I think [name_u]Eli[/name_u] can stand on its own. You could do a combined first-middle to get to [name_u]Eli[/name_u]:

[name_m]Esau[/name_m] [name_u]Lionel[/name_u]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_m]Linus[/name_m]
[name_m]Egan[/name_m] [name_u]Lightning[/name_u]
[name_m]Enoch[/name_m] [name_m]Lion[/name_m]

I’ve known a ‘just’ [name_u]Eli[/name_u] if that helps :person_shrugging:

Here are some other ideas:

Elved (this is Welsh, I believe)
[name_u]Lyle[/name_u], [name_u]Clyde[/name_u]?

(I will join the chorus of [name_u]Eli[/name_u] as a great name in and of itself, though!)

[name_u]Eli[/name_u] can stand on its own. I have an [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] and love [name_u]Eli[/name_u] as a nickname but it doesn’t feel natural because they make completely different sounds. They also have a very different feel to me. [name_f]My[/name_f] brother is the only one who calls my son [name_u]Eli[/name_u] and while I’m okay with him calling him that, it really makes me take pause and know its not a nickname that can stick! It just doesn’t work.

I would think maybe [name_m]Elian[/name_m] or [name_m]Elio[/name_m] work better. I’ve known people just [name_u]Eli[/name_u] as a given name and I think its perfectly formal as is. I do hear it as a nickname for [name_u]Elijah[/name_u] the most so just know people might mistake his name for that at times!
