An odd title and not exactly related to baby names but to twenty-some years later when those names don’t belong to babies. Inspired by the application for degree paperwork in my hand, I find myself stumped by the simple request to write my name how I want it to appear on my diploma.
[name_m]How[/name_m] do I want my name to appear on my college diploma? First middle last name? First, middle initial, last name? My first and last name is my professional name but do I want to put just that down on my diploma or do I want to keep my personal and professional life separate and use my middle name/initial instead? (I should mention that I have checked and I am the only living person by my name in the States, so there would be no [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] confusion).
This tiny little question has me freaking out about a lot of things right now. Tell me, Berries, what did you put on your diploma? Is there a custom to how names should be put on diplomas?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you mean like a degree certificate? If so, we didn’t get a choice; our full names were printed on them. Nothing else really comes all shiny and complete like that. University is the only graduation-come on stage-here is your certificate affair we have here. I have some exam certificates but I didn’t get to choose anything for them either.
I wish I had a better middle name. Parents, give your baby berries great full names so they don’t have to be conflicted like me. They’ll find another excuse to be conflicted.
I’d compromise and do middle initial, then. I think that’s what I’m going to do–I’m not fond of my middle name but I’m slightly concerned that my first and last names aren’t singular enough to stand for me and no one else.
