I’ve always dreamt of having a daughter named [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] but my sister ended up using that name. The idea of me using the same name with a different nickname has caused a lot of family turmoil and I’m not sure if it’s a possibility anymore. I am devastated and not sure what to do now.
Looking for a girl name starting with E that has a [name_u]Christian[/name_u] significance. Don’t like predictable (ex. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], Eden). Would prefer something that didn’t start with “EL” since [name_u]Elijah[/name_u] already has those first two letters. Cannot use [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_u]Elisa[/name_u] or [name_f]Eunice[/name_f] as those names are already used in the family.
I have pored over names (Hebrew names, Greek Names, [name_u]French[/name_u] names, etc,) for months now and have not found something I love as much as [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f].
Please help!!! I am so stressed about this name situation! Thank you!
[name_f]Estella[/name_f] / [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] (for the star/celestial meaning - feels tied to Christmas?)
[name_f]Euodia[/name_f] (a new testament name)
[name_f]Effie[/name_f] / [name_f]Euphemia[/name_f] (Euphemia as in an early martyr - [name_f]Effie[/name_f] can be a nickname for both that and Elizabeth)
[name_f]Edna[/name_f]
You could consider meanings?
[name_f]Eudora[/name_f] (good gift - reminds me of Evangeline’s meaning)
[name_u]Esme[/name_u] (loved/esteemed)
[name_f]Eileen[/name_f] (related to [name_f]Helen[/name_f] and Avila)
Oh I’m so sorry your favourite name has been pinched… that’s very difficult.
I’m going to go out on a limb I’m not sure if you’ll like these but as your criteria is a little restrictive I’ve had to go way out…
I’m not sure this is a name but i do think it sounds like it could be and it has a beautiful meaning:
Éternelle which of course is [name_u]French[/name_u] for Everlasting
Everlasting is another option though it might be a little wordy… [name_u]Ever[/name_u] is a cute nn tho…
[name_f]Esperanza[/name_f]: which is spanish for [name_f]Hope[/name_f] nn ZaZa
Esprit: meaning [name_f]Spirit[/name_f] in [name_u]French[/name_u]
[name_u]Enfys[/name_u]: welsh for [name_f]Rainbow[/name_f] (this maybe tricky to pronounce however…)
[name_f]Enid[/name_f]: welsh againfor spirit and life
Also this may be a bit too close but the name
[name_f]Evangelique[/name_f] may appeal and be different enough from your niece’s name if you used another nickname…
All in all I think my pick for you would be the lovely [name_f]Esperanza[/name_f]! It has the length elegance and poise of [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and the beautiful meaning too.
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Epiphany[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] or Pippi)
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f] (it means “my [name_m]God[/name_m] has answered”, you could call her [name_f]Lia[/name_f] or [name_f]Annie[/name_f] to make it less like Elijah)
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] (an early saint name, and I think it would go really well with the other siblings)
[name_f]Exa[/name_f] (technically this is a different spelling of a name that is in the Bible. People might think you got the name from [name_u]Elon[/name_u] Musk’s kid though.)
[name_f]Eilish[/name_f] (means “pledged to God”, but people might think you got it from [name_u]Billie[/name_u] Eilish)
[name_u]Endellion[/name_u] (another early saint name, [name_f]Della[/name_f] could be a cute nickname)
[name_f]Easter[/name_f]
I’m guessing [name_u]Evangel[/name_u] would be too similar to [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]?
I love the simple [name_f]Eve[/name_f], but maybe a form of [name_f]Eve[/name_f] would appeal more to you
[name_f]Evita[/name_f]
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Evanthe[/name_f]
not actually related to [name_f]Eve[/name_f] that I know of, but shares the sound
[name_f]Evodie[/name_f] or [name_f]Evodia[/name_f]
forms of [name_f]Euodia[/name_f], which is a Bible name
If you’re open to word names, maybe [name_f]Essence[/name_f]? [name_f]Essie[/name_f] would be such a cute nickname. [name_f]Emmie[/name_f] and [name_f]Essie[/name_f]
Would you encounter trouble if you named her [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Angeline[/name_f]? That way she almost has [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] as her full first and middle name, but her first name is [name_f]Eve[/name_f] to distinguish from her cousin.
Otherwise, would it be too much of a stretch to use another [name_f]Eve[/name_f]- name, like [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] or [name_f]Eveline[/name_f]? They’re not strictly Biblical or [name_u]Christian[/name_u], but do contain [name_f]Eve[/name_f] which is obviously Biblical.
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is stunning, sorry you can no longer use that. A few ideas:
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] - simple and sleek, but is it too similar still?
[name_f]Elisheva[/name_f] - more unpredictable than [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Eugenia[/name_f] - saint name
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] - saint name
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f]
Have you told your family how much you’ve always wanted to use the name [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and how much it means to you?
It honestly sounds like your sister took the name from you. Did you tell her before her pregnancy at any point that you wanted to use [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]?
If she uses [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] nickname [name_f]Evie[/name_f] or [name_f]Eva[/name_f], some of the other nicknames could be…
[name_u]Angie[/name_u]
[name_f]Annie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lina[/name_f]
[name_f]Lia[/name_f]
[name_f]Jill[/name_f]
[name_f]Gigi[/name_f]
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
Although, I’m sure you’ve already thought of these.
I do think, however, another idea could be breaking the E theme.
Maybe something with a similar sound like an I sound? E.g. [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] / [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] (God is my oath), or [name_f]Ines[/name_f] (pure), or something with a [name_u]Christian[/name_u] meaning e.g. [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] (fair, blessed)
I do love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and her variants e.g. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f], (even [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] at a stretch although that claims separate origins), and it’s a shame you can’t use [name_f]Esther[/name_f] because that’s a lovely choice.
I’m so sorry to hear that you’re in this predicament
Could [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] be the middle name? Leaving you to come up with an E related or non E related first name. Maybe have the first name start with the first letter of Emmanuelle’s middle name. At the end of the day you want to use what you love. Putting it in the middle could be the trick.
