Need an international (Polish/USA) name for a little girl who loves to kick!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m], everyone! I’m expecting my first baby, and when my husband and I found out it was a girl, we thought, “Great! [name_f]Girl[/name_f] names are so easy!” Joke was on us! We are still on the hunt for the right girl name. I’m American, and my husband is Polish.

Here is a list of names we really like, but none of them seem to “click.”

  • [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] (not very international and his parents can’t really pronounce it)
  • [name_f]Fia[/name_f] (probably our favorite, but we would like this as a nickname for something that isn’t Sofia)
  • [name_f]Gloria[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] (husband says this is the name of a fruit in Poland and doesn’t like this one)
  • [name_f]Serafina[/name_f]

That’s about it. [name_m]Can[/name_m] anyone think of something “along these lines?” I notice that I like really feminine names that are kind of old/classic, and I think I’d prefer a name that is a little more on the rare side. Thanks in advance! <3

I love [name_f]Fia[/name_f]! It could be a nickname for [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] or [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (maybe spelled a Polish way).

Serafina is my favourite for you, and you could even use Fia as a nickname! Fia could also be short for Ofelia / Ophelia, Felicity, Fiona, Frida, Phoebe or Philippa.

Some names that you may like that should be easy to pronounce in Polish (+ a few that are slightly trickier but not too hard):
Amalia
Anais
Arabella
Colette
Karolina
Delphine
Estelle
Estella
Esme
Ida
Eliza
Elodie
Helena
Isadora
Leonora / Lenora
Lillia
Louisa
Magnolia
Martha
Matilda
Maxine
Olympia
Rosalind
Romilly
Susannah
Sylvie
Thalia
Vera
Zephirine

Agree with @danilib [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] nicknamed [name_f]Fia[/name_f] would be lovely! [name_f]Serafina[/name_f] “Fia” definitely works too if that would help get your husband on board.

[name_f]Marcelina[/name_f] or [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] also sprang to mind. Both pretty, feminine and relatively popular in Poland at the moment.

Others to get to Fia…

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Fenella[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]

Others you might like…

[name_f]Saskia[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]

I’m afraid that I don’t have many ideas for you off the top of my head, and I have to rest now, but I’ll try to come back later with more suggestions. [name_f]My[/name_f] first instinct is to suggest [name_f]Kasia[/name_f], a diminutive of the Polish form of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], or [name_f]Zosia[/name_f], a diminutive of the Polish form of [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. :slightly_smiling_face: From your list, [name_f]Fia[/name_f] is my personal favorite, with a longer form possibly being [name_f]Zofia[/name_f] (which [name_f]Zosia[/name_f] is a nickname for), or the previous poster’s suggestion of [name_f]Ofelia[/name_f]. Best of luck finding a name for your baby !

I love [name_f]Fia[/name_f]! Was just telling my friend the other day, [name_f]Fia[/name_f] would make a great nn for [name_f]Serafina[/name_f]!

Are you looking for Polish names, or names that would work in Polish? Polish names are delightful, but can be hard to find something that works in [name_u]America[/name_u] as well. [name_f]Hania[/name_f], [name_f]Halina[/name_f], [name_f]Adela[/name_f], [name_f]Antonina[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Estera[/name_f], [name_f]Eleonora[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Irena[/name_f], [name_f]Lidia[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f], [name_f]Malina[/name_f], [name_f]Michalina[/name_f], [name_f]Mira[/name_f], [name_f]Sabina[/name_f], [name_f]Sybilla[/name_f], [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f], [name_f]Zuzanna[/name_f], etc., might be nice, and some are really lovely and distinctive (I love [name_f]Hania[/name_f], [name_f]Estera[/name_f], and [name_f]Michalina[/name_f] especially!).

[name_u]Or[/name_u] I wonder if some more international forms of the ones with more complex spellings would be appropriate? Like [name_f]Eva[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Ewa[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Cecylia[/name_f], etc., or even [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Ariadna[/name_f]. I’m afraid I’m not familiar with what would be CURRENTLY stylish in Poland, but they do have a lot of really lovely names!

Other ways to [name_f]Fia[/name_f]:

Fiammetta/Fiamma
Fiala
Felicia/Felicitas/Felicity/Felicyta
Fiorella/Fiorenza/Fioralba
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] (as a stretch?)
[name_f]Josefina[/name_f]
Fiana
[name_u]Fifer[/name_u]
Filippa/Filipina/Philippa
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]

Names that feel like [name_f]Fia[/name_f], [name_f]Serafina[/name_f], [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Gloria[/name_f], and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]:

[name_f]Susanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Viola[/name_f]
[name_f]Mireille[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
Beatrice/Beatrix
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Celestina[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_u]Maria[/name_u]
[name_f]Michaela[/name_f]
[name_f]Hanna[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]

Good luck!

[name_f]Serafina[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Fia[/name_f] would be cute! [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] could also take the nickname [name_f]Fia[/name_f] but I think [name_f]Serafina[/name_f] has a little more sass and personality / stands out more and would set the child apart.

I really love Antosia for a Polish/US name!

[name_f]Serafina[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Fia[/name_f] seems perfect for you guys. I know a girl who is Polish and living in the UK called [name_f]Sara[/name_f] (pronounced sar- to rhyme with car, not care). I think this fits the bill, it isn’t heard of much anymore.
