Naming Buddy

Hey Everyone!

So this was done a few years ago, and it worked out really well, so I thought we could try it again. You know how sometimes you don’t want to post a whole post, but you just want someone’s opinion on names, and have someone you can have a conversation about names with? Well, how this will work, is post some a tiny bit about yourself and then some of your favourite names / your style of naming here, and then I will pair people based on their naming styles. You can then private message that person. It’s just someone to bounce names off of. Also, if you want more than 1 partner, feel free to say so and I can pair you with 2 or however many you like. If you don’t like the person I pair you with, or they don’t respond, feel free to just message me or someone else who has already posted.

So here’s a sample post (I’ll go first):

I’m 19, nowhere close to having a child, but I can dream about it and names.
My favourite names are currently [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Alexa[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], & [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] for girls and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] & [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (which have been my favourites for years) for boys.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here!

I’m 23 and Engaged. We’re not trying yet, but we’re getting closer to when we can.

I’ll take as many partners that want to do it  I love names and love when people talk to me about them, who dont find me weird.

Sounds fun! I’m 26, mom to two fun-loving boys. Still love and enjoy looking at all the naming possibilities, though we are not currently trying for #3.

I am not yet a mom, but dream of being one in the next few years. I am currently 24 and like a variety of names but often sort them into sibsets, currently enjoying a more classic bunch. I have always loved names and would love to have more people to discuss with!

I have created a GROUP called [name_u]BABY[/name_u] NAME DREAMERS where I would love to have a group like this to bounce names off of eachother! Please join if you’re interested

I’m not expecting or ttc, but I definitely would like to have kids in the future. I love unisex names for girls, and I really try to honor family members. My favorites for girls are [name_u]Arden[/name_u], [name_u]Tatum[/name_u], [name_u]Blaire[/name_u], [name_f]Greer[/name_f], [name_u]Sloan[/name_u], [name_u]Hollis[/name_u], and [name_f]Cambrey[/name_f] right now. For boys, I’m stuck on [name_m]Levi[/name_m], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], [name_m]Hayes[/name_m], [name_m]Silas[/name_m], and [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m].

Interested in your group, and would really like to know where it is or how to be in it? Thank you. @sarastarnamenerd

Hey guys, so I’m going to give people a little bit more time to join if they want too, then I’ll pair us up. We all have different styles, and I can make 1 group work, but then not so sure about the other, so I’m hoping for a few more people!

I am 23, currently single and far away from real baby, hopefully in a several years. I love names with international and romantic feel, preferably longer as I want many nickname possibilities. I love many themes. Astronomical, literature, historical, classical, medieval, whimsical and mythological names are my favourite, but I don’t want anything too weird -at least not as the first name. I love some popular names as well, but I try to pair them with more unusual middles. Some of my favourites: [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], [name_f]Violetta[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m].

So the pairs are:

Brigx & c@29

Mommamcguire & sarastarnamenerd

Racheltheworm15 & namenerd2000

For those of you interested in joining the GROUP called [name_u]BABY[/name_u] NAME DREAMERS:

In your profile there should be a section called groups. There probably aren’t any yet so you can click to join a group. There you should see the one called baby name dreamers.

If you’d prefer, you can click on my name to get to my profile and its listed under my groups! Let me know if you need more help!

Can I do it too, or am I too late? I love old books (think [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u]) so my naming style often comes from that. Currently my top five favorite girls’ names are: [name_f]Angeliki[/name_f], [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] “[name_f]Nia[/name_f]”, [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] “[name_f]Mari[/name_f]”, [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], and all the rest of the names in my signature.

For boys, I like longer names: [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] “[name_m]Tad[/name_m]”, [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Graham[/name_m]/[name_m]Graeme[/name_m], and …well, [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. Not for real life, just a guilty pleasure.

I love researching names - their meanings, histories, pronunciations and popularities. I love finding out about names that are used in different cultures. If anyone is interested in having fact-based discussions about names feel free to send me a PM.

Hey! Can I also join a group. I’m 24 and from [name_u]Sweden[/name_u]. No babies in the near future here. But I love names. I also write stories, have a few unfinished because haven’t find the right names for the characters. My current name crushes right now are:

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I’m a teenberry from the USA, and my favorite names change all the time, but some that have stuck with me are [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]; and [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m], [name_u]Skyler[/name_u], [name_m]Bridger[/name_m], and [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] for boys. I sometimes have crushes on trendier names, though the ones that usually end up sticking with me are more classic (there are some exceptions of course).

[name_m]Hi[/name_m],
Is it too late to be in a group or pair?
I’m 21 from the US. I just love collecting names. My favorite names tend to lean toward familiar in sound, but uncommon in use. Though, sometimes trendy names catch my attention, too. I also like names that mean something, and have nickname potential. My favorites shuffle around a bit, but some long-timers for girls are: [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], [name_f]Isela[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f], [name_f]Josette[/name_f], [name_f]Indira[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]. I’m also really crushing on [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] right now. Boy favorites: [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m], [name_m]Milas[/name_m], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_m]Ivor[/name_m], [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_m]Desmond[/name_m], [name_m]Mateo[/name_m].

Not too late guys! I’ll add you to groups / make pairs ASAP! But I’m on the train right now so it’s too hard to do it.

I’m nearly 20 years old and studying journalism in college currently, so I’m quite far away from TTC or expecting, but I’ve loved names since I was roughly 10.

My favourite names are a little all over the place at the moment, I’m still organizing my lists, but I am a massive fan of Downton Abbey and that generally reflects my naming style, so I’d say Edwardian/Post War era England is where my style lays. Edith, Florence, George, Sybil, Albert, etc. I also adore flower names like Marigold and Bluebell, and Irish choices like Aoife, Allen, Aisling and Darragh/Daire.

I also obsessively track popularity and data, particularly from England and Wales, because my style is heavily influenced by both countries, due to my family being nearly entirely from there (my mum is a first generation Canadian), and I’m really into family history. I adore literature as well, Jane Austen being my favourite, and cutesy nicknames as firsts. I’m a big believer in naming your child the name you intend to call them, why give them the beautiful Eleanor, only to contract it to the just as beautiful Elsie?

I’d also happily have two name buddies if it works out that way.

Can’t wait to see who I’m paired with!

I’d love to join! I’m 27, recently married but we aren’t going to try for any babies for a few years. My current favorites for girls: [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Calista[/name_f], [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u] (for a middle), [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
My current favorites for boys: [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Declan[/name_m], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_m]Walter[/name_m], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m].

I generally like names with a nickname because I’m a huge nickname person and if a child of mine doesn’t have a go-to nickname I know I will call them all kinds of ridiculous things. =) I obsessively look at Social Security data for the US and try to predict future popularity. My goal is to find a name that has been used since 1880 (when the records start) or at least early 20th century but isn’t currently in the top 100 (ideally less popular). My new married last name is one syllable so that has also affected the names that I consider usable because I don’t care for a one-syllable first name paired with a one-syllable last name.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]!
I’m a 19 year old student and am studying to become a teacher. I’m very far away from having kids of my own but I really enjoy thinking about names for the future.

My favourites tend to fall into the category of “classic but unusual” and I love names that can be shortened to nicknames.

Some of my long-time favourites for girls include [name_f]Serena[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] & [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. My favourites for guys include [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] & [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m].

I’m 19, far from having kids, but ever since my baby sister was born, I’ve loved talking about names.
I love classic, vintage, victorian/edwardian names the most; not a big fan of surnames as first names (unless they’ve been used for centuries, like Elliott, Beckett or Bennett), unisex or word names.
Most of my favourites are in my signature, others are Ada, Edmund (love Ed- names), Henry, Oscar, Clara, Theo, Alice, Matilda (my sister’s name), Jane, Cordelia, Lydia, Emma, Georgiana and some more “European” names such as Eulalia, Lucinda, Leonor and Aurelia
I also quite like researching name usage, popularity, etc. (hell, I’ve gone through 100 years of E&W data, double checking posts, etc. just to see how popular Elliott, Elliot, Eliot and Eliott were in the 19th/20th century, only because I was curious)
I’d love to be paired up with a two or more people. Oh and thank you for doing this
