What names do you love but won’t use? This could be because other family members have used it, it’s not useable in real life, has a different meaning in your culture etc.
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]/[name_f]Theodora[/name_f] - I love the name [name_f]Thea[/name_f] but it just doesn’t work with our surname (double barrelled, the first name is two syllables and 4 letters just like [name_f]Thea[/name_f]). I actually like [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] as an alternative but it is very clunky and old fashioned so I dont think it would work in real life.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - we almost used this for my son’s name but changed our mind last minute. We were hoping to use it for a second boy and use [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] or [name_u]Theo[/name_u] as a nickname. Two days after I had my son, DH’s cousin had a son called [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]. Now my sister is pregnant and is 90% sure she’s calling her son [name_u]Theo[/name_u].
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] - I’ve recently developed an appreciation of this name. It’s so sweet and endearing but also very classic and historical. Unfortunately it is also the name of my eldest sister, and whilst I’d love to honour her I think my other siblings would become jealous i ‘named’ my kid after her.
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - I love the sweet simplicity of this name. However, not only is it very popular at the moment, it’s also the name of one of my cousins and I’d probably face the same situation as with [name_f]Laura[/name_f].
Ayrton - Would have been named after my hero F1 driver Ayrton [name_f]Senna[/name_f]. I love how it looks written down but I’m not 100% on pronunciation so I could never expect anyone else to pronounce it correctly, plus the name has negative connotations due to [name_f]Senna[/name_f]’s untimely death.
[name_f]Jessa[/name_f]/[name_u]Jesse[/name_u]- This would have been a tribute to my grandmother, [name_u]Jessie[/name_u], the strongest woman I ever knew. I always planned on calling my first girl [name_f]Jessa[/name_f] ever since I was a teen. Unfortunately, DH’s sister called one of her daughters [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] and DH refused to let me use the name.
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] - I loved the handsome, aristocratic nature of this name but my family were very against me using this as we are working class northerners. Plus it wouldn’t work with our surname (double-barrelled, ****-[name_m]Roberts[/name_m]) as [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is [name_m]Robert[/name_m] in [name_m]German[/name_m].
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f] - I love how musical and romantic this name sounds but it is just too associated with [name_u]Valentine[/name_u]’s [name_u]Day[/name_u] and I feel it would be weird to use on anyone who wasn’t born in [name_f]February[/name_f].
