I’m expecting a girl in [name_u]August[/name_u] and keep coming back to the name [name_f]Ondine[/name_f]. It’s so sweet and lovely and underused and I’m obsessed with the meaning, but I’m not sure how most people would pronounce it? I’ve been saying it in my head like the word “On” and “[name_u]Deen[/name_u]” as in [name_f]Paula[/name_f] [name_u]Deen[/name_u]. Or is it “On” and “[name_f]Dine[/name_f]” as in a dining room table?
Also, can anyone think of nicknames besides Dini and [name_f]Onnie[/name_f], which I don’t like?

I always pronounce it On-[name_u]Deen[/name_u].
I also pronounce it on-deen, it’s one of my favourites as well!
I would probably use [name_f]Dina[/name_f] if I wanted a nickname, but I don’t think she needs one at two syllables.
I would definitely pronounce it on-[name_u]DEEN[/name_u]. The only other pronunciation I’d consider is on-DIN wondering if it is supposed to have a [name_m]French[/name_m] pronuncation, as I’m not familiar with the name. on-[name_f]DINE[/name_f] seems wrong.
I like that it is unique.
[name_f]Ondine[/name_f] is definitely “on-[name_u]DEEN[/name_u]”; that would be the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation as well.
I like it - it’s very sleek and elegant. Maybe [name_f]Didi[/name_f] as a nickname?
On-deen for sure! That is the correct [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation

I looove Ondine/ Ondina 
I fell in love with it because of the movie ‘Ondine’ (2009) and there this name was pronounced as On-deen
