Natalie - dated?

I’ve never liked the name [name]Natalie[/name] but yesterday I saw it with the nickname “[name]Tallie[/name]” and fell in love. Does it sound dated? What do you think of it? [name]Do[/name] you like the nickname “[name]Natty[/name]” even though that could lead to teasing?

I actually love [name]Natalie[/name], it’s one of the few more mainstream names I really like! I don’t feel it’s dated at all, I only actually know 2, one is about 24, and the other must be near 30. (Not counting Celebrities!) If I knew a bunch of a certain age I’d say it’s dated, but where I live it’s still pretty fresh and uncommon.

That all being said, I’m not keen on many of the nicknames you get with [name]Natalie[/name], which is what holds me back personally.

My baby sister is a [name]Natalie[/name] nn [name]Tallie[/name]. [name]Tallie[/name] has redeemed it for me, actually–while I find [name]Natalie[/name] beautiful and sweet and timeless and just a bit spunky and glamorous (yet a little on the quiet side–which totally fits my little sister!), I just love the unpredictable [name]Tallie[/name]. People don’t expect it, when they hear [name]Tallie[/name], they’re like, “Wait, what?” haha. I think [name]Tallie[/name]'s adorable, though. If my little sister didn’t get [name]Tallie[/name] I’d have probably considered [name]Tallulah[/name] for the nn, I really love [name]Tallie[/name]. I actually think a little [name]Natalie[/name] nn [name]Tallie[/name] would be adorable with your kiddos.

As for [name]Natty[/name], idk. My mom called my little sister Natie (same pronunciation) when she was little, but my sister didn’t like it very much (and she HATED [name]Nat[/name]–still does). I think [name]Nattie[/name]/Natie is cute, but I prefer [name]Tallie[/name], personally.

For what it’s worth, my little sister is about 17 and a half.

I definitely don’t think it is dated at all. In my area it is actually seems border line too trendy and modern for my taste. [name]Tallie[/name] is so perfect though I would consider using [name]Natalie[/name] even if it is a little popular/trendy.

I like [name]Natalie[/name], but I like [name]Natalia[/name] better. I’m not sold on the nn [name]Tallie[/name].

I know quite a few [name]Natalie[/name]'s and one [name]Nathalie[/name]. They all have the nn [name]Nat[/name].

I definitely get more of a timeless vibe. I know tons of Natalies and two Nathalies, most are in their 20s and 30 but I do know a baby and two toddlers, so I think it’s got some generation-wide appeal. I think [name]Tallie[/name] is awesome. Only one of the Natalies goes sometimes by [name]Nat[/name], nobody by [name]Natty[/name], I don’t really think people gravitate to that nickname.

I do mildly prefer [name]Natalia[/name], just prefer the rhythm and vowel sounds of it, and to me, [name]Tallie[/name] is mildly more intuitive for [name]Natalia[/name] (even with the A sounds being different, the stress on the TA seems to make it come more naturally). I think [name]Natalia[/name] might be less timeless, and it is a bit in vogue these days, but I believe it’s still ranked low enough that trendy isn’t really right - it’s still much less often heard than [name]Natalie[/name] I believe. I’ve only ever known one [name]Natalia[/name].

A very good friend of mine is named [name]Natalie[/name] and I love the name. She gets called [name]Natty[/name] and [name]Nat[/name]. I call her [name]Natasha[/name] or [name]Natalia[/name]. She actually said once she preferred [name]Natalia[/name], but [name]Natalie[/name] suits her. Spunky and classic all at the same time.

love [name]Natalie[/name] and [name]Natalia[/name]- [name]Tallie[/name] is adorable! I know a little girl with that nickname, but her full name is [name]Talitha[/name]. I do not care for [name]Natty[/name]!

p.s. I also know a little girl names [name]Natalia[/name]- her nick name is [name]Talia[/name]- really sweet to hear aloud!

My younger daughter is [name]Jemima[/name] [name]Natalie[/name]. If we had gone with [name]Natalie[/name] for her first name, her nickname would have been [name]Tasha[/name]. [name]Natalie[/name] is a classic name.

I love the name [name]Natalie[/name]. I have never like the nn [name]Natty[/name], but I love [name]Tallie[/name]. [name]Tallie[/name] is adorable!

I don’t love [name]Natalie[/name], TBH. It sounds pretty dated to me - like [name]Tiffany[/name], [name]Stephanie[/name], that kind of names. But I think [name]Natalia[/name] is a great, fresh alternative. I am considering [name]Natalia[/name] with nn [name]Natasha[/name](that’s actually not a name but a Russian nickname) BTW.

I think of [name]Natalie[/name] as classic, not dated. I haven’t met many people by that name, so maybe that’s why.

[name]Tallie[/name] is sweet, but like the others on here, I’m not keen on [name]Natty[/name]. You could also use [name]Talia[/name]/[name]Talya[/name] or [name]Tasha[/name], as someone suggested.

I like [name]Natalie[/name] a lot! And [name]Tallie[/name] is just adorable.

I [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Natalie[/name]. It’s one of my favorite names - I just wish my husband liked it as much as I do :frowning: To be honest, I really don’t like [name]Tallie[/name] at all, but [name]Nat[/name] is cute. I think the name on its own is so beautiful that it doesn’t require a nickname.

Like [name]Natalie[/name], love [name]Natalia[/name] even better!! [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Tallie[/name]!! I might add it to my list!!

I have a little 3 year old [name]Natalia[/name] who we call [name]Talli[/name], it fits her perfectly. Once we established that as her nickname no one really calls her anything else. (I really dislike [name]Natty[/name]). My husband loved [name]Natalie[/name] but [name]Natalia[/name] was our compromise. I felt [name]Natalie[/name] was a little too quiet and shy sounding. Plus I had a cousin with a little girl [name]Natalie[/name] already.

I don’t think [name]Natalie[/name] is dated at all! It’s a classic to me and still in the top 20, I believe. [name]Natalie[/name] is the name of a little girl who’s very dear to me, she’s made me love the name! I prefer it without any nicknames.

My name is [name]Natalie[/name] so I don’t really have an opinion on it. I’m 17 and have never met another one and neither have I been bullied about any of the nicknames - [name]Nat[/name], [name]Natty[/name], Nats, Natters - actually, most people seem to like my name. I don’t really, but no one really likes their own names!
