My fiancé and I both fell in love with [name]Noemi[/name] [name]Angeli[/name]. It is easily pronounced in English and Spanish (without being obviously Spanish) and this is a must for us. The combo doesnt sound as pretty in English, but as we wont be using her middle name that often we went for it Now she needs a sister.
I love [name]Emily[/name] [name]Celeste[/name] as it would honor my great grandmother and grandmother but my cousin got the jump on me and named her daughter [name]Emilia[/name]. I feel as it would be too close. Also, as a sibset [name]Noemi[/name] and [name]Emily[/name] share the same “emi” sound.
My fiancé like [name]Eden[/name], but it sounds not so pretty in Spanish (eh-den). And I don’t really like [name]Celeste[/name] as a first name. Our last name begins with an “ah” sound so we are avoiding names that end in a.
[name]Paloma[/name]! It was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the title of the thread. [name]Noemi[/name] & [name]Paloma[/name] are adorable together! [name]Paloma[/name] [name]Celeste[/name] is pretty.
I think [name]Paloma[/name] is so pretty! Unfortunately, it ends with the same sound as the first syllable my soon-to-be last name! It seems to be that I love every name that ends with that “ah” sound, but when paired with the last name, it doesn’t work. In Spanish, it almost works, but with the way most people pronounce the last name in English, it just sounds like one smushed name.
I think you could still honor your grandmother and great-grandmother with [name]Noemi[/name]. It has the “em” in there and you could call her “[name]Emme[/name]” if your cousin’s [name]Emilia[/name] isn’t already called [name]Emmy[/name]/[name]Emme[/name].
Maybe:
[name]Noemi[/name] [name]Angeli[/name] and [name]Elena[/name] [name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Noemi[/name] [name]Angeli[/name] and [name]Maya[/name] [name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Noemi[/name] [name]Angeli[/name] and [name]Esme[/name] [name]Celeste[/name] (might be too close)
[name]Noemi[/name] [name]Angeli[/name] and [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Noemi[/name] [name]Angeli[/name] and [name]Renata[/name] [name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Noemi[/name] [name]Angeli[/name] and [name]Bianca[/name] [name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Noemi[/name] [name]Angeli[/name] and [name]Daniela[/name] [name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Noemi[/name] [name]Angeli[/name] and [name]Inez[/name] [name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Noemi[/name] [name]Angeli[/name] and [name]Viviana[/name] [name]Celeste[/name]
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Noemi[/name]. It is my favorite girl name ever and is my daughter’s middle. Avoiding girl names in Spanish that end with “a” is tricky, and something we were trying to do for baby #3.
Some of these are more usable than others! [name]Sister[/name] combos I really like are [name]Noemi[/name] and [name]Iris[/name], [name]Noemi[/name] and [name]Ines[/name], [name]Noemi[/name] and [name]Carmen[/name], [name]Noemi[/name] and [name]Marisol[/name], and [name]Noemi[/name] and [name]Beatriz[/name].
@aguafresca-- [name]Luc[/name]ía Noemí is beautiful. I love it. And the [name]Beatriz[/name] suggestion… we might be on to something here… it didn’t get the “eww” face from the fiance…
All of these names are so pretty! But the fiancé refuses to let go of [name]Eden[/name]! And I’m seriously crushing on [name]Beatriz[/name] but spelled [name]Beatrice[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Eden[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name] is a nice match? And with [name]Noemi[/name] [name]Angeli[/name]? And pronounced in Spanish?
Definitely go with [name]Eden[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name]! It’s so pretty and pairs well with [name]Noemi[/name] [name]Angeli[/name]. I don’t think it’s a big deal if it doesn’t sound as nice in Spanish. What will probably happen is her name will be transformed into Edenita anyway. lol At least that’s what happens to all the girls in my family- [name]Annita[/name], Nicolita, Rebekita, Sophita, etc…
I like [name]Eden[/name] fine as a name, but in Spanish it sounds an awful lot like the Spanish pronunciation of [name]Adam[/name] ([name]Adan[/name]). Is [name]Eden[/name] actually used as a name in Spanish? I don’t know! I asked my Colombian husband and he said he wasn’t sure if [name]Eden[/name] is used as a name. Though that might not matter.
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name] sounds beautiful in English, just not sure about how it sounds in Spanish. I’m guessing how it sounds in English is more important?
[name]Eden[/name] is not used as a name in Spanish, which is precisely what I keep trying to tell the fiancé. It just doesn’t sound pretty in Spanish. It is important to me that my grandparents be able to say the name, but as I live here in the States, I guess English is more important. It’s just that many of my cousins have names that get butchered in Spanish, and I don’t want that. I’m going back to the drawing board here… need to find a name that is easily pronounced in Spanish, but isn’t necessarily a Spanish name, and doesn’t end in ‘a’.
Well, I don’t think [name]Eden[/name] would get butchered by Spanish-speaking family because it is a legitimate word that they know. Would you and/or your fiancé actually be speaking Spanish much at home yourselves? Or would you guys just be speaking English and only the extended family would use the Spanish pronunciation? I think that makes a difference.
If you like [name]Eden[/name], do you like [name]Belen[/name] which has similar sounds? Or do you like [name]Iris[/name] or [name]Ines[/name], which are both short and sweet like [name]Eden[/name] is? Would your fiance consider [name]Beatrice[/name]/[name]Beatriz[/name] as the first name?
We definitely would speak Spanish at home… I want my children to speak Spanish… [name]Belen[/name] is just too Christmasy to me… I like [name]Iris[/name] and [name]Ines[/name], but not in English. I’m working on him to consider [name]Beatrice[/name] as a first name, because I love it. Haha… this is incredibly difficult!
I grew up bi-cultural and it was and is really important to me that my name sounds good in the languages I speak. I’m completely on your side - I wouldn’t use [name]Eden[/name] if it’s awkward in Spanish. I really hate that my french relatives don’t pn the last a in [name]Alexandra[/name] I am constantly correcting them - I wouldn’t want that for your daughter as well.
I’d suggest to him [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Eden[/name]. [name]Beatrice[/name] has some great nn options ranging from [name]Bee[/name] to [name]Trixie[/name] (my personal favorite).
I also really liked [name]Marisol[/name] or [name]Ines[/name] with [name]Noemi[/name].
@teacherma [name]Anais[/name] [name]Celeste[/name] is gorgeous… [name]Elise[/name] is another one I’ve been throwing around… I really had no idea finding a name that works in two languages would be so difficult, and getting him to agree is even harder! I think it’s time to work on the fiancé again. He’s so stubborn! I’m saying them out loud together now… [name]Anais[/name] and [name]Noemi[/name]… I see the nn [name]Annie[/name] and [name]Emi[/name] happening. Are rhyming nicknames too cutesy?
I was realizing that if we have a girl we’re naming her [name]Ines[/name], but we plan on only using the Spanish pronunciation regardless of which language we’re speaking. It is possible to do that with [name]Eden[/name], I think - to just use the English pronunciation. For your Spanish speaking family members, just tell them to think of it as spelled “Idin” and they’ll be close to the right pronunciation.
I don’t think [name]Annie[/name] and [name]Emi[/name] are too close for nicknames, if you went with [name]Anais[/name] and [name]Noemi[/name].
I like the ideas of [name]Lourdes[/name] or [name]Camille[/name] with [name]Noemi[/name], too, from the recent suggestions.
I knew a boy [name]Eden[/name] who was from a Spanish-speaking family. Pronounced in Spanish and English, as Eh-den (which he really preferred to make it clearer it wasn’t a girls name). I wonder if they were trying to spell [name]Aiden[/name] in Spanish?
Anyway, I think it works enough.
Another Biblical place name that works in both (I think) and doesn’t end in A: [name]Carmel[/name]. I like [name]Noemi[/name] and [name]Carmel[/name]…
