I am desperate need of some help. I have a character who is blind. [name]Don[/name]‘t laugh, but he’s the private bodyguard of a small group of women who are in the business of escorting. He’s not a huge get in your face type. He’s around 6’ tall…190-200 pounds…in good shape. He is deadly in the sense of he’s highly skilled in martial arts and weapons. He’s American, 35ish, brownish hair, greenish/blue eyes, well-groomed, but has a beard. He’s a heavy coffee drinker…never been in love…he’s on the quiet side. His family; parents and younger brother died in a house fire when he was in his early twenties. He feels guilty because he wasn’t there. He is not blind because of an accident but because of a medical condition he inherited from his Mother.
Names I’m considering
[name]Lee[/name] [name]Coleman[/name] (need help with middle name)
[name]Aaron[/name] Trelawney (need help with middle name)
[name]Simon[/name] (need help with middle name and last name. I like the meaning behind the name, but if I use it I need a really strong masculine last name because I always associate the name [name]Simon[/name] as being a little nerdy.
Any other suggestions…full names or names that go with the surnames I’ve picked.
Other names to add to the list:
[name]Lewis[/name] nn [name]Lew[/name], [name]Callum[/name], [name]Roy[/name], [name]Patrick[/name], [name]Jason[/name]
Maybe its too cliche but my first thought was [name]Claudius[/name]. Maybe his mother was bitter about her inevitable blindness. Last names: [name]Knight[/name], [name]Butler[/name], [name]Finch[/name], [name]Carney[/name], Kaufman, Sharpe, Burks,
[name]Claudius[/name]. Ummm…not sure about that one. I’ll have to let it slide off the tongue a while and see. As for the Mother being bitter, I haven’t really thought about how the Mother felt about losing her sight. I know her son though, and he’s accepted it and has not let it stop him from doing what he wants.
Oops. I just realized I got the meanings of [name]Claudius[/name] & [name]Cecil[/name] mixed up. So I guess it would be [name]Cecil[/name] that would be cliche.
Thank you for the suggestions. [name]Fred[/name] sounds too geriatric. And, [name]Bruno[/name] too mob like. I do like [name]Lee[/name], but I can’t use [name]Eric[/name] as I’ve used it in a previous book.
O.k., I’ve added a few names. This is how the list looks now:
[name]Chad[/name], [name]Ben[/name], [name]Lewis[/name] nn [name]Lew[/name], [name]Callum[/name], [name]Lee[/name], [name]Aaron[/name], [name]Simon[/name], [name]Roy[/name], [name]Tobias[/name], [name]Vance[/name], [name]Graham[/name], [name]Patrick[/name], [name]Jason[/name], [name]Nolan[/name]
[name]Chad[/name] - To me it doesn’t sound grown up enough…
[name]Ben[/name] - Maybe [name]Benjamin[/name] would work for this character better then [name]Ben[/name].
[name]Lewis[/name] - I like it spelled [name]Louis[/name] for a first name.
[name]Callum[/name] - Not a fan .
[name]Lee[/name] - I like this ! Maybe [name]Edward[/name] [name]Lee[/name] or [name]Lee[/name] [name]Edmunds[/name]?
[name]Aaron[/name] - To me it sounds kinda boy bandish
[name]Simon[/name] - [name]Simon[/name] [name]Lee[/name]?
[name]Roy[/name] - [name]Roy[/name]… hmm.
[name]Tobias[/name] - [name]Toby[/name] for short?
[name]Vance[/name] - As in AdVANCE…
[name]Graham[/name] - [name]Graham[/name] crackers.
[name]Patrick[/name]- Not bad.
[name]Jason[/name] - Not horrible.
[name]Nolan[/name] - Not a fan.
Others maybe:
[name]Lee[/name] [name]Edmund[/name]
[name]Tobias[/name] ([name]Toby[/name]) [name]Roy[/name] or [name]Richard[/name]
Degan [name]Smith[/name]
[name]Bradley[/name] [name]Connor[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Vance[/name]
[name]William[/name] ([name]Bill[/name]) [name]Lewis[/name]
[name]Bently[/name] [name]James[/name]
I think you’re right about [name]Chad[/name] and [name]Ben[/name]…to youngish for lack of a better word.
Haha about the graham crackers. LOL And advance. LOL
[name]Lee[/name] was my very first thought.
What about…
[name]James[/name] nn [name]Jamie[/name] [name]Hedley[/name]… maybe sounds to rockbandish
[name]Kyle[/name] [name]Mercer[/name]…maybe too youngish too?
What about [name]Michael[/name]?
[name]Steven[/name] [name]Wolfe[/name]
[name]Nathan[/name] would be perfect for this character, but my sister boyfriend’s name is [name]Nathan[/name] and he annoys me to no end.
[name]Gregory[/name]
[name]Adam[/name]
[name]Brian[/name]
[name]Todd[/name]…I like it
[name]Gary[/name]
[name]Shane[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name] nn [name]Sam[/name]
[name]Troy[/name]
[name]Adrian[/name]
[name]Lance[/name]
[name]Clint[/name]
[name]Forbes[/name]…kinda neat
[name]Neil[/name]
[name]Dean[/name]
[name]Guy[/name]
[name]Garrett[/name]
[name]Gareth[/name]
[name]Dalton[/name]…I like it…it’s mysterious
[name]Rex[/name]
[name]Luther[/name]…I like it, he could be named after his Grandfather.
I like the ideas of [name]Callum[/name], [name]Patrick[/name], [name]Adam[/name], [name]Samuel[/name], and [name]Graham[/name] for him. My first thought was [name]August[/name], nn Auggie, 100% because of the TV show Covert Affairs (have you seen it before?). I definitely wouldn’t use [name]August[/name] because of that, because that Auggie is a [name]CIA[/name] operative, and he’s blind. Now he works as a tech operator in the [name]CIA[/name], and sometimes goes out into the field. Your character reminded me of him, especially since Auggie in the show has come to terms with his blindness very well.
I’ve written for a few blind characters, my most recent being a [name]Bailey[/name]–I think [name]Bailey[/name] could suit your guy really well.
What about:
[name]Elias[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]/[name]Quincy[/name]
[name]Joseph[/name] ([name]Joe[/name] just seems to fit him really well)
[name]Nathan[/name]/[name]Nate[/name]
[name]Riley[/name]
[name]Andrew[/name]
[name]Peter[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] ([name]Ted[/name]?)
[name]Ashton[/name]/[name]Ash[/name]/[name]Ashley[/name]?
[name]Cole[/name]/[name]Nicholas[/name]
I’ve heard of Covert Affairs, but I’ve never watched it. I don’t watch a lot of t.v… Actually, I prefer bailey(s) in a glass. LOL!
[name]Elias[/name]…I like very much.
[name]Quinn[/name]…I am a huge [name]Dexter[/name] fan and I always think [name]Joey[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] when I hear the name [name]Quinn[/name].
[name]Joseph[/name] nn [name]Joe[/name]…it could work
[name]Nathan[/name]/[name]Nate[/name]…my whole sister’s boyfriend thing. LOL
[name]Riley[/name]…not feeling it.
[name]Andrew[/name]…could work, but I hate the nickmane [name]Andy[/name]. [name]Drew[/name] I don;t mind, but prefer it on a girl.
[name]Peter[/name]…I’m not feeling it.
[name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Ted[/name]…not feeling it either.
[name]Ashton[/name]…I can’t think of that name without getting an image of [name]Ashton[/name] Kutcher’s [name]Kelso[/name] character out of my head…way to inmature for my character.
[name]Cole[/name]/[name]Nicholas[/name]…like both names, but am not feeling them.
