Need fun name for a Brazilian-American baby girl!

Hello [name]Berry[/name] Ladies,

I’ve been on this site so much lately that i even came up with “[name]Berry[/name]” for a middle name! The worst part is I didn’t even realize the connection until husband pointed it out!

I need some help, please. I’m due in two weeks (!) and we’ll be having a baby girl. I’m Brazilian and my husband is American so her name needs to work both in Portuguese and in English. Also, she’ll have two last names since in [name]Brazil[/name], the kids always take the mom’s last name followed by the dad’s last name as well. So her two last names will be Cardoso [name]Loew[/name]. And the hubby wants to honor his lovely grandma by using [name]Evelyn[/name] as a MN. But that’s not set in stone necessarily. Would love your help finding a fun, lively, spunky name FN.

From the beginning, we thought [name]Beatriz[/name] would be it - we met a little girl nicknamed “Bia” in [name]Brazil[/name] and we both fell in love with her and thought that [name]Beatriz[/name] would be the name. The only issue is that “Bia [name]Loew[/name]” sounds a bit choppy and slightly like a bad word in Portuguese and my husband was also a little worried about the idea of some calling/teasing her “B-loew”. Soooo, after all that, we came up with a few alternatives, such as:

  • [name]Maya[/name] (we considered [name]Maya[/name] [name]Beatriz[/name] or we also like [name]Maya[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name])
  • [name]Gabriela[/name]
  • [name]Adriana[/name]
  • [name]Sofia[/name] (maybe a bit too popular with all the Sophies, etc)
  • [name]Luiza[/name]

We also like [name]Isabela[/name] and [name]Isadora[/name] but the first is way too popular and the latter, well…being that i’m somewhat dark, I’m afraid some people may tease and call her [name]Dora[/name] (the explorer)…I also like all the [name]Lila[/name], Lillys, [name]Liv[/name], but being that his name ends with L, I don’t think they sound great together…

I’m just getting a bit overwhelmed with combining 4 names together and making it sound nice and adequate (without knowing her yet).

Any lovely ideas for us?

Thanks in advance!!!

I think [name]Luiza[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] sounds fantastic. That’s my vote.

From your list, I like [name]Maya[/name] Cardoso [name]Loew[/name]. [name]Maya[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] sounds pretty if you don’t mind the double y’s. I think [name]Beatriz[/name] is lovely even if the short form is a bad word. [name]How[/name] about the nn’s of [name]Beata[/name], [name]Trixie[/name] or [name]Trish[/name]? Instead of the mega popular [name]Sofia[/name] and [name]Isabella[/name], you could use [name]Sonia[/name] or [name]Mirabel[/name]. Other suggestions for a fun, lively, spunky name: [name]Natalia[/name], [name]Liliana[/name], [name]Paloma[/name], [name]Violeta[/name], [name]Elodia[/name], [name]Estela[/name], [name]Frida[/name], [name]Noemi[/name], [name]Julieta[/name], [name]Silvia[/name], [name]Rafaela[/name], [name]Aurelia[/name], [name]Adela[/name], [name]Simona[/name], [name]Yolanda[/name], [name]Gisela[/name], [name]Greta[/name], [name]Valeria[/name], [name]Amalia[/name], [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Fernanda[/name], [name]Francisca[/name], [name]Eva[/name], [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Diana[/name], [name]Sabrina[/name], [name]Melania[/name], [name]Susana[/name], [name]Rosalia[/name], [name]Valentina[/name] and [name]Zita[/name]. All the best!

From your list I like [name]Luiza[/name] and the trendy nn for girls of [name]Lou[/name]. [name]Luiza[/name]/[name]Louisa[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] is really nice. I would tend to go for the English version if you are going to live in an English speaking country.

I am sure that you will meet a lot of [name]Gabriella[/name]'s in South [name]America[/name]; but it is a gorgeous classic. I love it.

Firstly I know a girl born in [name]Brazil[/name] named [name]Sara[/name] with the ‘ah’ sound not the ‘air’ sound but the problem is that I think in the U.S. you may get the ‘air’ sound.

I think [name]Lucia[/name] would be pretty; not sure if there is a Portuguese equivalent that would suit more.

If you had named her [name]Beatriz[/name] even if you went with the [name]Bee[/name] nn it may sound like below with your surname, not sure of how you say your surname though.

I don’t think [name]Maya[/name] has the oomph that all your other suggestions have.

rollo

I [name]LOVE[/name] your name list!

My favorite is [name]Gabriella[/name]/[name]Gabriela[/name]

Next up would be [name]Sofia[/name] but I also really like the name [name]Maya[/name] and also [name]Mia[/name] (even though that one isn’t on your list)

I really like [name]Luiza[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name], and I adore the nn [name]Lulu[/name] (although [name]Lulu[/name] [name]Loew[/name] is a little weird).

I love the name [name]Adriana[/name]- so cute and modern, plus it’s Shakesperean. [name]Adriana[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] is a bit of a mouthful. [name]Adriana[/name] [name]Beatriz[/name] is a bit better.

[name]Maya[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] is gorgeous and unique. I also like these names, not necessarily with [name]Evelyn[/name] as a middle… [name]Angela[/name], [name]Carla[/name], [name]Catalina[/name], [name]Fernanda[/name], [name]Helena[/name], [name]Joana[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name], [name]Paula[/name], [name]Rosa[/name], [name]Sandra[/name], [name]Senna[/name], [name]Sonia[/name] and [name]Vanessa[/name].

Thanks, everyone!!
I think the husband still likes [name]Beatriz[/name] and [name]Maya[/name] best and it’ll be hard to convince him on [name]Luiza[/name], even though I really like it.

[name]Rollo[/name], I also love the “Brazilian” [name]Sara[/name], but you’re right, I think they’d just call her [name]Sarah[/name] (air sound) here :frowning: Also, [name]Sara[/name] [name]Loew[/name] reminds me a bit of [name]Sara[/name] [name]Lee[/name]

[name]Mischa[/name], I really many of your name suggestions. I actually really like [name]Estela[/name], [name]Frida[/name] and [name]Gisela[/name]. I love [name]Frida[/name] but I don’t have enough guts to name her that…I think I’d just think of the artist a lot.

We may end up with [name]Beatriz[/name] given that we both really like it…I just don’t think [name]Beatriz[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] sounds that great…what do you think? Any good middle name suggestions for [name]Beatriz[/name]??

Thanks again!
