I’ve said this about [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and others include [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Lilou[/name_f], [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f]/[name_f]Neveah[/name_f]/Navaya, and a few more. What names do you not get the appeal of?
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] and [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]! I do love [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] though.
[name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] and [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] are the same name unless you actually pronounce [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] the french way? But who actually does that lol!
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f]
[name_f]Maren[/name_f] (rhymes with [name_f]Caren[/name_f])
[name_f]Betsy[/name_f]/[name_f]Bessie[/name_f]
@cgwaltney: For most, they sure are! But something about the [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] spelling and look really puts me off. I think it looks a bit too frilly (with no actual need) for me. I do tend to pronunciate them a liiiittle bit differently to justify my dislike of [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] lol
Oh, really?! I actually like the elongated spelling of [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]. It think it gives the name a more feminine vibe than the classic [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]. Maybe you’ll come around
I so love [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]! [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] just looks like someone missed too many [name_m]French[/name_m] classes. Names I don’t get: [name_u]Toby[/name_u], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_f]Milly[/name_f], most E- names (barring a few classics), [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Wesley[/name_m], and [name_f]Barbara[/name_f].
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] for me too! I think it’s the ugliest name out there. I don’t get the appeal.
Other names are the old lady ones: [name_f]Ethel[/name_f], [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], [name_f]Doris[/name_f]
For me it has to be
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Neveah[/name_f]
[name_f]Alma[/name_f]
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]
[name_f]Doris[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
The only two that come to mind are [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]. I really don’t see the appeal of either of those.
There are some old-lady/dated/vintage names that I just don’t find at all attractive:
[name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_f]Ethel[/name_f]
[name_f]Nancy[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] (this one irks me so much!)
[name_f]Gertrude[/name_f]
[name_f]Paula[/name_f]
[name_f]Betsy[/name_f]/[name_f]Betty[/name_f] and other cutesy old-ladyish names
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] (reminds me of maple, as in syrup)
[name_f]Mildred[/name_f]
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] (not a fan of food names, although [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is slowly moving off my most disliked list)
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
There are two styles of name that I just cannot see the appeal of: heavy, old-fashioned clunkers (like [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], [name_f]Maud[/name_f], [name_f]Sybil[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] & [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]), and masculine-surname type trendies (such as [name_u]Sloan[/name_u], [name_f]Greer[/name_f], [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u], [name_u]Tatum[/name_u] & [name_u]Fallon[/name_u]).
I generally just do not like these types of names myself though do seem to have exceptions here and there (a slight step up - never anything I’d consider using myself though), usually when the name I hear on someone who seems to wear it well and/or I relate a positive association to (such as [name_f]Margot[/name_f] & [name_f]Esther[/name_f]).
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
I think they all sound middle-aged and frumpy.
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Nova[/name_f]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Reverie[/name_f]
Trying too hard to be quirky.
[name_m]Ethan[/name_m] - very popular here in Australia, but I just hate it.
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
It’s not even the Friends character; it just sounds so unappealing.
Some names which are popular on nameberry which I just don’t get are [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]. [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] is soooo popular where I live and I just don’t see the appeal, although I do love [name_f]Georgina[/name_f].
I also don’t get names like [name_u]Sloane[/name_u] and [name_f]Greer[/name_f] and then really old names like [name_f]Doris[/name_f], [name_f]Ethel[/name_f] and [name_f]Maude[/name_f]. [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is okay, but it’s pretty popular in my area.
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].
Too many names for me! But mostly:
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_u]Taylor[/name_u]/[name_f]Tayla[/name_f]/Taylah/etc
[name_f]Bronwyn[/name_f]
Evelynx
[name_f]Prue[/name_f]
[name_f]Prue[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
I don’t see the appeal of overly popular names such as [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. While they aren’t bad names, I just don’t see how they got SO popular.
I’m also not a huge fan of [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Belle[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] and most girls names beginning with K with the exception of [name_f]Kate[/name_f].
As for boys, [name_u]Riley[/name_u]. Ick.
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]!
There are many names that are [name_u]Berry[/name_u] favorites that just aren’t my style, but I don’t think I will ever get the appeal of these two. [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is just icky sounding and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] screams country bumpkin to me. I can’t picture an adult wearing either of these names, especially [name_f]Clementine[/name_f].
On a smaller scale, I don’t really understand the appeal of [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]. It reminds me of a princess name that a little girl would make up. I think it’s the [name_u]FEE[/name_u]-na sound that I don’t like.
