I absolutely love the name Isadora. It’s Greek and sounds so powerful and beautiful, and makes me think of dark purples, shades of green and gold, and the Earth. I love the sound of the name as well. But majority of people have an extremely sour taste in their mouth for it and prefer the more popular/mainstream Isabella.
I want to make this thread to see some love for odd or typically not liked names that you have a soft spot for and say what you love about it ![]()

Well, at least on Nameberry [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] is definitely loved
I have many of those. Maybe [name_m]Ludwig[/name_m]? That was my first thought
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u] for a girl! I feel like it’s so much more feminine but people on nb def prefer it on a boy. I think nn [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] makes it very girly.
At least on NB…
- All of the [name_f]Kailey[/name_f] spellings: [name_f]Kailey[/name_f], [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f], [name_f]Kaylie[/name_f], [name_f]Cailey[/name_f], Caylee…
- Other -ley names for girls (Tenley, [name_f]Kenley[/name_f], [name_u]Keeley[/name_u], [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u], Daislee, [name_u]Hadley[/name_u], [name_u]Presley[/name_u], Zayley)
- [name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f] and [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u]
- [name_m]Uriah[/name_m]
I love [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] too!

Ones that I love:
[name_f]Mildred[/name_f] - [name_f]Millie[/name_f] would be so cute and [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] and [name_u]Florence[/name_u] would be adorable!
[name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] - Don’t love it but I just don’t get all the hate it gets.
Anything that ends with -leigh/-lee/-lie/-ly - Besides [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] and other classic or well known ones, I feel like most names ending with the sound -lee are pretty disliked on Nameberry. I do agree that creatively spelling names like [name_f]Emily[/name_f] as [name_f]Emileigh[/name_f] is unnecessary unless it has a purpose or special meaning, but I feel like there are other trends that could be worse. With that being said, I secretly-not-so-secretly love [name_f]Everleigh[/name_f] and [name_f]Adelie[/name_f]

[name_m]Herbert[/name_m], [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] and [name_m]Albert[/name_m] - [name_m]Herbie[/name_m], [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] and [name_m]Albie[/name_m] would be adorable!
Poem… on a boy - I think word names can work on either gender unless it’s something like [name_u]Beau[/name_u] and [name_f]Belle[/name_f], or [name_f]Doe[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. And [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_f]Poem[/name_f] would be handsome!
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f] - I don’t like how popular they are but as they say, names are popular for a reason! And [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f] sound so sweet. And @Gia.berry’s [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] made me fall in love with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f]
[name_u]George[/name_u] & [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] for girls
[name_m]Quigley[/name_m]
[name_u]Cloud[/name_u]
[name_m]Harold[/name_m]
Rhyme
[name_u]Dream[/name_u] (for a boy)
[name_u]Amen[/name_u], sister! (or brother)
[name_f]Rosalia[/name_f] is always lose in love/like/lose and my lowest rated, but I still love her. And [name_u]Koa[/name_u] for a boy!
I’d probably say [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_u]Mallory[/name_u] as well, I don’t see them often on here
[name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] for a boy. [name_u]Lexie[/name_u] for a girl.
[name_f]Barbara[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] is beautiful! I love it.
[name_f]Clover[/name_f].
[name_m]Linus[/name_m], [name_m]Ebenezer[/name_m], [name_u]Ira[/name_u], [name_f]Clover[/name_f], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_u]Clarke[/name_u], [name_f]Maren[/name_f]
I like [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]! I’d love to meet one irl!
I love [name_f]Trixie[/name_f], in full and as a nn for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], but opinions are usually negative. I just think more people need to watch Call the Midwife
. Also I’ve noticed [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] discounted as being too harsh or masculine for a girl(?) a fair deal, but I love it!
In the real world, most of my favourites are probably too out there, but on here I don’t think I have much that would be badly recieved.
I’m also a huge fan of the -ly or -ley or -leigh names (especially on girls), including many of the [name_f]Hailey[/name_f] and [name_f]Kayley[/name_f] spelling variants! I also like the -en names (including -aden names) on boys, and -lyn names on girls (Katelyn being my favorite). I don’t think those names are all that liked here and deserve more love!
@w8src I’m glad you like the -ley names too! And I also like the -aden names! [name_m]Caden[/name_m], [name_u]Aidan[/name_u], and [name_u]Hayden[/name_u] are my favorites for boys, and I really like [name_u]Jaden[/name_u] on a girl!
@Myosotis Call the Midwife is what made me like the name [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]!
I love the name [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]! (And I actually don’t care for the name [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]— oops
)
A few favorites that I don’t see get a lot of love: Seurat (only name I’ve felt pressured into removing from my UC) [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m], [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f], [name_u]Waverly[/name_u], Eiru, [name_m]Neville[/name_m], [name_u]Declan[/name_u], [name_u]Arizona[/name_u], [name_u]Zenith[/name_u], [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f], Carrie/Carey, [name_u]Cody[/name_u], [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f], [name_f]Sinead[/name_f], [name_f]Roisin[/name_f], [name_f]Sigrid[/name_f], [name_m]Sven[/name_m], [name_f]Svetlana[/name_f], [name_m]Salvatore[/name_m], [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m], [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] (especially as a unisex name).
Also want to second: [name_f]Linda[/name_f], [name_u]Mallory[/name_u], [name_m]Clark[/name_m], [name_f]Maren[/name_f], and most -aden names (Caden, [name_u]Hayden[/name_u], [name_u]Jaiden[/name_u] are particularly pleasant to me).
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] is way better than [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], in my personal opinion! It’s easily spelled, elegant, wonderfully feminine and charming - ignore the critics, they don’t know what they’re talking about!
I love frumpy girl names. [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] is a strong contender for a future daughter but, obviously, she’s far from fashionable these days. [name_f]Hildegarde[/name_f], [name_f]Brunhilda[/name_f], [name_f]Helga[/name_f], [name_f]Walburga[/name_f], I love them all. Other people, not so much.
I also love softer, more effeminate and/or flamboyant boy names and, while I think people are slowly starting to branch out a bit and be a little more creative with their boy names, most aren’t quite ready for a little lad named Merryweather or [name_u]Paris[/name_u]!
I love [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]!
Yes! Aidan/Aiden (I can’t decide), [name_m]Cayden[/name_m], and [name_u]Hayden[/name_u] are my favorites, but I also really like [name_u]Jayden[/name_u]! And the first [name_f]Hailey[/name_f] spelling I ever encountered was [name_f]Haleigh[/name_f] as a kid! The second is Haili
Stellan and Elliott for a girl. Some classic names like Annette and Allison, I think most people think they’re pretty dated.
Archibald. Not Archie.
Angelov! Seriously underrated surname name.
Oh, and Benicio. Benicio doesn’t get enough love.
