Nautical names for girls

What are some ocean/sea/island type names for girls? We settled on the name [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but I am starting to second guess the fact (again) that many people cannot say it or spell it properly. We live on an island in [name_f]Maine[/name_f] and both feel our ties to the ocean have a lot of meaning for us.

Thanks!

I don’t have any other girl names related to sea/ocean at the moment but I want to suggest Damla and Katre both mean drop of water in Turkish.

As for [name_f]Isla[/name_f] - well, I’m sure that people will quickly learn to pronounce it correctly - so go with your heart.

I knew a girl in high school named [name_u]Ocean[/name_u], that could work. What about [name_f]Marin[/name_f] or [name_f]Aqua[/name_f]? [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] reminds me of the ocean because of the [name_m]Little[/name_m] Mermaid. It’s a bit out there, but I think Wave could work as a middle name. As for [name_f]Isla[/name_f], I pronounced it correctly the first time I saw it without having heard it said before/knowing the pronunciation, so I think it’s pretty straightforward. There’s also the similar [name_f]Islay[/name_f], which is also spelled unintuitively but is more well-known because of the Scottish island.

[name_f]Undine[/name_f], a female water spirit, is found in the writings of Paracelsus. [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] is the [name_m]French[/name_m] form.

[name_f]Nereida[/name_f] is a from Nereides, sea sprites in Greek mythology, supposedly fathered by the sea god [name_m]Nereus[/name_m]. A few of their names: [name_f]Clio[/name_f], [name_f]Halie[/name_f], [name_f]Ione[/name_f], Maera, and [name_f]Thaleia[/name_f] / [name_f]Thalia[/name_f].

[name_u]Morgen[/name_u] / [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] is a siren-like water spirit found in Welsh mythology.

[name_f]Isla[/name_f] is a very special name. It’s always been top of my lists. I love how it is written and I really do think people will know how to spell it. I’m also a huge fan of the ocean (thinking of calling my son ocean!). [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is your name.

Aw, I’m from [name_f]Maine[/name_f] too.
