What are some girl names you love but can’t use? Why can’t you use them? Mine would definitely be
Alaïa~ I love this name!! But I have [name_f]English[/name_f] family, and it doesn’t sound right in their accent☹️
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]~ [name_u]Love[/name_u] it but again I have [name_f]English[/name_f] family, and it’s quite popular over there.
[name_u]Monroe[/name_u]~ This one hurts soooo much, it just doesn’t go with my other daughters name, I would maybe use this as a middle name though.
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]~ This used to be one of my favourite names, but anything associated with Trump is a BIG no for me.
[name_u]Sasha[/name_u]~ I’ve always loved this name, but I don’t like the [name_f]English[/name_f] pronunciation.
[name_f]Lyla[/name_f]~ This was on my list a few years ago but it’s gotten SO POPULAR. I know 4 little girls names [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] or [name_f]Lila[/name_f] now.
Rose (middle name)~ I definitely would use this but it’s way too common now.
Valkyrie- always had a soft spot for this one, although i feel like my family would find it too weird.
Stevie- i love unisex names! [name_f]My[/name_f] mom hates this one😭
Mackenzie- love this name, but it’s just too common
Persophone- sounds so elegant and sweet! Most people i have told are not a fan lol
Saoirse- i LOVE this name. It is pronounced as SEER SHA ( irish). I want to use it, but im worried ill get complaints because neither my partner or i are irish
Madaline- reminds me of a sweet little girl! Too common though
Avery- my partner said no because he went to school with a brat with the same name apparently
Laurel or [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] - I love these names but my mom is names [name_f]Lauren[/name_f]!! I can’t use them as an honor name because in Judaism you honor the dead.
Saoirse - I guess I’ll have to get with an Irish girl to use this name because I don’t want to appropriate the culture but DAMN I love it so much.
Mira - my mom has very bad associations with the name
Tallulah - my best friend is named [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
Loa - I was absolutely obsessed with this name until I realized this was the name of Voodoo gods and I don’t want to appropriate the culture
Eliza - it’s my favorite name. [name_u]Ever[/name_u]. It’s gaining popularity and it makes me want to rip my eyes out. Hopefully the popularity will have gone down by the time I can adopt a little [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f].
Milana - Someone super important to me is from [name_u]Milan[/name_u] and I really wanted to honor them. But then someone was elected to office with a “wife” named [name_f]Melania[/name_f].
Violet - this was the first name I fell in love with. I was one hundred percent sure I would have a little [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. And then other people discovered it.
Orly - I love it but no one else does, and I don’t want my kid to have a hated name.
Well, that’s all for now but I’ll possibly be back with more.
Astrid - [name_f]My[/name_f] parents accent makes it unable to be useable
Any month name - the sister I don’t talk to is named after a month so it’s unfortunately always gonna be tied to her in some way by my family “we have a [name_u]June[/name_u] and a [name_f]April[/name_f]”
Elle Names - in Spanish they tend to be so weird to me and completely different which is a shame I love Elladora
And basically any name that doesn’t really sound great in Spanish or has a Spanish translation that isn’t my favorite, since it is my first language I tend to prefer Spanish names, but some [name_f]English[/name_f] names are very beautiful and it sucks not being able to use them do to pronunciation issues!
[name_f]Daffodil[/name_f] - [name_f]Adore[/name_f] this for a [name_u]December[/name_u] baby and it would be lovely to honour my husband’s father, [name_u]Narcisse[/name_u]. Only thing is I’m expecting a boy and he is going to be the final baby of mine.
[name_f]Makenna[/name_f] - It’s tacky but sweet.
Dylila - oh, I love this, but would have to go with [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], which I don’t love.
Aijan - I’m not Kazakh or Kyrgyz, so it would be weird to name my Russian and Ukrainian baby this, if you know the history.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] - too popular, but lovely none the less. Maybe [name_f]Islay[/name_f].
I know how you feel about [name_f]Violet[/name_f]😩 I used it as my daughters middle name because it’s too popular as a first, and oh my [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] is gorgeous!!
Asha - I looove this name, but I’m white and it feels like cultural appropriation if I use it. I have other names that don’t give me that feeling, that I love equally, so I’m ok with putting this one aside.
Andromeda and Ostara - They’re too “out there” for my family. [name_f]My[/name_f] parents are terrible at pronouncing names correctly, so I can’t see myself using something they would struggle with.
I have a whole list of names that I like, but they’re too common. For example, [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u]. I understand other people using them, but it’s just not my style to use something that’s well-known and common.
Margaret - Not my favorite name, but I do like it. My cousin’s middle name is Margaret though so nope (and my nickname is Mara).
Mairi - Love this name, meaning “drop of the sea” but I can’t find sibling names or middles that go with it. And again, to similar to my own name.
Thalia - Love this name too but it clashes with my top contender for a boy’s name (honor) so I can’t use it.
Maurea - Too similar to my own name
Aihe - I’m not Maori (as far as I know) so this wouldn’t fly and it’s hard for the average person to pronounce.
Andromeda - I love Andromeda nn Annie but whenever I consider it I always feel like I need to pair it with another Greek/Astronomy name and there’s not a lot that I like that sound good with Andromeda.
Thalassa - I like it, but… it’s very unusual and most people will automatically nickname her “Lassie” which I hate.
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - would seem too unusual where I live.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - too many nns for my liking.
[name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f] - I don’t feel comfortable with godess names.
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] - personal association.
[name_m]Tucker[/name_m] - rhymes with… well, you know.
[name_u]Miller[/name_u] - beer reference.
Honestly it’s very sad to say because I always thought I would name my daughter [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a family name on my maternal side it’s my Great Grandmother’s name who I heard so many amazing stories about. I fell further in love with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] after watching titanic the name just seemed so glamorous and romantic. Roses are my favourite flowers as well. I always thought I would name my daughter [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and honestly when I met my daughter’s father I was CERTAIN that would be the case. His mother was known as [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and died in really terrible circumstances. She was an incredibly brave woman as African immigrant coming to a new country so overcame numerous difficulties she’s inspirational. I definitely thought that if we were to have a daughter her name would be [name_f]Rose[/name_f] despite initial reservations that berries reassured me over. However recently I spoke to my daughter’s father and he advised that it would be too difficult for him saying his mothers name all the time which is understandable. I want our daughters name to be happy and not result in any painful memories so I’ve let go off [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]. [name_m]Long[/name_m] and silly story but it was the name of an apple tree in my yard as a kid for so long that it would sound weird on a human to my family. But I love it
[name_f]Noelle[/name_f]- I love this name for a [name_u]December[/name_u] baby, and nickname [name_f]Nell[/name_f] is one of my faves. But I have a cousin named [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], and even though she lives in a different country, it still puts me off. I love [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] as a name too (nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u]) but that would result in too much teasing.
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]-it would be seen as an honour name for someone I definitely do not want to honour
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]-It’s ethereal, romantic, and literary, but sadly I think it would sound too out of place with the names that I’m set on using ([name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_f]Edith[/name_f])
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]-unfortunately I love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] more, and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] sound too similar for sisters
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]-a old friend of mine’s favourite name, even though we don’t see each other much anymore I can’t help but feel like it would be stealing
edit: I almost forgot Guinevere! I love this name so much, like Ophelia it’s romantic and literary and just all around beautiful. But my favourite boys name is Arthur, and it’d be much too weird to have a Guinevere and Arthur.
Juno~ a close friend just used it for her baby
[name_f]Bronwyn[/name_f]~ it’s a friend’s name
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f]~ too hard to spell and pronounce with not many nickname options for a kid
[name_f]Trixie[/name_f]~ I can only think of [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] Mattel
