Need Help- baby girl-- Madison?

My husband and I really like the name [name]Madison[/name] because his name is [name]Matt[/name] so it is like naming the girl after him…BUT my best friend named her daughter [name]Addison[/name] (8mo). We live over 1 hour apart but I dont want to be a copy-cat. Is this a copy or not? and if so, any suggestions on names similar to [name]Matthew[/name] for a girl??

You could choose the Spanish Matea or the Italian Mattea (mah-TAY-ah) for your daughter to honor a Matthew. I would also recommend the similar Matilda.

[name]Madison[/name] has gone rapidly from interesting to overused to REALLY really overused. You may want to consider the name’s popularity and lack of staying power in your decision (unlike [name]Abigail[/name] or [name]Olivia[/name] or [name]Emily[/name], [name]Madison[/name] is both popular and a “new” name for girls and may start sounding dated quickly, like [name]Tiffany[/name] does now).

If you’d like to honor your husband’s name, you may want to consider [name]Madeline[/name] instead of [name]Madison[/name]. It’s also very popular, but more traditional and will wear better than [name]Madison[/name]. The nickname [name]Maddie[/name] is, of course, still an option. [name]Matilda[/name] is also becoming more popular, and you can use [name]Mattie[/name] as a nickname, or maybe use [name]Mattie[/name] as a nickname for [name]Margaret[/name].

I wouldn’t worry about [name]Madison[/name] and [name]Addison[/name]. They’re both such popular names that the girls will surely run into other people with the same names, and I don’t think you can be branded a copy-cat when both names are so common. If you’re really feeling uncomfortable about it, maybe run it by your best friend and see how she feels.

I don’t particularly care for [name]Madison[/name] anyway; I think it’s going to feel dated not long from now. [name]Even[/name] if there’s an hour’s distance between you, if she’s your BF, I would do it. What about:

[name]Matilda[/name] (love! and [name]Mattie[/name] or [name]Tilly[/name] is cute)
[name]Mathia[/name]
[name]Mata[/name]
[name]Matea[/name]
[name]Amada[/name]
[name]Madeira[/name]

I like [name]Madeline[/name] better, too. Best of luck!

I agree that [name]Madison[/name] is [name]WAY[/name] overused. Im really over that name. I think there are other really cute names like [name]Matilda[/name] or [name]Madeline[/name]/[name]Madelyn[/name].

I don’t think that [name]Addison[/name] and [name]Madison[/name] should be a problem. If you were considering naming sisters this, then yeah, they’d be too close but in your situation it should be just fine.

[name]Madison[/name] is absolutely not a copy-cat of your friends daughter, [name]Addison[/name]!
[name]Madison[/name] is for your husband [name]Matthew[/name].
Although, I do prefer [name]Maddison[/name] with two d’s and you can nn your daughter [name]Maddi[/name] . . . if you wish!

I think [name]Matilda[/name] would be lovely to use instead of the overly trendy and popular [name]Madison[/name].

What about [name]Maddox[/name]? I think this would be cute for a girl.

I like [name]Madison[/name] too though.I would just mention it to your friend and see what her reaction is. If you both have daughters that will be friends I think they would like the rhyming names!

I saw the Name
Matilyn like [name]Madeline[/name]
Mattilyn/Matilin/Mattilin…

Not a fan of last names as first names and the only [name]Madison[/name] I know is a dog.

I think [name]Matilda[/name] is quite lovely and would relate better the your husband’s name anyway.
