Names you want to love

Hello Berries,

I’m not sure whether this thread already exists or not but I couldn’t find one so I decided to make one. So I was just wondering if any of you had names that you wanted to like but just couldn’t bring yourself to do so? Here are some of mine:

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]
[name_f]Gertrude[/name_f]
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]

[name_m]Adam[/name_m]
[name_m]Adrian[/name_m]
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Eric[/name_m]
[name_m]Frederic[/name_m]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]

Maybe on day I’ll change my mind on at least one of these and start to love it. What are your ‘want to love’ names?

Have fun posting, [name_f]Vicki[/name_f]

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - I [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] the name [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], but it’s too short for a full name [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is the only one I can think of that’s doable with my accent but… I don’t like it. Ugh.

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] - it’s cute, I want to love it… but I can’t.

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]/[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]/[name_f]Stella[/name_f] - Can’t stand these names, but I don’t know why. I don’t want to hate them, though :frowning:

[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f] are some of mine too! It’s so annoying, I want to like them but I just don’t.

Most of the names I want to love but can’t are names my bf’s loves or names that would honour people I love-shame I just don’t love their names. These include [name_m]Elvis[/name_m]/[name_m]Alvis[/name_m], [name_f]Brenda[/name_f], [name_m]Edward[/name_m], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Edwin[/name_m], [name_m]Edison[/name_m], [name_f]Rose[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosa[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f].

[name_f]Elysia[/name_f]
[name_f]Alcyone[/name_f]- I have it on my list, and used to love it, but I was saying it wrong. (Oops)
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]- [name_m]Long[/name_m] story why I find it difficult to like this
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]

[name_u]River[/name_u] (for a boy)- I dislike it for a girl, because of the [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who character, but I really want to try and like it for a boy.
[name_m]Cyprian[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]- Another one ruined by a character

Augustus/Augusta/Gus- I really dislike the Gus sound which somehow seems emphasised in these. But I love August.
And a few family names, for both girls and boys.

There may be more I can’t think of atm.

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] all come to mind.

I adore the nickname [name_u]Penny[/name_u] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] suits my style but I just can’t get into it! [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] sounds down right weird with my nasally accent. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is sort of similar to [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] but not at bad.

[name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] - it works nicely with my names, but I can’t commit to it
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] - also works perfectly with my names, but I can’t get behind
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] - my grandmother’s name, so I feel like I should adore it, but I dont
[name_f]Kitty[/name_f]/[name_f]Dolly[/name_f]/[name_f]Birdie[/name_f] - too cute for me, more of a pet name.
[name_f]Posy[/name_f] - I love this but there’s too many negative comments for me to be ok with it
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] - I dislike the sound of this one, but it looks gorgeous
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] - see [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - very much my style but I don’t feel attracted to it
[name_f]Claudia[/name_f] - I should adore this, but it just reminds me of the witch in one of my favourite movies as a kid
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] - I vastly prefer [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or [name_f]Emily[/name_f], but I’m not sure why
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] - reminds me of the mum from Beetlejuice too much
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] - I dislike the Marg sound.
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Millie[/name_f] to the full name
[name_f]Constance[/name_f] - too stodgy for me to use

there aren’t too many for boys though

Well I’m glad I’m not the only one!

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] come to mind.

[name_f]Alba[/name_f] for me. I so wanted to use it for DD2 as we have strong Scottish connections but I just don’t like how it sounds when I say it. I was gutted I had to give it up.

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband has a massive crush on the name [name_m]Milo[/name_m]. When we found out our first was a girl, he was so crushed because he wanted a little [name_m]Milo[/name_m]. I feel like I should like it and I can see the appeal but I’m not sure why I don’t. I’ve tried to like it because if we ever have a boy, my husband would love to use it but I haven’t got anywhere with it. I don’t mind it so much in the middle though, so maybe we could compromise.

I’ll admit I don’t love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] as much as I want to. In theory it’s perfect;

  • all-round Celtic heritage; the original Cordeilla is in Arthurian [name_u]Legend[/name_u] and was used across [name_f]England[/name_f]/[name_m]Wales[/name_m]/[name_f]Scotland[/name_f]/[name_f]Ireland[/name_f] hundreds and hundreds of years ago; I feel fundamentally connected to my entirely-Celtic roots.
  • it means ‘‘daughter of the sea’’ which is beautifully poetic and glorious, probably everything I’d look for in a meaning. It reminds me of growing up around the [name_u]North[/name_u] Sea and the Irish [name_f]Channel[/name_f] and the mystery of the north Atlantic. I do tend to seek out water related names too.
  • IT’S SHAKESPEAREAN! He even adapted it from it’s original Celtic form into [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] main criteria for a lot of the time.
  • it’s so underused and beautiful, a great alternative to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] which are on my list but possibly too popular.

Anyway, it’s on my list of middle names. I’d love to use it there. For a first name though, I see it as kinda pretentious? Like, too flowery and knowingly beautiful? I don’t know, maybe I’m ridiculous. Part of me dislikes how ‘Nameberry’ it is which is a silly thing to dislike in the first place! I’m slightly preferring [name_f]Delia[/name_f] as a fn right now.

These are names that work very well with our daughters but I just can’t love them…
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - [name_u]Penny[/name_u] ruins it for me
[name_f]Camille[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Clemence[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]

[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_m]Wyatt[/name_m]
[name_m]Augustus[/name_m]

II feel this way a lot.

[name_f]Daniella[/name_f]: It’s just my style. I love feminizations, I love [name_f]Gabriela[/name_f], and I like the [name_f]Ella[/name_f] names, but [name_f]Daniella[/name_f] just doesn’t appeal to me.

[name_f]Lily[/name_f]: I love [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but an awful cat ruined [name_f]Lily[/name_f] for me. I should like [name_f]Lily[/name_f], but I just don’t.

[name_f]September[/name_f], [name_u]January[/name_u], February, [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]July[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u]: I like time an day names. I love all the other months as names. I like [name_f]May[/name_f] spelled as [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. But for some reason, I just can’t find myself liking this ones.

[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]/[name_f]Ellen[/name_f]: [name_m]Just[/name_m] nms, even thought I adore [name_f]Ella[/name_f].

[name_f]Bella[/name_f]: I love [name_f]Annabella[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabella[/name_f], [name_f]Adabella[/name_f]. Maybe it’s Twilight, or maybe it’s just that almost all the Bellas I met were dogs, but I can’t really enjoy Bells as much as I want.

[name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f]: Looks beauiful but all I hear is “Carrot when”. Shame, I love it on paper, and I want ti love [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f].

I’m tired, I will think of more when later.

For a girl: [name_u]Riley[/name_u].

For a boy: [name_m]Craig[/name_m].

Can’t stand either of them, and i totally want to get the appeal but i just don’t! I know quite a few girls named [name_u]Riley[/name_u] as well, and every time i hear it, it just grates on my nerves.

Names I want to love but don’t:

Girls
[name_f]Magda[/name_f]
[name_f]Annaliese[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgeanna[/name_f]
[name_u]Emory[/name_u]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] names all of them ([name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], etc)
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_u]Reece[/name_u]
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f]

Boys
[name_u]August[/name_u]/[name_m]Augustus[/name_m]/[name_m]Augusten[/name_m]/[name_m]Augustine[/name_m]
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
[name_u]Max[/name_u]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Adrian[/name_m]
[name_m]Jason[/name_m]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
