Where I’ve run into a little problem is deciding how to say Malie!!!
Malie is hawaiian for calm, when describing seas It LOOKS perfect but there are quite a few options for pronouncing.
[name_f]MAY[/name_f]-[name_u]LEE[/name_u] (these two words pronounced together smoothly…
MAH-[name_u]LEE[/name_u] (rhymes kinda with [name_f]Molly[/name_f]- but the o sounds more like an a with a long ee at the end)
MAH-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-A (the A sound is the same as saying your ABC’s- not the same sound at the end of [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f])
[name_f]MALLIE[/name_f] (rhymes with [name_f]Callie[/name_f])
MAH-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-[name_m]AH[/name_m] (has the same ending sound that [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] does… so not really an option but one of the legitimate hawaiian pronunciations).
**I know it sounds silly to decide on a MN before the pronunciation, but it looks perfect and I know I won’t find anything I adore more. However, hubs and I had a different idea of how to say it. He likes the (callie) Malie one…but I think that sounds a bit nicknamey…but i’m not against it. He’s given me 100% free reign on deciding He loves [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and thinks the entire name is beautiful- he’s just done going back and forth with names
I have a hard time with four letter names, I don’t like the look of them
Some of my favorite names are four letters, but I won’t use them. I like four letter nicknames best, but I feel like that’s just what they are, nicknames.
[name_u]Eden[/name_u], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. I have a [name_m]Mike[/name_m] & [name_f]Emme[/name_f]. If it’s a boy his name will be [name_m]Walden[/name_m], nn [name_u]Wade[/name_u].
Most of all, I just like the look of [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] Malie. but the ending -ee sound sounds best.
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] MAH-[name_u]LEE[/name_u] because it gives a little bit of the Hawaiian sound, while still flowing nicely with [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].
I like MAH-[name_u]LEE[/name_u] best, but I did see [name_f]MALLIE[/name_f] first (never saw the other options of pronunciation until you wrote them out).
Mah-lee seems to be the most obvious way to pronounce it (in English - some Romance languages would get you Mah-lee-eh)
([name_f]Mallie[/name_f] - would be spelled that way.)
([name_f]May[/name_f]-lee would be spelled Maylie or Mayley - like [name_f]Hayley[/name_f])
I only read it as [name_f]Mallie[/name_f] (ie rhymes with [name_f]Callie[/name_f]). Without the e at the end, I woukd have read it as [name_f]Mali[/name_f] (the cityname, like [name_f]Molly[/name_f])
