[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Louise[/name_f] have always sounded like pond scum to me. [name_f]Giselle[/name_f] sounds…profane.
I hate the name [name_f]Veronica[/name_f]. I can’t stand it (sorry to anyone who like the name [name_f]Veronica[/name_f])
There are a lot of names I hate, but the three that immediately come to mind are [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_u]Jodie[/name_u] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. I cringe when I heard these names. [name_u]Jodie[/name_u] isn’t a big deal because no one uses it anymore, but [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is everywhere and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is making a comeback. I hate [name_u]Jodie[/name_u] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] because of people I knew and I just can’t stand the sound of [name_f]Felicity[/name_f].
[name_f]Braelyn[/name_f] (and its INFINITE permutations)
Brinlyn (and its INFINITE permutations)
[name_f]Brynlee[/name_f] (and its INFINITE permutations)
[name_u]Brinsley[/name_u] / [name_f]Kinsley[/name_f] (and their INFINITE permutations)
[name_f]Brielle[/name_f] / [name_f]Briella[/name_f] / Aubriella
Monstrosities like Aubriaunna, etc.
IS THIS REAL LIFE?
They do not sound classy and feminine. Sorry, ladies.
SO, SO downmarket.
My husband LOVES the names you hate, OP, and I hate them for the same reasons you do. His top contenders for our second daughter are [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]. Her last name will be [name_m]Smith[/name_m]… the most common, boring surname in our society… literally. [name_u]Bran[/name_u] Flake would be an improvement over [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m].
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f], [name_f]Bertha[/name_f], [name_f]Bethany[/name_f], [name_f]Charity[/name_f], [name_u]Darcy[/name_u], [name_f]Ethel[/name_f], [name_f]Janine[/name_f], [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f], [name_f]Kia[/name_f], [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], Marg, [name_f]Misty[/name_f], [name_f]Nadine[/name_f], [name_f]Shaniqua[/name_f], [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f]
[name_u]Aiden[/name_u], [name_m]Elvis[/name_m], [name_m]Gunnar[/name_m], [name_u]Jayden[/name_u], [name_m]Kirk[/name_m], [name_m]Lewis[/name_m], [name_m]Leon[/name_m], [name_m]Norman[/name_m], [name_m]Soloman[/name_m], [name_u]Reed[/name_u]
Most Y names, like [name_f]Yesenia[/name_f]…
I feel like this will turn into a rant but here goes:
So tired of girls named [name_u]Addison[/name_u]/addyson! It’s a boys name!!
I hate the middle name nicole/nichole
I can’t stand cre8tive spellings of overly used popular names- they look phonetically bad and just because it is spelled cre8tive does not make it unique.
I really don’t like…
[name_u]Madison[/name_u]
[name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f]
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u]
[name_u]Clancy[/name_u]
[name_f]Kadence[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Petronilla[/name_f]
[name_u]Remy[/name_u]
[name_f]Maxine[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
Additionally…
[name_f]Kyleigh[/name_f]
[name_u]Blaine[/name_u]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_u]Douglas[/name_u]
[name_f]Deirdre[/name_f]
[name_f]Dolores[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_m]Jason[/name_m]
[name_m]Wilbur[/name_m]
I second that! Really detest it.
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]/[name_f]Eve[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f]/[name_f]Ave[/name_f]. Something about them makes me so mad!
[name_f]Sian[/name_f], [name_u]Shane[/name_u], [name_f]Helga[/name_f], [name_f]Kristen[/name_f], [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f], [name_f]Marlene[/name_f], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u], [name_u]Ryan[/name_u], [name_m]Callum[/name_m] (don’t get me wrong one of my best friends was called [name_m]Callum[/name_m], but every other one I met was a jerk and it put me off the name) [name_m]Jake[/name_m]… That’s all I can think of at the moment and I don’t necessarily hate these names, they just aren’t names I would pick for my own children, either because they are associated with bad memories or I dislike the sound of them
I hate names with too many spelling variation, well it’s really only if it’s popular and many people have many different spellings. [name_f]Amy[/name_f] and [name_f]Aimee[/name_f] are fine since there is overwhelmingly more Amys in the world. But, when a name is popular in two or more spellings to the point where you always get asked how it’s spelled everything someone needs to write it. That would get really old really fast. I like them, but I think they’re unusable.
Names like:
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]/[name_f]Sara[/name_f]
[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]/[name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f],[name_f]Katelyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Caitlyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Kaitlin[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]/[name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_m]Stephen[/name_m]/[name_m]Steven[/name_m]
[name_m]Jackson[/name_m]/[name_m]Jaxon[/name_m]
[name_f]Keira[/name_f]/[name_f]Kira[/name_f]/[name_f]Kyra[/name_f]
[name_f]Francine[/name_f], [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u].
[name_f]May[/name_f]. [name_u]June[/name_u]. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. [name_f]Dot[/name_f]. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. [name_f]Edwina[/name_f]. [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]. [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. [name_m]Albert[/name_m]. [name_f]Augusta[/name_f]. [name_f]Dora[/name_f]. [name_f]Edith[/name_f]. [name_f]Edna[/name_f]. [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f]. [name_m]Eugene[/name_m]. [name_m]William[/name_m]. [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. [name_f]Geraldine[/name_f]. [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]. [name_u]June[/name_u]. [name_f]Clover[/name_f]. [name_m]Dover[/name_m]. [name_f]Martha[/name_f]. [name_f]Mildred[/name_f]. [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]. [name_m]Charles[/name_m].
I dislike old lady/old man names but I’ll make [name_m]George[/name_m] an exception because I met the most gorgeous guy called that Found it sexy ever since!
I dislike names named after States and places.
I dislike names after months, seasons and days of the week but I do love the name [name_f]Summer[/name_f]… exception for me.
I dislike girls names being used for boys and I dislike boys names being used for girls unless they have a slightly different spelling such as [name_u]Jesse[/name_u]/[name_u]Jessie[/name_u], [name_u]Danny[/name_u]/[name_u]Dani[/name_u], [name_u]Andy[/name_u]/[name_f]Andie[/name_f].
I dislike most traditional names that have been given a weird spelling to make them more ‘fresh’.
I hate the names that most celebrities are giving their kids these days. They are atrocious!
I like neither boring or weird/unusual names. I’m in the middle.
I think the only name I truly hate is when a girl goes by [name_f]Charli[/name_f]. I don’t care if it’s short for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or what. [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]‘s not even a particularly nice boys’ name… it’s horrible for a girl.
[name_f]Gertrude[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Cathy[/name_f] or [name_f]Kathy[/name_f], [name_f]Susan[/name_f], and [name_f]Cara[/name_f]. Some that I’ve recently been feeling sound horrible are [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]. Ugh!
Although I don’t like to use the word hate, these names make me feel sick in my stomach.
[name_u]James[/name_u]- classic but just so bland and I just can’t stand the sound
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]- Common but I don’t know why, seems like a name that should’ve been abandoned a century ago and given a big [name_f]DO[/name_f] NOT RESUSCITATE, just overloaded with whiny, blahh sounds
[name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u]- Tacky and no better than any other place name
Kre8ive spellings
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] because I live in Germany so it makes me think of the [name_m]German[/name_m] word for a toilet
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]. Can’t understand the obsession, it’s so 80s!
All the [name_u]Jayden[/name_u], [name_u]Brayden[/name_u], Slayden, Ironmaiden group of names
[name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u], [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f] type names
Super chav names like [name_f]Chardonnay[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] (makes me think of inappropriate sexual contact) and [name_f]Gisele[/name_f] (sounds too much like slang for male ejaculate… [name_m]Just[/name_m] why?)
[name_m]Dave[/name_m]. Such a dull name.
[name_u]Kyle[/name_u]
Shireen
English spellings of Irish names ([name_u]Shaun[/name_u], [name_m]Connor[/name_m], [name_f]Enya[/name_f] etc)
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
Anything [name_f]May[/name_f] - [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] etc. may what? [name_f]May[/name_f] be imprisoned for matricide for having been bestowed with such a horrid name?
I second [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]. Besides the overwhelming association with the HP character (whom I do actually like), I think the name is downright hideous sounding.
