Need a Top 10

Please excuse my edit

Came over to list my favorites of your boys names. Top 10:

[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Cary[/name] (I actually really love this because of [name]Cary[/name] [name]Grant[/name]
[name]Dominic[/name]
[name]Eldridge[/name] (I’ll keep it because its a family name for you and I love that)
[name]Ethan[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Harrison[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name]
[name]Phineas[/name] (I really love this, but I usually get looks that I’m nuts when I mention it…)
[name]Sawyer[/name]

I prefer [name]Oscar[/name] without the k, but its a good name and [name]Westley[/name] is great, but I love others on your list more.

[name]Arthur[/name]: Not myfavourite from your list but a strong name. I’d say it can stay!
[name]Calvin[/name]: [name]Love[/name] this, but there is the [name]Calvin[/name] and [name]Hobbes[/name] comic connotation that would make me personally choose against it. [name]Shame[/name] because it is a brilliant name.
[name]Cary[/name]: Yeah, too girly.
[name]Charles[/name]: Fabulous strong and manly name, can be shortened nicely for when your boy is little.
[name]Christopher[/name]: Another really good one, but might be a bit too similar to [name]Charles[/name] if you choose that too. I’d go [name]Charles[/name] over [name]Christopher[/name], just.
[name]Dominic[/name]: Hmm, not sure. In theory it’s a nice name and I like it, but then whenever I meet someone with the name I don’t like it so much. I’m just wierd about it I guess, sorry!
[name]Edgar[/name]: [name]Lovely[/name] lovely lovely. [name]One[/name] of my favourites from your list, though quite similar to [name]Eldridge[/name], so if you’re not wanting to have matchy names, it may have to go - as you said [name]Eldridge[/name] is definitely top ten.
[name]Eldridge[/name]: I don’t like it as much as [name]Edgar[/name] personally, but it’s not bad and has special meaning to you, so if I were you I would keep it.
[name]Errol[/name]: Not a fan, sorry.
[name]Ethan[/name]: I like this. Good, solid name.
[name]Felix[/name]: Really cool name, great meaning. But reminds me of [name]Felix[/name] the [name]Cat[/name] and is hard to get a good nickname from. I don’t know if those are things that would bother you?
[name]Franklin[/name]: Brilliant name. [name]Love[/name] it love it love it. Strong, manly, great nickname in [name]Frankie[/name].
[name]Frederick[/name]: Another wonderful one, but I’d avoid having both a [name]Franklin[/name] and a [name]Frederick[/name]. Not totally sure which one I’d pick!
[name]George[/name]: Great name, definitely top ten!
[name]Harris[/name]: I’m not a huge fan of surname names, and this one seems like it may be one of many [name]Harris[/name] and Harrisons.
[name]Harrison[/name]: See above.
[name]Harry[/name]: I prefer this to both [name]Harris[/name] and [name]Harrison[/name], but I think [name]Harvey[/name] is a better H choice.
[name]Harvey[/name]: Brilliant name. Edgy and cool as well as being traditional and manly.
[name]Hugo[/name]: Pretty cool, nice name and I think with a nice meaning too.
[name]Jack[/name]: Wonderful name, but quite a popular one, and I’d probably want to go for a full name like [name]James[/name] and then shorten it to [name]Jack[/name].
[name]James[/name]: [name]Love[/name] this name. Definitely top ten. Maybe top three.
[name]Liam[/name]: I quite like this, and go through phases where I really love it, but at other times I’m not convinced. Not strong enough or something.
[name]Malcolm[/name]: Not a fan.
[name]Nathaniel[/name]: Again, not a fan. Mainly because of a kid I knew growing up who never washed, so this association doesn’t have to tarnish the name for you!
[name]Oskar[/name]: I like this, but like you, definitely prefer with a c! My only concern with this one would be its popularity.
[name]Phineas[/name]: I like this too, and you can shorten it to [name]Fin[/name] which is quite a bit more approachable, but it too is becoming very popular, which may or may not be a concern for you.
[name]Sawyer[/name]: Not really into this, not my style so much.
[name]Seth[/name]: Yeah, it’s ok, but I don’t think it’s as amazing as some of your other names.
[name]Victor[/name]: This is great! But it’s a hard name for when he’s a kid I think, unless you have some cool nickname ideas?
[name]Vincent[/name]: As above. And if you’re not a fan of the shortenings, I’d probably scrap it. Maybe [name]Vinnie[/name]?
[name]Walter[/name]: I know! I love this name too but share your concerns for [name]Wally[/name]. Middle name choice perhaps?
[name]Westley[/name]: The [name]Princess[/name] [name]Bride[/name] is a great name association! I love this name too, very much, and it has some other wonderful connotations.
[name]William[/name]: Again, middle name possibility? I think [name]Walter[/name] is a bit better personally, but [name]William[/name] is a good name too.
[name]Wyatt[/name]: Not really a fan. Reminds me of the hotel chain Hyat. Maybe that’s just an Australian thing though?

TOP 10
[name]Calvin[/name] - Really cool, chic-sounding name, evidently thanks to Mr Klein.
[name]Dominic[/name] - My name is the Polish female variant so I’m a little partial :stuck_out_tongue:
[name]Frederick[/name] - [name]Freddie[/name] as a nm is too die for, and [name]Frederick[/name] in general is a really handsome name.
[name]Hugo[/name] - Another cool name, with a touch of elegance.
[name]James[/name] - Timeless classic
[name]Oskar[/name] - [name]Love[/name] the Scandinavian feel, evokes snow, frost and woods.
[name]William[/name] - Another timeless classic. It’s a pity you don’t like [name]Will[/name] but seeing as it’s on your list, what about [name]Liam[/name] as a nm? Alternatively, he can just go by [name]William[/name]. Many people with long names prefer to avoid short forms.
[name]Westley[/name] - [name]West[/name] is a gp of mine and with a “ley” on the end, it has a great British edge to it. [name]Don[/name]'t kill me, I’ve haven’t seen The [name]Princess[/name] [name]Bride[/name], but I hear it’s a great movie, eternally loved my many so why not! It’s a perfectly fine reason  As a person whose name has no real significance to their parents, I know he’ll thank you for it
[name]Harrison[/name] - Fresh and modern. I’d put [name]Harry[/name] on the list but [name]Harrison[/name] would be better as a full name - [name]Harry[/name] alone is a little incomplete.
[name]Jack[/name] - Yes it’s popular, but you can’t go wrong with [name]Jack[/name]

Dislike (Sorry if I’m too nasty!)

[name]Cary[/name] - I understand the charm of the [name]Cary[/name] [name]Grant[/name] namesake, but I worry that a 21st century baby boy wouldn’t be able to pull it off. It’s a bit too girly.
[name]Edgar[/name] - Nerdy in a bad way, and reminds me of eggs.
[name]Harvey[/name] - In Australia it’s a pretty bogan name. I’d prefer [name]Harry[/name] or [name]Henry[/name].
[name]Malcolm[/name] - Sounds like Talcum Powder, but one of the better names on this “dislike list”
[name]Nathaniel[/name] - A teacher of mine named her baby [name]Nathaniel[/name] recently and I found it to be a really boring choice. [name]Nate[/name]'s cute though and could be a good middle name.
[name]Seth[/name] - A bit too tacky American with the O.C./Twilight associations.
[name]Wyatt[/name] - Something bothers me about this name and I can’t kind quite put my finger on it, but I get the same vibes as [name]Seth[/name].

Here’s what I think:

[name]Arthur[/name] - not a fan, too stuffy for me (if that makes sense)
[name]Calvin[/name] - I really like this one, seems modern but old school at the same time.
[name]Cary[/name] (too girly?) - I think so
[name]Charles[/name] - not a fan, don’t like [name]Charlie[/name] much either.
[name]Christopher[/name]- too many middle aged [name]Christopher[/name]'s (the male [name]Jennifer[/name])
[name]Dominic[/name] - fun, cool name.
[name]Edgar[/name] - old school, smart name. Can’t imagine an athletic dude with this name, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
[name]Eldridge[/name] (pretty much the only one solidified in the top 10. It’s DH’s favorite and a family name) - I like it because it is different, seems very classy to me, in a fun way.
[name]Errol[/name] - not a fan
[name]Ethan[/name] - I really like this one, but it is SO popular in my area - every other boy I meet over the age of 5 is seems to be named [name]Ethan[/name].
[name]Felix[/name] - [name]Love[/name] felix - my partner couldn’t get past the cat association :frowning: It’s modern and classic at the same time.
[name]Franklin[/name] - hmm, it’s ok. Prefer [name]Francis[/name].
[name]Frederick[/name] - Cool clunky name - love [name]Fred[/name]/[name]Freddy[/name] as a nickname.
[name]George[/name] - does nothing for me.
[name]Harris[/name] - pretty cool, unheard of in my area too, would probably get shortened to [name]Harry[/name] often even though they have same amount of syllables.
[name]Harrison[/name] - I like it, distinguished, again would get shortened to [name]Harry[/name].
[name]Harry[/name]- or you could just go with [name]Harry[/name]
[name]Harvey[/name]- burger joint in my city - that takes away the appeal for me.
[name]Hugo[/name] - [name]Love[/name] [name]Hugo[/name] - So cute!! I do have a hard time imagining it on an adult though.
[name]Jack[/name] - it’s ok
[name]James[/name] - I know so many adults with this name, it has lost it’s appeal for me.
[name]Liam[/name] - so popular right now, probably going to get even more popular.
[name]Malcolm[/name] - I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Malcolm[/name]!! Probably my favourite on your list - although I haven’t scanned the rest yet. Nerdy, yet cool. [name]Just[/name] love it!
[name]Nathaniel[/name] - Was on my boy list for my first child - I lost interest in it but still think it’s a solid name - and I love [name]Nate[/name] as a nickname!
[name]Oskar[/name] (I prefer [name]Oscar[/name] but DH refuses to let the “k” go) - Cool name - I don’t mind the K actually, gives it a bit of an edge.
[name]Phineas[/name] (Not sure about this one. Most of my family thinks it’s “too out there”) - I like [name]Phineas[/name], I can see how people may think it’s too out there but it’s not bad. I prefer other names that have the same beginning sound - especially [name]Finnegan[/name]!
[name]Sawyer[/name] - I like it enough, but it seems very trendy to me.
[name]Seth[/name] - I like it, but sometimes I get irritated when I hear myself pronouncing it (when I say it over and over). I’m probably not making sense
[name]Victor[/name] - not a fan, not sure why not.
[name]Vincent[/name] (Not sure of this one either, since I’m not a fan of [name]Vince[/name]) - I actually think [name]Vince[/name] is cute, but I wouldn’t consider it if I didn’t like [name]Vince[/name].
[name]Walter[/name] (The idea of [name]Wally[/name] terrifies me, so this one is iffy as well. I really, really love [name]Walter[/name] though) - Yes, [name]Walter[/name] is pretty cool. Not sure why I like [name]Walter[/name] but not [name]Arthur[/name]. They seem to be of similar style to me. I don’t like [name]Wally[/name] either (horrible nickname) but I like [name]Walt[/name].
[name]Westley[/name] (It’s pretty much just because of The [name]Princess[/name] [name]Bride[/name] that I love this name, but I do love it. Is that a horrible reason?) Nope, I don’t think that’s a horrible reason. I prefer [name]Wesley[/name].
[name]William[/name] (I don’t like [name]Will[/name] or [name]Bill[/name] or [name]Billy[/name] or anything else. I just like [name]William[/name], so I probably have to drop this one too, right?) - Too popular, and bound to go even higher I think. I also like [name]William[/name] as a full name, do not like the nicknames, especially [name]Bill[/name] and [name]Billy[/name])
[name]Wyatt[/name] - I really like [name]Wyatt[/name] - country cool guy feel for me. Would be so cute on a little boy!!

Good luck - lots of great ones to choose from!

I want to thank everyone for the opinions! With the help of my husband, we managed to shorten the list to 11. We didn’t want repeat first initials, so we tried to pick only one. The reason we’re stuck at 11 is because we couldn’t choose between two of our “c” names.

He also added an old favorite of his back to the list. I vetoed it about a month ago, but apparently only his vetoes have lasting power. I wasn’t aware of this.

Our top 11:
[name]Calvin[/name]
[name]Charles[/name]
[name]Eldridge[/name] (A family name for DH, and one he has pretty set in stone)
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]George[/name] (The only one I really fought for. Lately it’s my favorite)
[name]James[/name]
[name]Liam[/name] ([name]One[/name] of DH’s favorites. Its popularity bugs me a bit, but I’m allowing it on the top 10)
[name]Nathaniel[/name] (Another family name for DH. I actually quite like this one, though)
[name]Oskar[/name]
[name]Roland[/name] (Yet another family name for DH. The one I vetoed early on but keeps making its way onto the list)
[name]Victor[/name]

I think you have a core of very traditional names ([name]Charles[/name], [name]George[/name], [name]Harry[/name], [name]James[/name], etc) and then another list of more uncommon, slightly more modern names ([name]Felix[/name], [name]Calvin[/name], [name]Oskar[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Wyatt[/name]), so I think you’ll come to a point where you’ll need to decide which feel you really want to go with.

This would be my top 10 for you:
[name]Eldridge[/name] - if it’s solid then it’s solid, not my favorite but it would make a great mn
[name]Arthur[/name] - I really like this one
[name]Calvin[/name] - love
[name]Ethan[/name] - I like it
[name]Felix[/name] - love this name!
[name]Harris[/name] - I prefer [name]Harris[/name] to [name]Harrison[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] - I like it, very nice
[name]Oskar[/name] - I like it. it’s unique and fun
[name]Seth[/name] - lovely
[name]William[/name]/[name]Liam[/name] - If you hate all the nn’s I’d say drop it, but since you like [name]Liam[/name] I do think it’s still an option. [name]Liam[/name] is lovely!

These I like, but for various reasons I would leave them off:
[name]Phineas[/name] - I actually really love this one, but if everyone else hates it then you’d have to adore it in order to fight for it
[name]Nathaniel[/name] - I like this one, but not as much as some of your others. [name]Thane[/name] is a favorite though
[name]Westley[/name] - I really like [name]Wes[/name], but I’m not sure I love it as much as your others
[name]James[/name] - this is very plain compared to your other options, it’s a lovely classic name but I don’t know
[name]Jack[/name] - I like this but it’s very popular and not really that interesting
[name]Frederick[/name] - I like it but I don’t love it
[name]Charles[/name] - same as above, like but don’t love.
[name]Wyatt[/name] - okay, but not fantastic
[name]Edgar[/name] - nice name, I wouldn’t personally use it, but it’s nice

Eliminate:
[name]Cary[/name] - yea, it’s not my favorite for a boy. If you like it I’d use something like [name]Carson[/name] with [name]Cary[/name] as a nn.
[name]Christopher[/name] - though I like it, there are so many other lovely names out there and I’ve known so many [name]Christopher[/name]'s that it bores me
[name]Errol[/name] - I immediately think of the actor and the Weasley’s owl  and it looks a bit like error
[name]Harrison[/name]- I prefer [name]Harris[/name] to [name]Harrison[/name]
[name]Harry[/name] - though I like it, I’d never use it cause I can’t get past “hairy”
[name]Harvey[/name] - meh, I don’t hate it but it’s really not my style, it’s too heavy
[name]Walter[/name] - I’m not fond of [name]Wally[/name] and I immediately think of 80 year old men when I hear the name, it’s not terrible but not really my thing
[name]Malcolm[/name] - I don’t like names that begin with ‘mal’. It just seems so negative
[name]Franklin[/name] - I prefer [name]Frederick[/name], and they have similar feel to me so I’d ditch this one
[name]Dominic[/name] - I hear “dominate”
[name]Vincent[/name] - I’m not a fan of [name]Vince[/name] either and it sounds very “Godfather” to me
[name]Victor[/name] - I don’t hate this one, but it’s another that has a very Italian mafia feel to me for whatever reason
[name]George[/name] - I understand why people like it, but it feels very bland to me
[name]Sawyer[/name] - this one feels much trendier than any of your others, and it doesn’t have any nice nn’s

[name]Arthur[/name] - A bit too clunky [name]IMO[/name].
[name]Calvin[/name] - I love the nickname [name]Cal[/name]. This could be a cute nickname.
[name]Cary[/name] - Too girly [name]IMO[/name].
[name]Charles[/name] - I love [name]Charles[/name] - it’s classic, sophisticated but not stuffy. [name]Charlie[/name] is an adorable nickname.
[name]Christopher[/name] - A bit too dated if yoou ask me, unless you love it, I wouldn’t use it.
[name]Dominic[/name] - A bit boring to me
[name]Edgar[/name] - I would go with [name]Edward[/name] or [name]Edmund[/name] instead
[name]Eldridge[/name] - It would be a great middle name!
[name]Errol[/name] - I don’t know exactly how to ponounce this, it might have some trouble in certain countries.
[name]Ethan[/name] - A bit too popular for my taste
[name]Felix[/name] - I love this name, I like the -x ending. It’s cool.
[name]Franklin[/name] - I would go with [name]Frederick[/name] instead. [name]Franklin[/name] seems too clunky
[name]Frederick[/name] - I like this, it would be a good middle name.
[name]George[/name] - I like this but I think you might have a hard time finding middle names for it.
[name]Harris[/name] - I like [name]Harrison[/name] a lot better. [name]Harry[/name] is an adorable nickname.
[name]Harrison[/name] - I love this, I like [name]Harry[/name] a lot. I like surname names. Good choice!
[name]Harry[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] it, I just worry about teasing
[name]Harvey[/name] - This seems like more of a dogs name.
[name]Hugo[/name] - I don’t really like -o ending names.
[name]Jack[/name] - Classic, can’t go wrong with [name]Jack[/name]!!
[name]James[/name] - Another classic. It doesn’t matter how popular it gets, it will always be an amazing name.
[name]Liam[/name] - I like this, it’s a cute Irish name. It’s a shame it’s so popular. If you’re Irish, I would use this.
[name]Malcolm[/name] - I feel like this name almost sounds evil. Haha.
[name]Nathaniel[/name] - I love biblical names - especially this one. [name]Nathan[/name] is cute too.
[name]Oskar[/name] - Can’t get past the ‘k’. I don’t like it.
[name]Phineas[/name] - I agree with your family - it’s too out there.
[name]Sawyer[/name] - I don’t really like unisex names and I see this as more feminine.
[name]Seth[/name] - Whenever I hear [name]Seth[/name] I hear meth.
[name]Victor[/name] - A bit dated [name]IMO[/name]
[name]Vincent[/name] - If you aren’t a fan of [name]Vince[/name], don’t use it. I guarantee it will get shortened to [name]Vince[/name].
[name]Walter[/name] - I know a [name]Walter[/name] and he goes by [name]Walter[/name]. I wouldn’t worry about it.
[name]Westley[/name] - I don’t like [name]Westley[/name] but I love [name]Wesley[/name]. Have you considered it?
[name]William[/name] - I would drop it, it would probably get shortened to [name]Will[/name].
[name]Wyatt[/name] - A cool western name, I like it.

My top 10 are:
[name]Calvin[/name]
[name]Charles[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Harrison[/name]
[name]Harry[/name]
[name]Jack[/name]
[name]James[/name]
[name]Liam[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Wyatt[/name]

My least favorite are:
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Cary[/name]
[name]Edgar[/name]
[name]Errol[/name]
[name]Franklin[/name]
[name]Harvey[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name]
[name]Malcolm[/name]
[name]Oskar[/name]
[name]Phineas[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name]
[name]Victor[/name]
[name]Vincent[/name]

I was just going to comment on all the names, but then I went back and read your response. We have pretty much the opposite taste in names, you eliminated all my favourites! But that’s fine. Of your top elleven I like [name]Charles[/name], [name]Roland[/name] and [name]Victor[/name] the most.

Of your favorites I like:

[name]Victor[/name]
[name]Roland[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Oskar[/name]

With [name]Eldridge[/name] as the mn, since it’s “set in stone.”
