Narrowed it down

If you had to choose between [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], what would you choose? I am not a big nickname person so I had to eliminate [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] from my list even though I love it. [name_m]Not[/name_m] a fan of [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Penny[/name_f], [name_f]Nell[/name_f], etc. [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is my sister in law’s name so I hesitate a little bit there… but love it so much so I am torn. Advice?

I like [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] best, but if you don’t like nicknames would probably choose [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] as it seems the least likely to be shortened to anything (although I do know an [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] who always uses her full name)

I would choose the sweet and pretty [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] :ribbon:[name_f][/name_f] I love how it (in my opinion) ages well.

I would choose [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] personally. All lovely names!

If you don’t like nicknames my ranking would be

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] (never met one that went by a nickname)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] (no nicknames but is a repeat name in your family, which feels like its bothering you)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] (most of the Eloise’s I know have nicknames. They are all 3 and under but none of them go by [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] etc.)

I would have said [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], but since it is already used in the family I would pick [name_f]Annabel[/name_f].

[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is my favourite (it feels really chic, and both dainty and sturdy!) but I also love Phoebe’s cheerful, bright vibe, and I think if you want to avoid nicknames it’s the best choice of the 3.

I would not use [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] in your case
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Rosabel[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]?

I do think [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] would carry nicknames. Annie/ Bella/ El/ [name_f]Lou[/name_f]. [name_f]So[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] might be best here. Hopefully your SIL is okay with it? It makes sense if you’re close, might be odd otherwise.

I really like [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]

[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is my personal favourite. I don’t think it will attract nicknames because it rolls off the tongue swiftly and easily. I’ve known two that I can recall and both went by their full names.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is a good option but I would expect [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] to potentially come up because most [name_f]El[/name_f]- names seem to be shortened to [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]In[/name_f] your position, I would cross off [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] from the list unless you want the name to be seen as a honour for your sister in law.

Why not Phoebe ?

I don’t have any problem using a family name if I like it - as long as its not that common in the family or used for another child - I like it the best of all the list

Annabel reminds me of the “ haunted doll “story

[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is my favorite! [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is gorgeous but if you’re not wanting to honor your sister in law, I think I’d skip [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] unfortunately. [name_f][/name_f] All your options are lovely though!

Ooo, all three are so good!

I’m having a hard time picking between [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]. I think since your SIL is [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], that gives [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] a slight edge over it for me, but it sounds like you really love it and it wouldn’t be a total dealbreaker for me. There are sooooo many repeat names in my family and they aren’t even great names like [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is. :joy:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is lovely and classic, it’s just lost a tad of its charm for me because I know several little Eloise’s and know a plethora of little girls with [name_f]El[/name_f]- names who all end up going by similar nicknames and that makes them all sort of blur together and feel a tad less special for me.

I think all three are lovely, but I’d personally hesitate to use [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] if it’s your sister-in-law’s name, it can just get a bit complicated in families, even if you love it. Although I do think it depends on your relationship and how comfortable you feel, so it’s definitely usable and a lovely choice if you can get past that hesitation.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] does feel quite popular right now, especially with so many [name_f]El[/name_f]- names around (Ella, [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], etc.), so I could see it going either way, people might stick to [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] to distinguish it, or default to Ellie/Elle since those nicknames are so familiar.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] feels a bit less tied to current trends, and I can actually see it being used in full more often. It’s classic and recognisable, but not as surrounded by similar-sounding names, if that makes sense. If avoiding nicknames is a big priority, I might lean slightly toward [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] for that reason.

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is really the best non nickname choice. Though style wise my favorite is [name_f]Annabel[/name_f].

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is least likely to have a nickname, the others it would seem likely since they are longer and have so many nickname options. I do see how [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] might have to be crossed off though since it’s been used already.

[name_f][/name_f]

I’d consider:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] :tulip:

[name_f][/name_f]

(she has similar sounds as [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and similar vibe as [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], is less likely to be nicknamed than your 3 syllable choices, and isn’t already the name of a family member. I feel like she’s perfect for you!)

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is the best non nickname choice but if you are bothered with the sister in law use [name_f]Eloise[/name_f].
