Need a boy name! Got down in the 20s for days left

We have a daughter named [name_f]Adelynn[/name_f]. And my husband and I can not agree on anything. !
I love the name [name_m]Roland[/name_m] as I feel it’s comparable to adelynn ! But he doesn’t. He likes names like hector or [name_m]Zander[/name_m], and I do not.
We once agreed on the name [name_u]Mason[/name_u] but a lot of my sisters friends dogs are named mason and it’s sooo popular right now!
So I need help finding a name that’s not popular but an older name that can be shortened into a nickname.
I have literally stocked every naming site there is and cant come up with anything!

I’m feeling at a bit of a loss on how to help. “Names like [name_m]Hector[/name_m] or [name_m]Zander[/name_m]” - what links those names? Is it the -er sound on the end? Because they seem like very different origins, very different styles. I think of [name_m]Hector[/name_m] as a Hispanic name, and [name_m]Zander[/name_m] as a modern nickname from [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. Is it that [name_m]Hector[/name_m] and [name_m]Zander[/name_m] both sound very masculine to your husband?

What do you like about [name_u]Mason[/name_u] and [name_m]Roland[/name_m]? To me, [name_u]Mason[/name_u] is a popular modern name; [name_m]Roland[/name_m] is an uncommon, vintage name. What do you feel makes [name_m]Roland[/name_m] and [name_f]Adelynn[/name_f] comparable? They seem to share some sounds, but to me their origins and styles are different - [name_f]Adalynn[/name_f] is a more modern, popular style of name than [name_m]Roland[/name_m]. I would peg [name_m]Roland[/name_m] as ‘vintage’ or ‘hipster’ and [name_f]Adalynn[/name_f] as ‘popular’ or ‘modern.’

The best I can gather from the names you’ve listed, you both seem to like feminine names for girls and masculine names for boys, and not unisex names. That’s a starting point. You seem to like both vintage and modern names. You seem to trend towards the letter A for sound. (My sister in law has a [name_f]Rachel[/name_f], [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f], [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], and [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] - all A sounds, all classic names.)

I think you’ll have better luck finding a name you two can both agree on if you figure out what you’re each looking for in a name. Is it sound? Is it meaning? Is it a personal association? Is it a reference to a character or a family member? Is it style or a certain vibe? What do you each like and want in a name?

I associate adelynn with a vintage name or was when we named our daughter it’s way more popular now. So I think [name_m]Roland[/name_m] is comparable.
I like the sound of mason but don’t like how popular it is. And that it can’t really be shortened.
My husband likes the way certain names sound I guess.

Does your husband like more Greek names? [name_m]Hector[/name_m] is the character from Trojan War and [name_m]Zander[/name_m] is a version of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]

[name_m]Andrew[/name_m] - it means manly
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] - to be immortal
[name_m]Evander[/name_m] - good man
[name_m]Leander[/name_m] - strong like the lion
[name_m]Lysander[/name_m] - one who releases men

Why not go to the Social Security website and take a look at the top 1000 names for 1890 or 1910? Maybe you’ll see something that catches your fancy.

I love vintage names and I feel like that’s the style you’re leaning towards.
My all time favorite name (DH hates) is [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] which has that theme as well.

Some others to consider:

[name_u]Emerson[/name_u]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u]
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m]
[name_m]Truett[/name_m] (another favorite of mine)
[name_m]Bennett[/name_m]
[name_m]Grant[/name_m]

Maybe [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], [name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_m]Booker[/name_m], [name_m]Cassius[/name_m], [name_u]Ellison[/name_u], [name_m]Orson[/name_m]?

Oh, I see. I was looking at the spelling, with the -lynn ending, which to me is modern. [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is the Victorian/[name_m]French[/name_m] spelling, and the pronunciation is more often LEEN, or sometimes [name_f]LINE[/name_f], instead of [name_f]LIN[/name_f].

Okay, so [name_m]Roland[/name_m] is also vintage. [name_m]Hector[/name_m] is vintage, too, I guess, though for me I hear the Hispanic pronunciation (like the skeleton in Disney’s [name_f]Coco[/name_f]). [name_u]Mason[/name_u] and [name_m]Zander[/name_m] are more modern, I think.

Some suggestions for other vintage/Victorian names, masculine, and with nicknames:
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m]/[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m]
[name_m]Thatcher[/name_m]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]
[name_m]Drake[/name_m]
[name_m]Quentin[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]
[name_m]Lincoln[/name_m]
[name_m]Dalton[/name_m]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
Rigdon

Good luck! I hope you find something you both love.

To me [name_m]Roland[/name_m] feel a bit too match with [name_f]Adelynn[/name_f] sounds wise so I can understand why your husband may not like it as well. [name_m]Zander[/name_m] actually feels like a good match to [name_f]Adelynn[/name_f] but I suspect doesn’t have the vintage quality you are looking for?
