Naming twins

I would definitely be more inclined to follow a subtle theme (though I dislike obvious themes with twins, with a guilty pleasure exception of [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Celia[/name]). I mostly try and stop my combos following a theme normally, so that any future children won’t be left out of it. I also like the idea of giving the ‘second twin’ a name which begins with an initial higher in the alphabet than the first twin’s, so that the second twin may get called first more often. The combos below are very similar to the combos I’d consider for an individual child, however:

G/G: [name]Verity[/name] [name]Rachel[/name] and [name]Annora[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name] (both virtue names, with family middles)
B/G: [name]Annora[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name] and [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Henry[/name] nn [name]Annie[/name] and [name]Eddie[/name] (both unusual ways to get to popular nns, with very classic, family middles)
B/B: [name]Wilbur[/name] [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Henry[/name] nn [name]Will[/name] and [name]Eddie[/name] (both unusual ways to get to popular nns, both end with similar sounds, both with classic, family middles). Or possibly [name]August[/name] [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Ivan[/name] [name]Charles[/name] nn [name]Gus[/name] and [name]Ike[/name], just because it’s adorable!

If I had twin XD… Lol. I would prob change the names a bit… Maybe just the middle names would be similar but on the other hand if I loved the names I picked out, I might just give them names I already loved and had “picked” out.

Gosh, Good luck! Oh, and if you have any ideas on names, I will comment!

I do think i’d put a bit more thought into it. It’d be even more important to me for them to go well together, since they will constantly be said together. For instance, [name]Susannah[/name] and [name]Margaret[/name] are perfectly dear sister names, but as twins they’d be SusannahandMargaret, and I think i’d be more likely that someone would call them S&M!

Beyond considerations like that, it’d be more important to me that they be equal, but distinct. For instance, if one gets a nickname, they both do. And I’d like different beginning and ending sounds. With that in mind, my favorites:

B/B: [name]Judah[/name] and [name]Asher[/name]
B/G: [name]Judah[/name] and [name]Rose[/name]
G/G: [name]Silvie[/name] and [name]Rose[/name] ([name]Sissy[/name] and Roo! Couldn’t you just die?! Only when they were very small, of course)

We are doing this now (expecting G/B twinsmin [name]June[/name]) and we just made lists of names we liked and crossed them off as we went. Our daugter’s middle name will be [name]Irene[/name] after my beloved grandmother and I looked for another name that meant peace or something similar for our son’s middle name but came up empty. That’s about as close to themey as I could get!

[name]Fred[/name] or [name]Frederick[/name] means peace. Maybe you could do a name that means a symbol of peace. Like [name]Oliver[/name] or [name]Jonah[/name].

Thanks for the suggestions. I did find a few names that had similar meanings, but decided to go with a family name instead, which I suppose is in keeping with the theme!

I know that this is a hypothetical situation but for me, the names of any multiples would be chosen based around how many kids I’d already had. I have a list of [name]James[/name] that I love and intend to use and although I feel they work as a sibset, I don’t know how I like them as twins. I know that sounds crazy…!!

For girl/girl twins, I like [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Arizona[/name] [name]Louise[/name] and [name]Avery[/name] [name]Nancy[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]. I think that the sassy sound of [name]Ruby[/name] is perfectly anchored by the lyrical sound of [name]Avery[/name]. Also, both would have a family and a sentimental middle name so they are well-balanced.

For a boy/boy set, I like [name]Owen[/name] [name]Christopher[/name] [name]Rex[/name] and [name]Felix[/name] [name]Vincent[/name] [name]Charles[/name]. [name]Owen[/name]'s strength and [name]Felix[/name]'s cheery nature com

For a boy/girl set, I really like [name]Owen[/name] [name]Christopher[/name] [name]Rex[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Pamela[/name] [name]May[/name]. [name]Pamela[/name] is my Mum’s name and [name]Christopher[/name] is my uncle/godfather so this pairing means a lot to me.

Whatever happens, I know that any kids I am lucky enough to have will be strong-willed, self-assured and place family in the highest of regard. Above all, I wish they’d be happy.

I would not know what to do! I always joked that if I had BB twins I would name them Kar and [name]Van[/name] (Kar from Bulletproof Monk and [name]Van[/name] because i really do like it), but I would never actually do that! I like the idea of having the same number of letters, or the same background. Possibly would try to find two similar meanings. My nieces are identical twins, named [name]Danielle[/name] and [name]Leighton[/name]. [name]Both[/name] 8 letters, and also named for people. My mm is [name]Danielle[/name] and their father’s mm is [name]Lee[/name].

I’ve been thinking about this recently as my sister has agreed to surrogate twins for us (we want a large fam, but it’s still TBD if I can carry a baby at all). I could not resist myself to doing some theme!

G/B: [name]Beatrix[/name] and [name]Baxter[/name] I love both names with our X lastnames so so much I could not pass it up!!
G/G: something like [name]Vera[/name] & [name]Etta[/name], [name]Alice[/name] & [name]Lilac[/name], [name]Inez[/name] & [name]Zola[/name], [name]Esther[/name] & [name]Naomi[/name], Lior & Agam
B/B: [name]Alistair[/name] & [name]Wallace[/name], [name]Judah[/name] & [name]Avram[/name], [name]Warren[/name] & [name]Calvin[/name], [name]August[/name] & [name]Montgomery[/name]

I’d love twins!

Cheers!

When thinking about twins I would use the names I have now, or just slightly tweek them. Im pretty weird about sibling matching names as it is, and twins wouldn’t change that much. I would consider using a theme for their middle names (ie both nature, or unisex etc) or maybe make the middle names start with the same letter. Another thing I would possibly consider is using reverse initials (ie one as initials AP & and other has PA).

Current Favorites-
G/G- [name]Aria[/name] [name]Daphne[/name] & [name]Piper[/name] [name]Delilah[/name] (same middle initial)
B/G- [name]Solomon[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name] & [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name] (bird theme middle names)
B/B- [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] & [name]Solomon[/name] [name]Elijah[/name] (reverse initials)

Well, I can tell you what my parents did.

They were told they were having one baby. [name]One[/name] huge baby. Then, to everyone’s shock, identical twin girls were born instead (me and my sister). They had the name [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] picked out (the only names they truly loved… you know how hard it is to compromise!). So they split the name… one of us got [name]Sarah[/name] and the other [name]Elizabeth[/name]. Then, they picked new middle names. I am happy they did it this way because we know they love our first names equally and the names sound good together! I would recommend just picking two names you like that “go” together in style but are not matchy (no same first letters or rhyming because twins will have to deal with enough confusion/sharing without that silliness, [name]IMO[/name] :)). Basically, just approach naming twins like putting together a good sibset of any kind, taking care to be sensitive to giving them their own identities too.
