[name_m]Hi[/name_m], guys, I need your help naming/renaming a fictional, fantasy kingdom I’ve been having problems with. I already posted a similar question once, but I just find naming fantasy countries so difficult… :-?
Genre of [name_u]Story[/name_u]: [name_f]Fantasy[/name_f]
Time Period/Location: Around late 1600, early 1700, other world than [name_f]Earth[/name_f]
Brief Plot: roughly it’s about two neighbor kingdoms that have been at war for nearly a decade. They hate each other, each for different reasons. The plot revolves around the race to find a powerful, ancient magical relic that could tip the balance of the war.
Thing Description: It’s one of the oldest kingdoms in this world, considered the cradle of modern society for it influenced a huge part of the world’s culture. It no longer exists; lost after a war. Their religion was based on nature, with no particular gods; they hold science, knowledge and magicians in high regard. Their language is vaguely based on Spanish, Italian and Greek. They believed slavery was needed for the work of their society, but eventually began abolishing it in the decades before its fall. Aside from that, they were highly advanced for their time, were adept warriors and great sailors. Their weather is hot to template, and the northern sea is covered in perpetual mist. The MC is from this kingdom, so it’s pretty important for the story.
Already Considered (if relevant): It’s currently named Anceres and the language Ancrés, but I’m not convinced with either.
I’m also considering: Argea, Krea, Sioph, Erges/Arges, Vels (sound too much like [name_m]Wales[/name_m]), and Esor. What do you think of these names? Can you suggest others?
[name_m]Don[/name_m]’t Suggest These Names: Please don’t suggest anything that’s nearly impossible to pronounce.
Anything else?: I would like something that sounds old, some Latin/Greek root maybe, but really, anything is appreciated.
Thanks for your help!
