It’s still very early in my pregnancy, but I’m passing the time revisiting our girl name list (we already have a boy name picked out). We have a son named [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] and would love something solid and classic for baby #2. Popularity isn’t a big issue for us, as long as, we don’t already have someone with the same name in our family or group of friends.
Some names we are looking at are: [name_f]Juliana[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]), [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] (we have a spelling issue with this one) and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. Any other suggestions? We’ve been TTC for over 2 years, talking about names the entire time, so I admit at this point I’ve lost a lot of steam in searching for something new and fresh.
Funny, my first thought was [name_f]Elena[/name_f] (or [name_f]Elaina[/name_f]… what are your spelling issues? Can you not use [name_f]Elena[/name_f]?). I’d suggest…
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] / [name_f]Elena[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] are my favourite from your list. However (and this might just be me and my obsessive mind) if you name 2 kids with the same first letter, I feel like if you have a third, they almost need to have the same letter so that they’re not “left out”. This obviously isn’t an issue if this is your last child. And probably isn’t an issue at all and I’m just over thinking it because a friend and I talked about this last night
The issue we have with [name_f]Elaina[/name_f]/[name_f]Elena[/name_f] involves the perceived pronunciation of [name_f]Elena[/name_f]. I thought it was the traditional spelling of [name_f]Elaina[/name_f], same pronunciation (ee-lay-nah), and I’m a traditional spelling kind of lady. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband thinks [name_f]Elena[/name_f] would be “ellen-ah”. I was also worried the [name_f]Elena[/name_f] spelling would generally confuse people and the girl would spend the rest of her life correcting everyone. I really love the “ee-lay-nah” pronunciation, but thought the non-traditional spelling might look made-up. That’s my only hang-up on the name.
We weren’t originally looking for another E name, but seem drawn to them! We’ve been TTC for over 2 years, and I’m 37, so we don’t expect to have any more children. We’d like to stop at two anyway, so I don’t think we’d have to worry about another E baby
We both do like [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]/[name_f]Liliana[/name_f]/[name_f]Lily[/name_f]. I also really love [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] but can’t use them for various reasons as a first name.
I like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_m]Ethan[/name_m], though if you plan on having any more children, it sort of compels you to choose another E name to fit in with your trend.
I like these w/[name_m]Ethan[/name_m]
[name_f]Alannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Arielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Lourdes[/name_f]
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassia[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f]
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]-[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
And from your options, [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] & [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] are gorgeous!
We do really love [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], but there’s one in my son’s class and I know her mother fairly well so it might be odd to use since it’s not super common. It’s a top choice for a middle name, though. One of our favorite combos is [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f].
Fanciful, [name_f]Elena[/name_f]/ [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] is such a pretty name! hopefully, you’ll be braver than us and be able to use it
As of right now, my husband’s top pick is [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and mine is [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] coming in a close third. I don’t know how we’ll decide. With the boy name it was so obvious for us. I do know someone with a [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], but I’ve loved the name for a long time and since it’s common I don’t think it would be as odd to use it. I just have to figure out if any potential awkwardness would outweigh using the name. Lots to think about!
