Naming a girl after her grandpa using feminized version of the name

4 Q’s:
1-What do you think of using the mn [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] to honor a grandfather (awesome man that passed away) named [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]? Also her fathers name but he goes by his mn. Or is that cheesy? I kind of think it’s cool but wondered others thoughts.
2-I also love the first name [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] for a girl, named after a great grandfather with mn [name_u]Sidney[/name_u]. So it’s a family name as well. Is [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] ok spelling for a girl, or does it need to be [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] (which I dislike as it looks trendy and made up).
3-3 of our 4 kids would be named after family, except my oldest daughter who just has two names that I picked b/c I loved them. Does this matter? My brother and sister were both named after family, and I was the only one that wasn’t and it never really bothered me. I actually never thought about it much til now. Thoughts?
4-I’m thinking:
[name_u]Sidney[/name_u] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]

Which do you prefer?

[name_f]Sienna[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - it’s enough of an honouring name for your great-grandfather just with the ‘[name_u]Si[/name_u]-’, in my opinion, but I’m an obscure connections kind of gal  Also, I really dislike [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] for a boy or a girl - sorry!

  1. I think it’s very sweet and not cheesy at all. I think it’s a great way to honor family.
  2. I prefer [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] as well.
  3. I think she’ll be fine, like you were never bothered. It’s her identity.
  4. I prefer [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] as I feel it has slightly better flow but [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is lovely too  Congrats!

I don’t think [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] after a [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is cheesy at all. And I don’t think it matters that your 1st is the only one not named after someone–you can tell her you were selfish with her and wanted to name her all yourself.

I slightly prefer [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] to [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], but who cares which I prefer.

I love [name_u]Sidney[/name_u], and [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is lovely! I like sienna, too…I think I like sienna a little more paired with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], it feels less clunky to me.

I don’t think it is a huge deal to have 3 out of 4 kids named after family. If your oldest daughter ever has an issue with it, you can let her know that you were the only one in your family without a “family name”, and it something that you share (so indirectly, she is kind of named after you, right? haha). You gave her two names you loved, and that should matter most.

straight up as it is one incredible name!

[name_u]Sidney[/name_u] is OK, but way overused in schools today. For some reason, it has a mean girl connotation to me.

[name_f]Siena[/name_f] is weak sounding to me, pale and sepia-toned.

I think [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is perfect. I prefer the same spelling as you & I like [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] better than [name_f]Sienna[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is a great name. I don’t care for [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] or [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] personally, but I think either would work with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] as a middle name. As for your last question, I’m not sure. I worry about this myself sometimes. I guess if it never bothered you that your siblings have family names and you don’t, there’s a good chance your kid probably won’t care either.

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is great way to honor a [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]. I don’t see any wrong into naming a girl after a male.

I seem to be the exception in this discussion, that I prefer [name_u]Sydney[/name_u], for me personally it’s [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] that looks made-up, but if you love [name_u]Sidney[/name_u], go for it.

I don’t think it matter much that three out of four are named after someone. Of my siblings, the only one who’s named after someone is my sister, and it never bothered me that I’m not named after anyone … Okay, that’s a reserved situation x)

I prefer [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name.

I don’t really like [name_u]Sidney[/name_u], but I adore [name_f]Sienna[/name_f]! [name_m]Both[/name_m] sound really nice with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], and it’s a lovely way of honoring him either way

Using [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] to honor a [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] doesn’t seem cheesy at all! I have [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] as a middle on my list because my dad’s middle name is [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] My favorite of your combos is [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. I’m not a fan of [name_u]Sidney[/name_u].
