Ned, Jared, Adam, Odin

My new little cousin arrived today
Actually second cousin, but like a cousin because our family is close.

Anyway, just wanted to post and gather some opinions about names in my family recently, all of these boys are under one and a half.

[name]Jared[/name] and [name]Adam[/name]: brothers. I don’t like their names… I love them to bits but I can’t quite find anything to love about their names. [name]Both[/name] mn’s are family and [name]Jared[/name] is [name]Jared[/name] [name]James[/name] so I call him JJ which is a bit cuter then [name]Jared[/name]. [name]Jared[/name] reminds me of [name]Jarred[/name]… [name]Adam[/name] is so bland. And his parents didn’t really think it through because my daughter is [name]Genevieve[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name] so we have an [name]Adam[/name] and [name]Eve[/name] and none of us are even religious.

The baby that arrived today is [name]Odin[/name] [name]Arthur[/name]: This is the only baby I won’t see regularly (maybe not at all) His parents are from my dads side and super hippyish. It’s a very hippyish and magic-associated name. I’m not a fan at all.

Now the only name I do like…

[name]Ned[/name]! So cute. [name]Just[/name] [name]Ned[/name] not [name]Edward[/name]. [name]Ned[/name] has no middle name because their last name is long and clunky and [name]German[/name]. Part of it sounds like burger hahahha. Anway, at first I didn’t really like the name [name]Ned[/name] but it has grown on me so much! It suits him to a T! He is a very blond rosy cheeked blue eyed little darling. I call him our english rose. And [name]Ned[/name] is for his granddad [name]Fred[/name].

What do you think? Are [name]Jared[/name], [name]Adam[/name] and [name]Odin[/name] as bad as I think they are?
Also, my cousin ([name]Ned[/name]'s mum) is considering another baby soon, she wants a girl and likes the name [name]Alice[/name].
[name]Ned[/name] and [name]Alice[/name]? Adorable or is that just me?

[name]Just[/name] wanted to mention that it’s so strange because [name]Odin[/name] was born on the 9/9/09, my grandma on the 5/5, my sister the 10/10 and another cousin on the 12/12 and my own girls on the 8/8!! So weird!

And [name]Susan[/name] is it your birthday soon? I think so but not sure…

Actually I don’t think those names are terrible at all, except perhaps [name]Odin[/name]. I don’t really like [name]Odin[/name] because it sounds too much like odor and seems like a made up name. I love [name]Ned[/name] also, and [name]Jared[/name] and [name]Adam[/name] are sound, masculine names. Maybe they seem a bit bland because they aren’t really hipster, outlandish, or too popular. With the exception of [name]Odin[/name], they’re solid, real boys’ names.

Okay, [name]Ned[/name] is really cute. [name]Jared[/name] makes me think of this T.V. show that used to be on called “The Pretender”. The main character in it was named [name]Jared[/name]. He helped people who were in bad situations, and he was so smart that he could pretend he had any career. That helped him to blend into any situation. Before that show, I didn’t like the name [name]Jared[/name], but since then, I can tolerate it. Also we had this wooden patio furniture from Australia called [name]Jenson[/name] Jarrah. It was really pretty, but we gave it away to our friends when we moved to [name]Colorado[/name]. Then when we got back we got nasty old patio furniture that was out on my dh [name]Kent[/name]'s mother’s porch. But once we paint it and fix the seats of the chairs it will be fine. Anyway [name]Jared[/name] makes me think of [name]Jenson[/name] Jarrah which makes me think of rugged wood that turns slightly grayish as it ages.
I never liked the name [name]Adam[/name], but I respect it. It is odd to have an [name]Adam[/name] and [name]Eve[/name] in the same family, but it’s also kind of fun.
[name]Odin[/name] kind of gives me the willies. My sister had a boyfriend for a while whose middle name was [name]Odin[/name]. He was super handsome, but must have had a low I.Q., because he was singularly insipid. Anyway the relationship didn’t last.
Yes, my birthday is coming right up. These are my last days in my 40’s. We are going to Disneyland.

Thanks simplelife, what you said about them being real names is true.
I hadn’t even thought about it but they could be made up or spelt wrong! Jahrid ahddem. I thought [name]Odin[/name] WAS a made up name until I looked it up… Thank you for your reply

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Susan[/name], thanks for your reply and happy last days of fourty!
I have some [name]Jensen[/name] Jarrah furniture as well and I love it but I hadn’t made that connection.
I can tolerate [name]Jared[/name] as well as [name]Adam[/name] but I wished they had thought about the names better! As for [name]Odin[/name]… I didn’t expect much more, they’re very weird people…
[name]Glad[/name] you think [name]Ned[/name] is cute.

[name]Do[/name] you like [name]Ned[/name] and [name]Alice[/name]?

Have fun at disneyland!

It’s weird that [name]Jared[/name] reminds me of [name]Jenson[/name] Jarrah, but it does.
[name]Alice[/name] is one of my fave names! We will go on the [name]Alice[/name] in Wonderland ride in Disneyland at least once. It is my favorite ride, and every time I go anywhere near it, I decide my favorite girl’s name is [name]Alice[/name]. [name]Alice[/name] [name]Katherine[/name] is so cute! But maybe [name]Alice[/name] is a very popular name where you live. In [name]California[/name] it is not popular at all.

It’s not popular where I live and probably less popular where my cousin (neds mum) lives.
I used to be obsessed with [name]Alice[/name] in Wonderland when I was little. It made so much sense to me then and now I watch it and it makes me think what were these people on?? It’s funny how things are so much simpler to children. I went to Tokyo Disneyland last year, it was so great! I hope you have heaps of fun and the lines aren’t too long

I love [name]Jared[/name] I think it is handsome, easy to say and not too popular.

I love [name]Susan[/name] saying it gave her the willies you don’t hear that a lot. [name]Happy[/name] Birthday too!!

Jarrah timber is usually a reddish colour. I have it in my stairwell and love it. I suppose that all timber goes grey over time but Jarrah timber is all red to me.

[name]Alice[/name] is a beautiful name so I hope that aunty keeps this one on the top of her list.

Congratulations on a new cousin, [name]Josie[/name]! I love [name]Ned[/name] (but I admit that I love it as a nickname for [name]Edward[/name] or [name]Nathaniel[/name]). [name]Jared[/name] and [name]Adam[/name] don’t do anything for me, but I don’t think they’re awful by any means. (To me, [name]Jared[/name] will always be the guy from the Subway sandwich chain who lost a lot of weight…he stars in the commercials.)

[name]Odin[/name]? Uh, yeah, “odor” came to my mind immediately, followed by Odious, and then by images of [name]Odie[/name], the dog from the [name]Garfield[/name] cartoon. Darn. (I tried really hard to like it, though!)

Here’s what you can do, [name]Josie[/name]: Turn [name]Odin[/name] into an acronym featuring names you love. For example, I’lll make O.d.in. “[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Dashiell[/name] [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name].” There! Now I love your cousin’s name!

I hope Miss [name]Genevieve[/name] and Miss [name]Mirabelle[/name] are doing well!

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Jill[/name]!!

I thought I loved [name]Ned[/name] as a nn only but there last name is just so long and heavy that I get where they’re coming from. It is four syllables! I agree with you about [name]Jared[/name] and [name]Adam[/name], they are so bland. I hope you didn’t try to like [name]Odin[/name] on my behalf because I don’t like it one bit! It’s a horrible sound :(.
The acronym idea is SO great!!! I will definitely do that.

[name]Genevieve[/name] and [name]Mira[/name] are doing very well, thank you for asking. They are hard work and the little time I get to spend on nameberry is very special for me now :). The girls are gorgeous. Sometimes I call them [name]Jane[/name] and [name]May[/name].

I will get back to you on an acronym I pick! I am going to make sure it is a really good one

I am going to be the odd one out and admit that I like [name]Odin[/name]…as a mn. It is from Norse mythology. I also like mn’s like [name]Osiris[/name].
[name]Jared[/name] I feel is a bit common but not a horrible name. [name]Adam[/name] is sweet but not my favorite.
[name]Ned[/name] - I’m not sure how I feel about this one. I do love [name]Alice[/name] though.

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Rollo[/name], [name]Susan[/name] saying it gives me the willies mad me laugh to!
I must admit, I think of Jarrah timber as grey because in Western Australia it was used on alot of fences before it became valuable and because it’s weathered its grey.
I love it inside though, I have seen the most magnificent wood floors from Jarrah timber! My floors are recycled timber that is an orangey-brown.
Back to names… I hope that [name]Christine[/name] decides to use [name]Alice[/name] to, I love it and I think it goes so well with [name]Ned[/name]!

[name]Hi[/name] Disa (or [name]Lisa[/name]?)
I think [name]Odin[/name] would be alright as a mn but as a fn imagine being called [name]Odin[/name] or having to say [name]Odin[/name] all day everyday! I like [name]Osiris[/name] as a mn. And [name]Isis[/name]… my brother plays a game called Age of mythology or something and it has all those gods in it.

It’s [name]Lisa[/name] [name]Dan[/name] is my husbands name and as you can tell we’re not very creative with screen names. I had a great one years ago, or so I thought. I found out there was a hip hop band with the same name - SoulEclipse :frowning: oh I loved that name but hated the fact I wasn’t original anymore.

[name]Odin[/name] would be a hard one to pull of for a first name. I can already hear the [name]Odie[/name] nn and think of [name]Garfield[/name]'s dog pal. I like quirky, meaningful names more for middles. I’d never be brave enough to use some of my wild card favorites as fn’s but would love to hear them on some other persons child.

My son’s name is [name]Odin[/name]! He’s seven. Also strong, and looks like an [name]Odin[/name], so I guess he can pull it off.
