So, my in law was called [name]Winston[/name] [name]Salinger[/name] Kley - an awesome middle name, I know -, and he was a great man, so my husband and I are thinking about naming our son after him. My question is, could he be named [name]Winston[/name] [name]Salinger[/name] Kley II even if the first is dead?
No. Being a [name]Jr[/name] would imply that the name belongs to his father. I think it would cause some confusion since that is not your husband’s name. You could just name him the same name (no suffix), or you could reverse them and do [name]Salinger[/name] [name]Winston[/name] Kley. Or just use the first name or middle name in your son’s name.
[name]Winston[/name] [name]Salinger[/name] Kley II would be the appropriate usage if he is named after someone else. Technically -> I think (don’t hold me to this I did an online search to confirm what I think was true so… well you know how that goes.)
It would never really be relevant in every day life and the II would only show up on official documents.
I really like the idea and think it’s sweet. And it’s a great name.
To be honest I don’t think you need to faff about with the whole ‘second’ and ‘junior’ thing. [name]Just[/name] calling him [name]Winston[/name] [name]Salinger[/name] Kley would be enough surely? Like the above person said, the whole ‘second’ part wouldn’t be relevant in every day life and you and your family would know the significance of the name anyway
EDIT: I completely misread the question. Yes, your son could be Winston Salinger II. He’s the second in a direct paternal line to bear the name, so it is correct.
Thanks you guys, we know it’s not necessary, but we kind of like the idea of having a II lol, so my question is basically if it is posibble…
It’s actually correct. If he’s named after his father, he’s a junior, but if it skips a generation, he’s a II.
This makes the most sense to me. [name]Add[/name] the II if you want. Be a good name with special meaning.
What a fantastic name! Like blade said the II is the correct way to do it as [name]Junior[/name] would imply that it is his fathers name
I can’t contribute to the II/[name]Jr[/name]. discussion, but I definitely think you should go for it and name your son [name]Winston[/name] [name]Salinger[/name] - a great name he’ll surely be proud of!
