Names you love but won't be using

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]. I’m new here, this is my first post so sorry if there are already threads like this already. I’ve been watching a lot of youtube ‘names I love’ videos lately, and although I’m not confident enough to do my own video, I wanted to do a discussion of my own somewhere. So why not here. Here are 5 boy names and 5 girl names I love but wont be using and why.

Boys:

  • [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] - I love [name_m]Ben[/name_m], [name_m]Benji[/name_m] and [name_f]Jami[/name_f] as nicknames however my partner isn’t too keen on the name, it also doesn’t ‘flow’ easily with my partners surname.
  • Myloh/[name_m]Milo[/name_m] - It’s such a soft but masculine sounding name. But again my partner has said no to it and my family aren’t convinced on it either.
  • [name_m]Finnley[/name_m] - This was the name I was always going to have if I were to have a boy. It’s the name I’ve wanted and been set on since I was a child. Then I met my partner and found out one of his ex’s son (who he was close to) was a Finnlay and so that made it a no-no.
  • [name_u]James[/name_u] - Mainly because I love [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]/[name_f]Jami[/name_f] as a name, but there’s already members of the family that have [name_u]James[/name_u] and so it’s not usable.
  • [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] - Again, another name I have wanted since I was a child but my sister has claimed it - but spelling it as [name_u]Dillon[/name_u] instead.

Girls:

  • [name_u]Reese[/name_u] - It was my great grandmothers maiden name, however I have a boy cousin with the name [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] who is already named after my great grandmother.
  • [name_f]Darcie[/name_f] - It’s so elegant sounding, but my partner used to go out with a [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] and that has put me off using the name.
  • Elonwy - I’m Welsh, my partner is Scottish. He can’t pronounce the name.
  • Eirlys - Another name my partner can’t pronounce.
  • Kaida - We already have a daughter named [name_f]Caelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Caelyn[/name_f] and Kaida are a little too similar in terms of nicknames (both being [name_u]Kay[/name_u] sounding) and so I have to rule it out.

Unless I move to [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] I won’t be using [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] or unless I marry someone from Spain, Portugal or Latin [name_u]America[/name_u] I won’t be using [name_m]Tiago[/name_m].

I adore the names [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and Rosannagh, but they are unusable with my S/O’s last name, and I cannot use the names [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Kayla[/name_f], [name_m]Joshua[/name_m], [name_m]Jake[/name_m], [name_f]Amy[/name_f]/[name_f]Aimee[/name_f], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u], [name_f]Jayne[/name_f], [name_f]Ashleigh[/name_f], or [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] due to family members/past relationships.

I always loved [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], Hecate, et al. but they would give the impression of honoring my estranged mother so they’re pretty much all off the list. Though, I still sneak [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] in from time to time.

Girls
Pigeon - 1st name I ever loved but obviously not useable lol
Tetley - love this name so much but I live in the UK & it’s a well known brand of tea.
Sawyze - I like it but it does always feel like a ‘smush’ of letters sadly
Jessacake - it’s a girl from the brand Shopkins that my DD loves, shouldn’t love it but I really, really do lol

Boys
[name_m]Kristoff[/name_m] - even without the Frozen reference it’s unusable due to family connections
Sonic - so much love for this lately but the hedgehog ruins it lol
[name_u]Onyx[/name_u] - adore this but unusable thanks for mine & my DS’s Pokemon obsession

[name_f]Esperanza[/name_f]: I haved loved this name since we read A House on [name_m]Mango[/name_m] [name_m]Street[/name_m] in middle school, but it doesn’t work with our last name, which sounds like Espinoza.

[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]: Again, doesn’t work with last name.

[name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]: Really popular, and my husband’s ex girlfriend was named [name_f]Yasmin[/name_f], pronounced the same.

[name_m]Alejandro[/name_m]: Brother in law’s name

[name_m]Daniel[/name_m]: Nephew

That’s all I can think of right now.

[name_f]Thomasina[/name_f] - I hate the name [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] but love the feminine version, however, I can’t get paddy the tragic character from [name_f]Arcadia[/name_f]

Feruccio - Super badass. Means iron/ sword but it’s so Italian and no one here can pronounce it and how do you nickname that?!

[name_m]Samuel[/name_m]- Niece’s name is [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] and that would be too many Sams =(

[name_f]Claudia[/name_f]/almost every hard C or K name- sounds weird with our last name

[name_m]Gage[/name_m]- reminds hubby of a person w/nn [name_m]Gauge[/name_m] that he cant stand

Names I like but my fiance doesn’t:

[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_m]Harvey[/name_m]
[name_m]Neville[/name_m]
[name_m]Linus[/name_m]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] - I also wouldn’t use this because I’m not Jewish

All in my signature too! Luckily he likes [name_m]Casper[/name_m] and [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], my top choices. We both like unpopular classics.

So many of my favourite names I know I’ll never get to use simply because of the mismatching flow with my surname. Names that end in an ‘s’ sound just don’t work which crosses out many of my favourites, such as [name_m]Forrest[/name_m], [name_m]Amos[/name_m], [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]. It makes name searching so much more difficult. Other names that I love but can’t use are:

[name_f]Olive[/name_f] - my cousin just named her little girl [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and now it would just get confusing if I ever chose to use it.
[name_f]Heather[/name_f] - My aunt’s name. And although we’re friendly, we don’t have the closeness required for me to use her name for a baby.
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] - It’s tremendously popular where I live so it just won’t work.

[name_f]Eve[/name_f]: I love the nickname [name_f]Evie[/name_f], but this is my youngest cousin’s name.
[name_u]Arden[/name_u]: Negative association.
[name_f]Katrina[/name_f]: I think most people would just associate it with the hurricane, unfortunately.
[name_f]Dorcas[/name_f]: I’ve had such a soft spot for this name ever since I first heard it, but unfortunately it’s pretty much unusable.
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f]: They’re much too popular for me.

I have two exes named [name_m]Christian[/name_m], which I love with nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u], and I also dated a [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] (mn [name_m]Paul[/name_m]!!) and I still kinda want to use that in honor of my mom [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f], but he’ll probably give me some crap for it assuming we’re still friends when I actually have a child

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]Owen[/name_u], but I know someone called [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and he’s not a very nice person. Still love it so much though!. But if I ruled out a name because I know someone with it, there would be no names😂

Girls

[name_f]Lola[/name_f] - I love the name, but my mother has trouble pronouncing it.
[name_f]Katniss[/name_f] - Beautiful name, but obviously unusable.
[name_f]Goldie[/name_f] - I have dark hair, and I feel like you need to be blonde to use this name.
[name_f]Fatima[/name_f] - I’ve been told people will call her “Fattie” at school.
[name_u]Kenzie[/name_u] - I have a personal feud with a girl named [name_u]MacKenzie[/name_u], and I don’t think I could get past that.

Boys

[name_m]Anakin[/name_m] - I like it, but it’s so heavily associated with [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars (and has a bad reputation in the [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars universe).
[name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] - My ex boyfriend’s name.
[name_u]Parker[/name_u]/[name_m]Liam[/name_m]/[name_m]Travis[/name_m] - All names of my cousins.
[name_m]Horatio[/name_m] - Too old-fashioned, and too associated with [name_m]Hamlet[/name_m].
[name_m]Santiago[/name_m] - I think it’s more of a Latin name, and I’m not Latino.
